Anybody else have this? I've played a lot of games... last night, for the first time, I started to get serious slowdowns. These were in conjunction with an intermittent disappearance of most of the border UI: armies, cities, unit details, resources. The only part that stuck around was the minimap and turn/spellbook buttons in the bottom right. I tried lots of things to make the UI reappear. End turn sometimes worked, and after a while, didn't any more.

Lots of great ideas here, especially re: limiting city spam. Citylevelup bonuses with "cajones" really convince me to focus on growing a few large cities! The one-per-city growth and other buildings make it attractive to spam, plus you get the value of more build queues for units. My thought: could each city (beyond the capital) cost some maintenance? In GalCiv2, new colonies always had a negative cash flow for a while, and that made me think twice before overextending myself.

My notes from playing 2.5 hours last night (between getting three kids to bed, regular clean-up, and having to sleep before work today, that's all I could manage... still stayed up later than I should have): My biggest pet peeve (held over from WoM): sometimes notification messages appear in a very jumbled order, with some events (champ level-up, city level-up, completed research, etc.) taking odd precedence over othe

Gotta re-read Game of Thrones now... though I have plenty of time before the DVD release, I'm sure. In the meantime, seeing The Wall in that 15-minute preview was an awesome experience.

I have hired a lot of champions... it's my strategy. I think, however, that I may have reduced their price too much. My sov is a bard, several of her children are bards, and now it costs over 4 billion to hire a champion. Whew!

My sovereign's army currently contains one red dragon (and the first time I saw a dragon, I really WAS impressed!), Janus, and a familiar. I've been teleporting them around, and the last time they appeared to stay put, but when I click the sovereign's picture the map recenters where I teleported them, and I can "move" them, recruit adventurers, etc. with this disembodied army. The bodies are still at the point from which they originally teleported. Also, I'm regularly crashing again a

I'm glad to hear this, because... A) Who doesn't want to see more Stardock games? B) I'm a Michigander, and we COULD use more jobs. I'd consider applying for one of those new positions if my lab at MSU wasn't already getting a $550-million expansion: http://www.scienceandjobsformichigan.com/

I haven't played it myself, but the guys from Maximum PC have. In their article about the hyper-advanced planetarium now open in San Fran, this is how they described the control interface: "Finally, we were allowed to enter the main control room behind the planetarium seating to check out how the real-time navigation works. Surprisingly, the controls for the Uniview program worked much like navigating through a game of Sins of the Solar Empire!" Full article link below..

OK, now I have to look into this. I've played the original King's Bounty and every Heroes game, and was fairly pleased with HOMM 5 (short description: a pretty HOMM 3), and you say this is prettier? Of course, Hero development and tactical combat are what make the game great, so I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip, Annatar11!

I'm also suffering the "string not found" problem. I also did a full reinstall (from Impulse, since SDC was giving me the endless loop problem) on Vista, but with no luck. I'm remembering to delete the My Games Twilight directory every time. Weird...

I also have the String Not Found... in fact, I have a ton of them in the "Game" screen under "Options". Also on the shipyard. That's all I've seen so far. I did a clean install of 1.9 after uninstalling and deleting all the folders I could. I'm running Vista US English. In addition, I started a game with the Altairans, and they started with all kinds of really advanced techs, like Dark Energy. Also, I saw no "lite constructor module" available for the Arceans.
