According to your post, with link to a lengthy article, President A. Lincoln is quoted as stating something which he did in fact not say in any historical text. That for me, brings into question the rest of the evidence in the propaganda piece which your link clearly is. http://www.factcheck.org/article415.html

I thought we were discussing socialism and capitalism, but Brad thinks its ok to talk about water for a bit. The price of a liter of bottled water is more then that of gasoline, and though perhaps more pure then tap water. What exactly is in the tap water that puts you off so much besides taste if that is even it? The community I live in has spent millions to procure a very advanced clean and safe water filtration system. Granted thats what they say, and the water comes from a waterway
"And this is why he did it, out of duty and loyalty to his boss. Sad isn't it!" You duty to do the right thing, is not always and readily what your bosses whims are. Especially when what your boss asks you to do is unethical. Covering up misconduct by lying is unethical.
Your going to filter water? Lol. Doesn't your city do that for you? I only need to come here once or twice a week to laugh my ass off.
I'm sorry for breaking all the rules of debating lol. I was asking about whether or not there are countries you can live as a citizen and not pay income taxes. Not really debating it because I don't know. I'm sure there is someplace you can go, that has no income tax. As for the point about your dollars vs mine. Though it may not be fair to compare, it is true if someone takes $500 from me, I'm broke for the week, if someone takes $500 from you are you broke for about an hour.
"The obesity rate amongst the poor is higher than any other segment." Agree. "the moral issue of men with guns (the government) confiscating the property (income) that someone makes" Again, are there no countries on Earth, where this government with guns comes to take your money away? Maybe I don't see an issue with a government, which is really just a rules organization, keeping order or attempting to do so, within the confines of it's jurisdiction. See "Ira
It's not a theft, it's a tax, nor are you enslaved to pay it, you choose to work, and earn the income, therefore you accept the good with the bad, which is that the income is taxed. You can choose to be a bum, and not feel enslaved to make any income or pay any tax, same with choosing to do lots of things. Shower, eat, sleep, each has it's own set of consequences which follow on to any choice you make.
"If my taxes are 35%, then I am literally enslaved to the government for over 4 months just to the federal government." You could choose to not pay taxes, or to make less then your tax bracket, or setup shop in a country that doesn't have an income tax. You were telling us that because of your affluence you are able to decide to do things, that the rest of us fat losers, I mean people can't, so have you looked into flying to another nation and becoming a citizen in perhaps the tropics?
"It does put him in a bad light and unfortunately he is the one to blame for lying. But you cant' say he wasn't loyal." He wasn't loyal to the ethical and fiduciary responsibilities he had to the people of the nation. The duty to do the right thing. The belief that the good in people will always triumph the evil. That type of thing. Where was his loyalty to telling the truth?
Kinda negative in that last one knocking poor people, fat people, and people who rely on the government. LOL.
I think there is more popular support for operations in Afghanistan, as the 9/11 attacks originated from there and there doesn't appear to be an occupation the scale of Iraq, or dare I say a miserably failing mess like Iraq's occupation. Just an opinion.
"But $25 a week is cheap, either you are hiring illegals or you have a doggon small yard!" hiring illegals, street kids? "The government is not answerable enough." $10 billion MISSING IN IRAQ! You are making lots of sense here Brad. "This is because cheap food is the worst food for you, back years ago poor were skinny because poor people were eating the same food as everyone else - just much much less of it. People of advantage these days, tend to eat much he
I think corporations are acting in the best interest of themselves and job loyalty just isn't affordable. Much more so because of economic forces then "Unions". You can blame worker productivity slackness or better worker productivity on the dedication of a team, but it comes down to a variety of factors, both internal and external. If those factors don't like up favorably for that company that company loses business or it's value and the business goes
"better soldiers could be doing bigger and better things. " If you feel this is truly a problem and represents a majority of the armed forces one the whole why don't you bring that to the attention of your leadership? Phrases like... "punish the screw-ups" "college seeking shitheads." give me lots of pause thinking about how you describe our armed forces. "Education has little to do with whether a man or woman will be a bett
Most people are a bit or too much too lazy to go the extra effort, even for themselves. I.e. working that 9th or 10th hour in an 8 hour day. They may look at house work as that 9th or 10th hour otherwise. Like you said Brad if you worked that 9th or 10th hour and made the rate you make on that, you could invest that and make plenty of return on the interest to supplement weekends or throw a party, or dump it into a bank for a rainy day, say when you ar
"Bush is going to remain in office for the rest of his term, move on with your obsession." With any luck, the congress will ensure that American troops don't remain in Iraq that much longer in the numbers they are presently. So far the President had failed to pull us out of Iraq, even though we have won the war, had a freely elected government elected, searched and verified no usable WMD danger exists, helped to rebuild their country to post war levels and beyond, and now it's
I think your precentages are off, less then 1% are a problem in the military over their entire military careers if you regard dishonorable discharges. Though there are personnel problems in any organization, the military's problem isn't with the people it has, it's with not having enough to perform the duties it is being given by the civilian leadership. Beyond that, general's in the field are being overruled by civilian leadership in tactica
Pass the red.
My opinion shouldn't count for much, I've never been in the guard or regular army. The recruiter will go over the rewards as well as the commitments with your son. The guard is an excellent place to get an education if you have trouble affording one but with the perpetual state of major combat/occupation operations in Iraq the very real reality is he could/would have to face the reality of a deployment to foreign soil. He should make his own decisions though. If he is old enough and yo
I wasn't being critical of him being old, or fertile, just immature and whiny.
I think the situation in Afghanistan is largely the result of slow progress in areas outside the control of the capital. That and NATO's dropping of bombs on civilians, or what turns up often enough, to make headlines, as such. We certainly aren't helping ourselves by doing that over and over. It is logical to see the Taliban as enemies but really they are just rebels against the government we have sought to have free elections, elected, and installed into Afghanistan. You gu
Well it's nothing new to hear somebody bitching about "mortgaging our children future" paying for this or paying for that. But Brad is right when he says if the government would just stop increasing spending or slow that increase income would exceed expenses. I really don't see how we are wisely spending the money either. I mean the failed war in Iraq, according to the GAO there is something like $10 billion that has just fallen between the seat cushions in Iraq, and I know in the age
I just wanted to add something more hopefully I can dodge the crossfire in here. But I believe there was a GAO Government accounting office, report not too long ago that said that the rate of spending in the last few years is unsustainable. George W Bush and the Republican congress is responsible for that and nobody else.
"You fail to realize that many people get great pleasure out of working on their homes or cars." In the purely economic sense it doesn't make sense to not divert all labor into specialization. But there are always other factors involved and economics is rarely the only one or most important one to people. "the day was spent variously drinking, gambling and hanging out." This is what people value over making money lots of times. To be honest. In the economic sense thou
