No worries Brad. I have a tremendous amount of respect for you and Stardock, precisely because you're willing to publicly say "we messed up, and we're going to make it right." Companies that do that...generally do just that, and end up doing well in the long run. Companies that don't eventually lose the public trust. Some industries can get away with this (e.g. health insurance, arguably telco), but software and consumer goods industries really can't. Just my 2

XP still represents a huge portion of the market share, so I would continue supporting it. It's never going to generate long term growth, but can be a nice cash cow in the interim.
Check out Sager laptops (the ODM is Clevo). While their known for their ultra-high-end machines, they also have some nice, smaller mid-range machines, some of which are starting to have USB 3.0. The build quality is also excellent.
I actually disagree with trying to get a subsequent version re-reviewed. There have been a number of games through the years that were terrible at release, but were far more stable and enjoyable a few patches in (Heroes of Might and Magic: Dark Avatar, anyone?). As a consumer, it would be a real service if some of the review sites posted a "six months later" review of some games. For some, it would mean things like "while there used to be 100,000 players online at a time, no
Steps to reproduce: 1. Insert a disc into your CD/DVD-ROM 2. Create a shortcut by dragging the drive letter from Explorer onto ObjectDock 2 (tabbed dock) 3. Switch discs 4. The name on the drive shortcut on the dock remains the same
Windowblinds gets a nod a few pages later, too.
Congrats for the good press Fences team.
Thanks Servius. I just PMd MagicwillNZ.
+1 for honesty in business. I don't buy Stardock products because they're perfect; I buy them because they're supported by people who care. A little emotional attachment to one's product isn't a bad thing. FWIW, if Stardock had created Spore I would probably have gotten it. DRM and inflexible pricing have left me out, though. Instead I've spent my pennies on Impulse Weekend Deals, and pre-ordering Elemental.
I think Elemental is a great game, but side with those who wish the battles had more units--and units with more troops--than the small, skirmish-style that the tactical game became. I understand the reasons behind it, but my play style just prefers larger battles. So rather than sit around griping about a publisher kind enough to offer a no-questions-asked refund, I'd be interested in putting together a modding guide on how to make the game "bigger" without breaking any of the f
I have a smallish SSD drive, and two large media drives. The SSD drive contains most of my applications, including WindowBlinds, ObjectDock 2, IconPackager, etc. I'd like to change the default directories they use to store files. Does anyone know how to do this? Alternately, would it be simpler to use symbolic links between the real directory and the "media" directory? Running Win7 64-bit; thanks in advance for any help.
I had just the "Generic" structure button selected. When I selected "Fallen", it crashed. Crash log at link. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9118487/Elemental0_98-2010-08-17T13-49-09-38.zip
I had placed a half-dozen tree objects, adjusted size, adjusted rotation (Y-axis) and then changed to the "Pedestrian" button on the left when Elemental crashed. Crash report can be found here. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9118487/Elemental0_98-2010-08-17T13-25-57-325.zip
Congratulations Stardock!
Any chance of leaving cached, pre-parsed XML attached to save games? That would speed up their loading, at least. Alternately, begin caching map data while the user is still fiddling around creating the scenario, etc.
Ah, thank you. Kind of odd, but I guess it makes sense. Feature request: let us move it via the mouse (perhaps CTRL-click).
Title says it all. I can't seem to move any object with the mouse once I put it down.
Elemental: War of Magic: the Turn-Based Strategy Role-Playing Game with a Massively Multiplayer Modding Platform behind it. That's TBS/RPG/MMMP for you acronym-lovers.
I think it would be nice to have the final results of all trees available even if their victory conditions are disabled (possible exception: Conquest). I remember MOO3 had a set of technologies that, if Tech Victory was on would let you win the game once you had all of them, but which individually gave huge bonuses to certain parts of gameplay. Something similar would be nice. So, creating--or finding--a Forge of the Overlord doesn't make you automatically win, but might mak
At least I'm not the only one up past midnight on a Friday working...
While moving my Sovereign from one Goodie Hut towards another Goodie Hut 2 squares away, the game crashed.
I really like this new economic system as outlined. Cities serve an essential purpose, but city-spamming isn't necessarily the best way to get lots of resources. We can now easily have large, inefficient kingdoms, or small, efficient ones. I like how Influence now has a larger, more direct effect as well. Seriously, some modder should remake GalCiv2 on this engine. All of the art assets are there...(and not saying GalCiv2 wasn't great; it's one
[quote who="Demiansky" reply="74" id="2682362"] In movies, historically, the buildings get burned Cities were rarely obliterated and the fields salted. In movies, villains would often dart through city streets lighting up buildings before they even bothered grabbing any goodies, but this is straight up Hollywood. And what's more, people don't wait around to be slaughtered and enslaved. The City of Rome was sacked, even razed, many times and that certain
I prefer for the units to stay the same size relative to their surroundings. I guess I'm okay with a little bit of wiggle for purposes of viewability--such as pewter statues being larger than their surroundings--but it should be subtle.
I like this new magic system a lot . However, is it possible to leave the option, at least for modders, of making certain spells cost Essence? I like the idea of certain spells requiring commitment, rather than mere involvement.
