In my last game with the Yor in 1.31 I think I had transports with over 90 speed by the end of the game. Yes in v1.31 in general with the miniaturization fixed you can get far better than you could in v1.2. And the Yor's 20% (I think) miniaturization bonus is huge. The best I get, non Yor, is 79 with two advanced troops modules per ship. This is witho

Ender series by Orson Scott Card Great series but too short. I personally liked the Honor series by Weber. Also give the Amber series (or anything else) from Zalazney a try. And the John Carter from Mars series by Edgar Rice Borroughs (the guy that wrote Tarzan). I probably have a collection of close to 2000 titles but most are in boxes and I haven't
How long is a game on gigantic? For me about three weeks, but I spend about 30 hours per week. I've seen some folks complete one in three days, but these guys have been playing since GC1 days. I'm hoping to reduce my time as I get better at it, but my first v1.31 game is probably taking longer than usual. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" ali
The formula is as Iztok said. This is the maximum defense you can get, then a random integer from 0 to your max defense is generated, this is your defensive "roll". The attacker also "rolls" a value from 1 (the minimum attack value) to his maximum attack value. The defenders roll is subtracted from the attackers roll and any positive result is the defenders damage. An example of 100 beam attack against defense of 40 beam, 30 missile and 20 mass driver. Attacker could roll any v
Anyone remember the "Alternative Metaverse" we had going in GC1? So how would this alternative metaverse work? Is it merely the sum of games submitted? Would it contain the 5% depreciation of scores every month to a minimum of 65%. Using the cumlative total isn't really fair to newer players. They'll potentially never have a chance to catch u
I find myself really wishing that selections would stick. They do sometimes, but not always I'm not totally sure what you're asking for here. Are you saying you'd like to select an improvement then be able to hit the build button consecutively and be able to fill the empty tiles with the same improvement? If so, it sounds reasonable, but I don't use t
I see how it's not easy to make technology one of the spoils of war I always thought that the rate of technology development should be proportional to galaxy size. When there's 500 planets in the galaxy and you get 65 of them your research base is far stronger than if there are 50 planets in the galaxy and you get 6 or 7 of them. The other categories
or what she says i can Good one I know *exactly* what you mean. I forgot to rank GC2 on my all time favorites. As far as years spent it's far behind. I played Reach for the Stars for 12 years on my Apple IIe until it died in 1994.
Cute. But I never use the launcher I just map the link directy to the executable.
I don't usually sweat it, since one of my strategies is staying ahead of the tech curve by a LONG margin. At suicidal this is far easier said than done. I usually settle for out researching them in a few cruical areas.
Repair by upgrading ships. One of my favorites. Actually I thought I discovered it when I first posted (Repairing Ships via Upgrade) about this on Aug 18th. But I did a search and you had pretty much covered the topic in your post from Aug 14th. BTW I tend to look at this as spending a reasonable cost for a reasonable service, but I can see how some f
Yes, yes, yes. This is a very good policy, one which I believe I shall attempt to employ more often! Good sentiment. Too bad the attempt only lasted a few hours.
There are lot's of opinions and most of them valid. I generally select the Torians for the free 25% morale bonus then select the 30% economic bonus and the 70% pop growth bonus with my 10 racial ability points and finally the Federalists for the 20% economic bonus. It's pretty clear my strategy is based on building a strong economy. I also play only gigantic so I'm not sure how this translates to tiny, but I think it should do OK. If you play on a larger map you pretty much do get all
Yes, but then we miss out on our own little drama unfolding daily! If you want drama watch Desperate Housewives. I tried to get the thread back on topic. Mascrinthus tried to get the thread back on topic. The interlude lasted for all of 5 hours before the bashing began again. Jasamcarl, Evil Stormbringer words like idiot and stupid are unnece
I've had the game since late July. I probably spend close to 30 hours a week between the game and forums. Most nights I get up at 2AM to get in an extra hour or two of game time that my wife doesn't know about.
Yes, I see as you enter them in your post they show as X - ( then once you submit them they display as the graphic . This makes some of these obvious but not all (NOTSURE is pretty obvious). wasn't even on Wiki. I found it somewhere on the web with a meaning of "user just died". Now if someone will just te
You're debug.err is in the directory where the game executables were installed. Search for debug.err if you can't find it. Open it with wordpad or notepad and copy (ctrl-c) the contents and paste (ctrl-v) them into your post.
Some of the smilies used on this site mystify me. I've seen some sites that give you a mouseover tooltip explaination of the smilie. I get the more basic ones but some are very unclear. For example, this one looks like someone having difficulty in the bathroom. And what's up with and <img src="ht
Once someone posts a response after yours, they may very well be responding to something that you posted, perhaps even quoting your post. It could make someone's response seem nonsensical were you to later go in edit or delete your post. Forum edit's are allowed as long as no one has posted after you. I think this is a good policy. I often go back and edit my posts, usually for spelling or grammer, but you have to be quick. The finality of hitting the "Post Comment" button is a good th
And it was addressed at me even though you wouldn't think so due to the OP issue We're way off topic here. It's not fair to those who really want to discuss the upcoming v1.4 update to have to wade through these "extraneous" posts, at this point they probably outnumber the on topic posts. Yes, of course his comment was addressed to you, it's
Jasamcarl said: given that OP has more or less admitted that he made an ass out of himself Since the original poster was Mystic, I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. Plus, I really don't see what contribution this makes to the discussion of the release of v1.4. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgColor=#FFF394 cl
..."Here's your problem! You have an IRQ conflict." Usually when the PC is giving me the hourglass for no apparent reason I wiggle the mouse and mutter under my breath "Here's a few IRQ13's to think about". I'm a hardware engineer and had designed PC's from 1990 to 1994. The last PC that I designed was a 90 Mhz P54C. Even up until then they
I almost feel sorry for an entire generation of gamers who have never had to continously adjust the order they load drivers in the config.sys file, in order to maximize available base memory. Gamers who didn't have to know the difference between expanded memory or extended memory. Who among them has had to create different boot floppies for playing different games? I somet
because you can out Colonize the AI everytime if you do it right My hat is off to you if you can out colonize the AI on suicidal in v1.31. I used to be able to (barely) out colonize suicidal AI in v1.2 but in my first v1.31 I basically got my a** kicked. I think with a lot of work and adjustments I can achieve parity with suicidal AI in v1.31 but out
someone disagreed with me so I figured I better not say for sure without knowing for sure Good example of discretion being the better part of valor. Kudos.
