I'm currently working my way through a new tech tree that will give each race individual technologies, and allow the custom player to choose a mix of the different races technologies, one race's propulsion tech, and another race's ship building and research techs for instance. Unfortunately tech stealing somewhat messes up individual techs, but I'm hoping there will be an option to turn off all tech stealing added in the future. As I plan on having every race being recreated as a uniqu

I can't say I'm keen on the idea of rebellions of conquered systems. In my experience it's just annoying. Realistic, maybe, but annoying. Like in Rome: Total War, I was recapturing a province every turn against constant rebellions. Ridiculous in my opinion. Although, that said, some tweaks to surrendering might be a good idea.

Great I'll try that. If it works I'll post again. Edit: Well, it didn't work in the word "doesn\'t". Is that how you meant it should be? Should I put the \ at the beginning of the whole sentence?

This is just a little thing, but it would be nice if we could use apostrophes in descriptions of techs or improvement names etc. I keep having to write really odd sounding sentences to avoid using them... If there's a good reason why we can't have them (like a code thing) please tell me. Edit: The answer, in case anyone cares, is to use the apostrophe symbol (in MicrosoftWord) instead of the apostrophe key on the keyboard.

Ok, I thought as much. I think it would be a nice option, because I want to do a mod with multiple tech trees (as well as for normal gameplay reasons) and it'll mess everything up if people can get techs from other trees. Ah well.

I find microsoft word works nicely, and it's much easier on the eye than notepad. Though it's a little awkward setting fields and stuff sometimes...

I've just looked over the PC Zone review again and I'm still surprised at how very inaccurate and unfair it seems. I didn't notice the game because of the poor review until I tried a demo, and I loved it immediately. I guess you just can't always trust reviewers.

I think this has already been said somewhere, but it would be nice to have the tech tree screen be able to draw two techs leading to one tech nicely, because in function it works fine, but on the tech tree screen both required techs each lead to the tech they're both needed for individually. Obviously not an essential thing though, and I see it could be quite complex if you had a lot of techs crossing over each other. Also, is there any way to disable tech stealing either in the

There have been posts on this before I think, I forget exactly why that happens. Components scale up in size on larger hulls, I believe it's something to do with that.

I think the whole concept of paying to change your alignment is a bit odd. Surely you should have to stick with the consequences of your actions, instead of paying everyone off so they forget about them. But, you should keep on getting events that can alter your alignment (and probably not just when colonizing planets), so you can change your alignent after researching Xeno Ethics. Although that would make it difficult to deal with the research options afterwards...

I can't help but feel that a 3D environment sounds good in theory but would be very awkward to navigate. You'd have to turn the camera constantly, and you still wouldn't be able to see everything properly. Keeping research from each campaign mission to the next might be a good idea, if you lengthened the research time perhaps.

This is a fascinating topic, but I don't see any evidence for ShadowTek's view. Surely most games are proof that cheats do not destroy a game. Look at say, Half-Life 2, or Half-Life. They have cheats, but were and are hugely successful, and mods are still being produced for half-life now. If people stop playing a game because they've used cheats and got bored, they must have got bored of playing without cheats first, so they were gonna stop playing anyway. I'm afraid I just can't see how ch

A good point, but it seems quite a lot of people who want multiplayer want it to play with their friends, so they wouldn't show up in that count (I'm playing a play by email game with friends currently, but I''ve never even looked at any online servers). I'm not too bothered about multiplayer, but a hotseat or play by email option would be nice, so long as it didn't detract from many other game features being added. Is hotseat and play by email easier to implement than other modes (like sim

If you want to upgrade all ships of a type at once you can tick an 'upgrade all' box in the upgrade window, it's towards the top left corner. You might still need to move all your ships into open space first though, I'm not sure. But it still cuts down upgrading time.

This is a very interesting topic, and makes me glad that I'm not very good at this game. I can play on challenging difficulty, and generally win, but it's not always easy. I can panic if there's an empire bigger than mine, because I don't know the tactics or exploits to have a certainty that I'll beat the AI if they get nasty when I'm unprepared. But like I said, generally I will win, yet I'll have had a decent fight or some competition to get there. Perhaps there should be a checklist of a

Is there a way to break alliances with minor races? I can't find a button anywhere, I know you break alliances with other major races in the relations tab, but I can't find a way to break alliances with minor races. Am I just being thick or is this a problem?

If you put a decent amount of funding into espionage, you can steal a lot of technology. I stole about 17 technologies in one game. I did have a 15% espionage bonus to my civ though.
