Yea I tried that out yesterday too. It's funny taking a homeworld away from your neighbour, then they have no population and are completely screwed Although I haven't mastered the strategy yet - I need to work out how many research buildings to buy, how many factories to buy, what level of engine to research up to, and generally other stuff that will make it work! Also if you play the

Well I hope they do something. I haven't used starbases for ages because I just can't be bothered. Even when there's a nice economic starbase next to my home world it invariably ends up in the hands of the enemy! I suppose I am at least grateful that the game is easily playable without using starbases. I hope all of you - who are disillusioned with the starbase part of the game realise this and don't as one poster has said - let this aspect of the game prevent you from continuing to play!

The problem with starbases - for me - is that I just can't be bothered to send countless constructors off to build the things. I know it's not really difficult but if you want to build even a few starbases then it just gets a bit repetitive to have to direct constructors every turn or every few turns. Therefore my suggestion is to enable some sort of onsite upgrade for starbases. To add an options menu to starbases that allows action without using constructors - after the initial constr

This happened to me the other day! Luckily I had a few bonuses and I managed to get 1 other planet so I had 3! My strategy, which somehow worked, was to get plenty of trade going with my neighbours. Also, like others have said research influence. Then I researched planetary invasion pretty quickly and conquered some minor races. If you don't have any minor races you should definitely conquer the weakest (near) civilization! You have to be a bad ass to win from this sit

It's not until you starting trying to write strategies down that you realise just how many variables need to be considered! Although I disagree with Z42, there is absolutely no need to buy colony ships even on a Tiny map. In fact I play Tiny and Small most of the time because my PC isn't really good enough! (See my other post above for my starting strategy in full, but..) Say you have 11 tiles on your home world and no bonuses. You start with a star port. In week 1 buy a research buildi

If you want to make it easy play Custom Race and change the abilites. Put moral on 10% Planet quality on 10% and reproduction rates on 70%. Start a game and look at your home world to see what bonuses you have. If you have any research bonuses, build a research building there immeadiately. Regardless, queue up 3 factories, or if you have a 300% industrial bonus queue up 5 factories. Now change production to 100%, leave tax where it is and slide research to 100%. First research,

Yeh I've noticed this bug as well and also even though I play with a PQ bonus of 20% and my homeplanet has a class of 12, at the start of a game it generally has 8 green squares, when I swear this used to be 10 or 11. But like you have found, if you let the enemy conquer your planet and then take it back you make considerable gains!

My first ship is usually called the beast, it has hyperwarp 3, doom cannons and which ever advanced defences it needs. No time for a museum, it's too busy pulverising my enemies.

As others have said there is no single formula. However, the essentials are to colonise as many planets as early as possible, then make sure you have enough money to do whatever you want. This usually means 70% of all your tiles will be taken up with market centres -> stock markets. It's also good to stick a farm on each planet, sometimes on the 100% bonus but never on the 300% bonus unless the planet is huge! Also you should dedicated the whole planet to research where you build the

I like to think about it like this, Light takes 8.5 minutes to travel from the Sun to Earth. There are 525,600 minutes in a year. So A light year is (525,600 / 8.5) 62,000 times further than the distance between the Earth and the Sun. Then a Parsec is 3.2ish Light years, so a Parsec is 200,000 times the Earth Sun distance! Quite hard to imagine.

If you look at the area you occupy on the minimap, you probably only need about 10-15% of the galaxy to be competative. More if obviously better though I only just found this thread but this is my strategy for economy. If you want to change the ability points of your race, then set it to 70% population growth, 10% planet quality and 15% moral for 10 points. If not

I posted this in another thread but seeing as it is relevant this is my strategy for beating the computer on Tough without building a military I played Terran Alliance, War Party, Abilities: 10% Planet Quality; 70% Population Growth; Moral Bonus. I start the game queue to build 6 factories on my home world, a farm and the rest market centres. Then I put tax rate on 49% and product

Soldiering is crucial, the Tir-Quan and Aphrodisiac are the two most powerful wonders, those in combination plus choose war party, 70% population growth, rest of starting ability points in soldiering mean your military invincible. U are unlikely to ever lose a planet in the game yr playing. I just tried this out and I managed to play on Tough and win

I'm not really sure if this is a bug report, but the description of the omega research centre implies it will give a 50% increase to research but I think it only gives a bonus to the world it is built on, and then the bonus isn't particularly great i.e., no where near 50%

I'll tell you how I did it. I didn't modify any configs or cheat. Basically I played Yor then set my PQ bonus to 20% using 8 points, it started out as a PQ26 I think then I aligned neutral and jumped up to 58. It didn't have 58 tiles though but it was pretty much full
