Wow, I didn't know the exact points for pop loss. This is sadly really going to help me - i say sadly because it's silly as far as the logic behind the mechanics go, but I learned it so I can't un-learn it now
I am in the same poor state myself. To me, this is total cheese! But once learned...

I don't know why exactly, but I get a huge kick out of [link="http://www.homestarrunner.com/"]this[/link] site. Maybe its all the ancient geek jokes and whatnot. At anyrate, while these may not be my favorites, I always enjoy these two toons. Marshie makes my head spin.
Something that's always bothered me: Why does everyone at the UP have to vote at one time? A set order in which the vote is cast would be cool. And not highest to lowest or vice versa as that would be to easy to manipulate. Maybe the vote can go in the order of which you meet the races, just as long as the player is not first or last.
I believe that is why they all vote at once.
This would work better if you had a list of upgrades you want done to the starbase. Que up a bunch of upgrades and the constructors would go to them and upgrade it.
I think it would be even better if the AI didn't treat them like anomalies. In fact, it might even be better if no one treated anomalies as such. At any case, I like the idea myself.

You could always add a check when a game first starts to see if the 'alignment chosen' and 'xeno ethics researched' flags are set, then bring up the dialog right off. Of course, this would require that such a flag existed.

In this case, I would suggest you stick to the [link="https://www.galciv.wikia.com/"]wiki[/link]. The manual does not get updated as the game features change. Search the forums as well. There are several good guides floating around for different things.

Did everyone disagree with this thought or was it just not worthy of note? I was also thinking that it would be nice if the choice was made to offer an option of smaller thumbnails in 2.0 that the area they are displayed in be resized as well so that such drastic scaling does not occur.

It would also be nice to see the portraits fixed so that they are the correct size for the screens they are used in. That stretching is tacky!
Sounds like all these descriptions are being written from sort of an Encyclopaedia of Galactic History viewpoint, rather than from the view point of the pertinent race. If that is the case, I would suggest some visual clue to make that clear. Perhaps as starting cite reference at the top of the description, something like: "From the Encyclopaedia Glactana, 2355 Universal Ed.: Hyper Fusion Reactors Hyper Fusion Reactors were the keystone of

I believe that it has been changed so that the first ship built on a taken world is always built right away. It will always say 0 turns. I always bring a second fleet to leave ships behind on taken worlds, so I set the planets to nothing until I research the best stuff, then build a massive fleet of super heavy battlecruisers all at once. Cheese, but fun cheese.

I've not had too many problems with save failures. In this case, I thought it odd that I had not reached the 2GB mark. I monitor memory usage in real time as well as temps and what not. I have run this game for far longer than 3 days without a crash. I don't really mind reloading my game after such an event since they made it load so much faster (or is that just the opteron?) and decreased the frequency of the crashes. Many titles on the market now don't react well to long sessions.

You could add enough jewelry to your ships to make them much larger in size. That is waht I generally do. I agree that the difference is still lacking the epic feel it needs though.

Have you tried removing the game and installing it fresh with updates? It certainly can't hurt. Also, are you still getting that yellow warning you described in the original post?
Well it's not a bug. Nor is it something that's an accident. So i don't know if fix is the right word.
The original game release did use that size of images for the trade screens if memory serves. When they updated the size later, some portraits didn't make the cut I guess. At any rate, stretching textures of that sort is generally considered a big don't. I would certainly hope that it is not intentional.

Thats Silent Hunter III (with GWX). Thought I better clear that up before the flamers get on it. Can't seem to edit posts today either. What's really fun is running SH3 and GC2 at the same time. Now that is a test of computer performance!
If you try to get money from a cash poor civ during trading, you get pop-ups after the trade window is closed that claims that the player doesn't have enough money for the trade. So, two issues: the pop-up doesn't show up where you can see it while your are trading, and the information on the pop-up is backwards.
I also confirm this. Didn't report it as was thinking I should start a game in 1.7b4 to confirm first.

While I appreciate the flames, I feel I should point out that I did not indicate a lack of saving, only that the last one failed. Also, my system was only using 1.4 GB of memory at the time. I had plenty left, even within the 2GB barrier that does not exist on my system. I had indeed saved previously (not to mention the autosave, which I have set to every other turn). The comment as to more problems was in reference to the many bugs posted in the beta reports fourms. Most were minor

Running 1.7b4 and just encountered an 'Out of memory!' error on save. Game has been running coninuously for over 72 hours. I seem to be having more problems than everyone else. Perhaps my install is bad? I installed clean after a system rebuild. Will email the debug.err

I have been playing a game in DA and have just about resolved the galaxy to peace except for the once mighty Talxerxians and Thorians. They are now quite broken and begging for peace. I'm content to crush them anyway for being so bold as to attack me. This last turn proved to have some interesting results: <img src="http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/7816/wardj5.th.jpg" border="0" alt="Free Im
