from what I know you need skinstudio to make a windowblinds theme. Skinstudio comes in various flavors, the free version will start you off nicely if you don't mind the 5-10 second wait until it opens (purchasing full version will remove the wait time, "nag" screen). Skinstudio brakes down the sections that you can skin. Choose a starting place and spread out from there (some people like to start with the start button, others like to start with the window frame borders, others st

Brandon, you're assuming that everyone will upgrade to vista - I don't think that's accurate, alot of people will continue using xp for quite some time and those winxp user's who have windowblinds will continue to rely on this site's impressive collection of windowblinds themes to skin their xp os. SP3 for XP won't come out till sometime late 07/early 08. WinXP will be alive & well for sometime after that as well. Plus the windowblinds section of this site sees some of the greatest do

I'm not sure where I should post this so I'll start here and see what happens. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that the download numbers on the summary pages are not correct. ex. https://www.wincustomize.com/top.aspx?type=authors&sort=0&libid=1 If you check out total windowblinds downloads by author for the past 30 days, it shows that I have 1797 (a decent number in the wb category to be sure) but it should probably higher than that. I just released an update to on

I've personally downloaded & installed the ctp previews for vista (beta2, rc1, rc2). I can't see myself upgrading the xp workstations at the office where I work anytime soon. The machines we currently run are relatively new (ibm thinkcenter workstations, ranging in age from 6mths - 2 yrs old). Even on the newest machines I have at work with 512mb - 1gb ram and newer, faster SATA harddrives among other decent components, they received less than stellar ratings from vista system analyzer,

As for the 5 top skinners in any given library, many are only there because they upload a LOT of skins and get decent downloads, not necessarily because they create really good skins. Just my opinion. WOW, I think that's a blanket statement if I ever heard one - opinion or not. Not necessarily because they create really good s

I still hear that wonderful phrase "This is all your fault." and it's been a few years since we had our last kid, I don't think that phrase really ever goes out of style. - Just hope the kids don't pick up that kind of language anytime soon! Nice article, it should be in print, maybe try to see if the local paper will print it - it should be mandatory reading for all new fathers.

I just started a new post on this issue but I thought I would copy it over here as well. I used to be able to check my total downloads for the day by pulling up my page with all my skins. I can still get an overall total which is nice but it would also be nice to still have the ability to get a total for the day. The column still shows downloads by skin for the current day & overall but the column sum at the bottom of the list shows 0 Not a priority because I can just copy & p

More on this (from another article this one by Paul Thurrott, WindowsITPro - it such an interesting story that I can't help but continue researching it) ... ...." Only Apple could announce a product with a name that it knows to be trademarked by another corporation, and then act as if it were the victim. This week, Apple announced its iPhone device, despite the fact that Cisco has owned the trademark on iPhone since 2000, when it purchased t

here's a quote from an article I just read on this subject: ..."The name iPhone is a registered trademark of Linksys, a division of Cisco. Linksys picked up the iPhone name when it bought a company called Infogear Technology Corp. in 2000. Cisco's iPhones are telephone handsets designed for use on a VOIP (voice over Internet Protocol) network. The iPhone has proved to be the most talked-about product at this year's Macworld, and its positive reception has sent Apple's stock su

I've read an article (a few in fact) about how the Aero gui makes your system run alot hotter than normal, and if you are a Vista capable laptop user running the aero gui will tax your laptop battery life considerably. I remember another article by Paul Thurrott or Michael Otey that stated that their laptops ran considerably hotter (from 50+ C in Vista standard gui mode, to over 80+ C while aero gui was running). Vista desktop pc's won't be bothered

I totally agree, NLite is one of the best utilities out there for creating slipstream winxp install cd's - I've used it in the past and I love it. I updated my original winxp install cd and slipstreamed sp2 with it. I think you can also slipstream other windows updates with it as well but I haven't tried it.

I for one am surprised that biometrics aren't in place & used in a military facility that holds the type of confidential data that you're talking about. Technically long passwords are great for security, the breakdown is when you have people writing them down on paper, saving them in excel files and emailing themselves this account information. We've been using biometric scanners at our work for almost a couple years already and I personall

http://unclerob.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SkinID=5956&LibID=1&comments=1 I created the above windowblinds project on 12/15, edited & submitted it again on 12/17, I've noticed some new windowblinds projects have been submitted & released on this site dated 12/21. I've read some other posts from other users mentioning similar problems with their skins being temporarily "lost". It looks like it was downloaded once (possibly by a site moderator who was testing it) If a s

The windowblind project was approved and was released for download. Thank you all for your replies to my original post. However, I goofed and updated the image on the skin and now it's back awaiting moderation. If interested, you can see the updated image here: https://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SID=1&SkinID=5949&LibID=1&comments=1 Look for it soon, it should be released again within a few days I hope. I got some good feedback on it already too, it got m
