I think the advice about building embassies and related buildings is very good - I try to build an embassy on every planet (not always possible especially on the smaller worlds, but that's what I shoot for). Rapidly research some military weapons techs and start putting hulls in the vacuum. That will deter the distant and protect you from the near-by. I find that my having Planetary Invasion gives them pause. Or gives me ownership of their planets...

Sorry, I misunderstood. First, once you occupy a planet all of its citizens are yours to do with as you wish, whether they were your invading soldiers or citizens of the previous regime. There is some justification for this - history is full of armies sweeping up all the able bodies behind their lines and either impressing them into the army or adding them to forced-labor gangs. Second, I always keep a large fleet of transports floating at a point

I always put one transport module on a cargo hull and add on all the engines it can carry - that lets them move rapidly to the front. When I load them up I always go for the maximum - I think it's 3 billion. I never load up more than one transport per planet until the population recovers - and I try to load transports in systems that have more than one planet to draw from. Invading with two of these fully-loaded transports may be overkill, but it means I can certainly take the planet and

And it would more than pay for itself in real-estate values alone. On the same subject, I'd be interested in being able to terraform Venus. Perhaps a sort of 'floating algae' to eat up the CO2 would work. It could replicate into vast mats that would help block sunlight from reaching the surface, serving as a solar shield.

The cost would be immense, though just bombing the planet with icy comets would probably work. Given enough incentive, you could set up tankers running from the water-filled moons of Jupiter or Saturn - once you get the chunk of ice moving along the right path, it's pretty much free. Manhattan real-estate is valued at $1000 per foot. Since there are 27,878,400 sq ft in a square mile, that comes to 27,878,400,000 per square mile (which seems low). Just to ballpark it, let

I'd like it if an economic starbase could produce its own construction points in lieu of increasing production and automatically use them for everything except sensors and weapons. You could just toggle the 'improve' on and when it finished it would automatically switch back to providing production bonuses. Military and cultural starbases you would still have to build, and you'd need a constructor module or three to get an economic starbase goi

I would actually be OK with retreating if it could happen after a certain number of combat rounds. Would work better if ships spread out their fire more instead of everyone piling onto a single target. The 'victory or death' mechanic does operate well to limit the 'hunt and chase and hunt and chase' whack-a-mole that could otherwise result, but... a more reasonable combat system that didn't involve everyone piling into a melee in the middle could give outcomes that

The larger your empire becomes, the harder it should be to keep pieces of it from breaking off - or parts of it from waging civil war on you. The Roman Empire is a possible example.

Mmmmmm. I understand your frustration. I usually throw a screaming tantrum - um, make that, I 'express my entirely-justified dis-satisfaction' when I get the event that slows all the ships down. But, really, the AI isn't (yet) smart enough for additional planets to make any difference. Even if you are playing at a high level of difficulty where it is getting a lot of free resources, the planets don't matter. It's just more targets for your space marines... and yo

I see no reason robots should be immune to war weariness. War almost always means economic hardships and perhaps even shortages. What is a poor robot to do if the squeaky wheel can't get any grease?

Before this is implemented I would want an end to the AI declaring war on me on turn 20 when their survey ship transits a wormhole into my side of the galaxy and then 'wages war' on me for the next 300 turns, refusing all peace offers.

Rather than have a weak nation break up, I'd like to see civil war (or secession) more likely as an empire grows in size. If you want to have a Galactic Empire, you have to deal with the Pretenders. Or perhaps suffer penalties in research and/or revenue as sacrifices for increased stability.

Steam Cloud is off. Same pattern - launching game shows graphic issue, verifying cache shows 6 files fail to validate. So I uninstalled the game, deleted all folders, turned off opt-in for 1.4, uninstalled and - voila! The planet icon shows up at right and in the lower left, the background is lighter and the blue color is the familiar 'Terran Blue

I already found it, thanks - Google is very useful :). It said it found 8 files damaged and would reload them. Waited half an hour to see if it did that but didn't see it do anything, rebooted PC and started a new game in GC3 - same issue. Planets in the right-hand window are empty circles, designed ships have no icon. Going to try verifying again - maybe wait overnight.
The black planets isn't normal, but I don't see how your main map is different than normal. The background appears dark because the content is spaced out, but it looks normal. Have you considered checking your control panel for your video card to see if there's anything you can increase? I'd try a few quick starts and see if this happens every time where it's dark. I'd like you to verify your game cache if you have not yet and see if the planet icons com

No - no changes in settings and no change in any page, program or display except the main map in GC3. Having the planetary icons blacked out cannot be normal. The main map is so dark you can barely see stars. Before the background was a sort of gray with stars and gas, now it's nearly black.
