Any objections if we lower the minimum age to 30 instead of 35?
None from me. Besides, I think arteriosclerosis begins manifesting itself around late 20's now anyway. Today's younger generation will probably age faster compared to us older folks at the same age due to inactive lifestyles, poor food choices and stress. That makes us pretty much the same on the inside... see, we do have something in common! Let the recruiting begin!

Another thing that's been bugging me lately. I read a post a long time ago that stated that if you want to stir things up between races that are getting a little too cozy with one another and one of them is showing negative relations towards you because of your close proximity Influence SB's, then just gift that offending starbase to their cozy neighbour and see if their warm and fuzzy relations take a hit. Now, I've tried this a few times and every time I gift that starbase it
the thing I find most annoying about having tech trading off is that some races won't research the alliance tech, preventing me from getting an alliance with them in spite of close relations.
Yeah, this sucks for sure. In my last game the Thalans were fairly quick to form an alliance with me and with the Drath a little bit later on, but the Torians would not budge no matter what. We four were the last ones standing; the Drath allied with the Thalans and the Thalan

I think I got the gaming bug back in 1989 or thereabouts after purchasing an Amiga500 computer (I still have it btw ;) ). First games played on that were the point and click Sierra adventure games: Space Quest III Manhunter: New York, Manhunter: San Francisco Shortly after that I got hooked on the Koei strategy games like: Nobunaga's Ambition Genghis Khan Romance of the Three Kingdoms Th

Also on another point, be picky who you decide to share economic and research treaties with. If relations show signs of going sour (cool) with a particular race, try improving things by establishing a treaty or two with them (+,++, Our Treaties Together), but sometimes it's better to establish treaties with races that share your alignment or leaning if you want to speed up relations to "friendly"---> "close"---> "alliance". *in my reply #6, I meant to say DA obviously, n
It could just be my imagination, but I think that I've probably lost more games with it off.
Whoops... can't edit! I meant to say that I've lost more games it seems with tech trading on.
I focus on economic, diplomatic, trade, population, and morale techs.
This is pretty much what I attempt to do also. I always try to go for a political (alliance) or cultural victory in my games. Generally speaking, research all the "yellow" techs and go for the "Galactic Showcase" and the "Restaurant of Eternity" as soon as possible, as well as establishing a "Political Capital" and the "Spin Control Center", and develop certain "trade goods", but some of these may n
Just curious are there players older than me ? As I told I'm 58.
More than you would think! Actually, if you were to take all active players over the age of 35, from all current empires and added them to The Gerontocracy, well... I mean that would make us probably one of the largest empires going (next to the Kzinti Empire that is ;)).
Which race is the most fun to play in TotAm, would you say?
Although I haven't started a TotA game yet, from what I've read from various posts, I'm tempted to give the Krynn a try, with their strong boosts to influence and morale; but I think someone said that they lose the SCC and some initial ship speed. Still, they'll probably be my first choice I reckon.

I, like most people, enjoy a little competition. The Metaverse and the AltMeta are two sides of the same coin as far as scoring goes, I believe. I'll be the first to admit that my skills and subsequent scores are nowhere near that of the top players, but that in no way discourages my participation and enjoyment of the game. I'll probably never attain the scores that the top players achieve, but it's nice to see that people can get these monster scores nonetheles

Both DL and DA run fine on my old machine. AMD T-Bird 1.0 GHz, 1250 DDR RAM, ATI Radeon 9550 vid. card. Mind you, I have anti aliasing set to "0", and a few graphics "bells & whistles" turned down, but I can play a large galaxy map with abundant-all with no problems. I recently could only play on medium galaxies with only 512 RAM, but with more RAM now, the game plays well. Invest in more RAM would be my advice. ;)

I purchased Kaspersky A/V this year, and am happy with it. In the past I've pretty much tried them all (Trend, Norton, McAffe...). I think you have to read the reviews almost every year, as they seem to trade top spots in the rankings... what was #1 this year may be #3 the next. Since my computer is older and slower than I would like it to be (kinda like me), I usually go for the one that has the smallest "footprint" or is the least demanding on my system, resou
post here what you've just accomplished or still plan to do.
Well, since my games are few and far between, I think rather than try and spread my talents (cough) amongst 3 empires, I'm going to concentrate my future efforts on one empire for a long enough time to actually make some sort of a difference. Right now everything seems kind of like a scattered, willy-nilly approach. My goal is to go strictly for a specific style of play involving, civ.galactic or civ.so

If this relates to DA, then I experienced the #3 event or something very similar, causing a "good" leaning race to suddenly switch gears and go down the "evil" path. Oddly enough though, after quite some time they never developed anything close to evil as far as I could tell. I guess the A.I. never researched Xeno Ethics or something like that. Their relations didn't change at all towards me so far as I could detect, but like in Dax99's game, it didn't much matter at t
Is there a way to check influance levels by sectors ?
I'm not sure if there is a numerical value given per sector, I could be wrong here, but I can definitely see my borders of influence "grow" as I build star bases along my borders and open space where I have also built them and upgraded by adding more modules. I like seeing my areas of influence encroaching upon my neighbours' ever dwindling empire perimeters.

I haven't yet played any of the betas, but I would think that building "Terror Stars" would scare the bejesus out of the neighbours, resulting in a higher military rating for the builder, translating into more diplomatic clout and deterring others from declaring war on that builder (even if never used for it's ultimate purpose)... kind of like the way having a huge powerful navy works (R.E.S.P.E.C.T., sock it to me, sock it to me...). So... can it be used as a diplomatic weapon/flyswatt

Maybe it's time again for another recruitment drive for the Gerontocracy. ;)
