I am only speculating on this, but your intermittent crash may be caused by the game calling something up that isnt there. It will work fine if that particular file isnt being called upon. Again check for typos in your mod files. Ron may be right about it being in the map file as well. What does the error say when the game crashes? If it says anything at all. I know if i misstype something on a map file the game will lock up on loading the map, and ill have to ctrl-alt-del out of it.
Major Stress
I'll be checking out the various mods when i get some more free time to do so. Where i was going was not so much the balancing of maps, because everyone wants a balanced map. I was thinking more about the appearance of maps. Instead of having patterns that are perfect squares, circles, triangles, and whatnot why not toss a little chaos into that order. In the center of my map i did use random generated objects. Also i only made 1 strategic (choke) point for each faction that yo
The bad thing about notepad editing is that if you misstype something it is a guaranteed crash. The best way to avoid this is to edit 1 ship, or file at a time while keeping a backup file handy in case you screw it up. Test it after you finish to make sure no crashes occur. It is tedious, and time consuming, but it will assure when your mod is finished that it will work as intended ill check out yer mod later <img src="smiles/Wink.
Most of us are pretty new at this map making thing, and Thanks to p5yy things have become much easier. What i would like to know is what kind of maps people prefer? Evenly balanced numbers of Perfectly aligned worlds in a set pattern like a square, triangle, or whatever? Or toss in a random factor? while keeping your balanced pattern like i did with Ulysses Triangle, make sure none of the worlds are perfectly aligned. I think not having a grid in the map editor is an excellent idea. The
LOL! ok will do
To get the pirates working you need to open your map in notepad, and find the planet that is flagged as type "piratebase" Then change the isPiratePlanet FALSE to TRUE. Example: designName "Planet0" inGameName "Yarr!! Mo Fo!" type "PirateBase" pos [ 72 , 80 ] playerId -1 isHomePlanet FALSE isPiratePlanet TRUE This should get the pirate raids goin

Give it a try, lemme know whatcha think. Im still stuck using rapidshare. Multi if you see this can you mirror it on Sins.biz Get the map here at Sins.biz [link="https://www.sins.bz/infusions/pro_download_
Beta 5 doesn't exist. It is just as the OP title suggests. It is just a RUMOR. lets move on to testing what we have.
If Master of Orion 4 ever comes to be (yea right).. They will be taking lessons from Ironclad Huh? Whats this about Beta 5??
I think it was hit on the nose that someone mentioned that RTS's from CnC, Starcraft, all the way up to Company of Heroes, and SupCom boil down to how fast you can do frantic multitasking micro clickfests. Sure it may have been fun back in the days of CnC, and Starcraft, but IMO it is now old hat. Been there done that. If Starcraft 2 is nothing more than a graphics upgrade of the original with the same type of gameplay then i aint bothering no matter how good the story is. The zoom, and
If you give the current AI a head start it does do pretty well for itself. You will still beat it, but the battles become more fun. Do not attack it until it reaches tech level 15. I usually screw around fortifying a few worlds, and shrugging off attacks until i see insurgents start popping out of the woodwork then i go ballistic with the can-o-whoopass. By that time the AI is attacking with more than just piecemeal forces.
Patience, Im sure p5yy wants to make sure everything works before he unleashes this tool upon us
I can just see the big signs on Vasari worlds "Coming soon...Walmart"
Population is your main source of credits so the more population you have the better. Same with metal, and crystal. The more worlds you control the more metal, and crystal resource you acquire. You can research upgrades to this to acquire more faster. As what was said much depends on what map you are playing. Going for trade ports early is usually a solid plan to get your economy going. Dont forget to improve your newly colonized worlds, because they drain your income
Heh, that kinda reminds me of the old Eve Online days.. We all said "There is no such thing as a fair fight in EVE". It was true. I don't mind odd numbers of players, or even losing to being ganged up on. As long as i can get in a good fight.
I usually have broadcast centers researched by the time i see enemy culture start to spread. In the AI's case it becomes a quest to knock out his BC's, because the AI likes to build a bunch of them all at one place. Like what was said usually building a few BC's of your own counters enemy culture.
The one function that i miss that this game is lacking is the "Guard" command. That would make life so much easier.
The Data texture is mainly used for Illumination, Reflection (mirror), and Bloom effects. Along with the Team Color. The Specular highlights is in the alpha of the color texture itself. AFAIK all models need a DA file even if it is just a small 32x32 blank (black texture). To prevent the "glowwy" problem in some video cards. All the sins models use some form of normal map, but it is optional AFAIK. These shader flags may not be in sequence in the models file.
I understand your frustration. The formations have been discussed before, and i am not sure what if anything is going to be done. If they are going to be implemented, or not. The dev's are aware of the AI woes right now, and a new better AI is in work. There are many topics about this. The best way to control you fleets right now IMO is to keep your ships in control groups except for the fighters, and bombers. Then set aggression at "hold position". It is the bottom left button
Lol I HAD TO!
LOL!! I was waiting for this to come out of the woodwork
I dont want to see "scripted", or "cheating" AI's. Like Annatar said it becomes way to predictable, and easily countered. Like Homeworlds AI (it is both scripted, and it cheats). I do want the AI to react to what it sees. Like a lightly defended world that is easy pickings. I also want it to be unpredictable, and launch surprise attacks where you would least expect it to do so. Forcing you not to use a single steamroll fleet. I also want the AI to stand up, and fight when it is being attacked.<b
Grrr. Shadow replied before i could edit my post It doesn't have to be 1 huge map pack. It can be a series of packs over time, because new maps will keep coming after the initial release. We can also vote on which maps should be included to make sure the map packs get the best the community can offer.
That sounds like a plan. Toss in Whack-a-mole just for the hell of it
With all the new AI post's, debating, and AI improvement input. I think it is pretty safe to say that most people want a good single player experience as well as multiplayer. What can i say?.. People like to watch
Ok, There will be some people that will probably be unable, or unwilling to play online. So all they will have as a challenge in Sins is the AI. I dont plan on spending very much time playing online. My old, and arthritic hands just cant keep up with you young ones For the few people that for whatever reason wont be able to do multiplayer. Why not at least try to make the AI as much of a challenge as possible. How will it not be u
