Yeah I wish I could do that, but there are no settings for me to set it up like that. In Skin Studio, I have those sections wiped so that it defaults to the sp_button bitmaps in the windowblinds style.
yeah, I've never attempted to do it myself. I assume if you skin the win7/10 arrow section, it will override the xp parts and want you to skin the shutdown section as well. Would be cool to combine the 2.

To me this totally authentic. Great job on this! I like what you showed earlier about the xp style logoff button though. It would be cool if you could get something like this to work:
I originally made it load the Tahoma font, but it just looked all blurry and not sharp.
Segoe UI (default OS font) is also a good choice although that was first used in Vista.
these files have appeared there beside the .wba ??
yeah those files stick around and sometimes retain the name of the original skin rather than the current name. I think they may be leftovers from older versions of WB, but they still contain essential code to the workings and thus cannot be removed. I'm sure Neil would know.
Maybe 2 of 3 Knows what's going on
not really. But I can tell you that Sks has been a bit wonky for me in the last 6 months. I've had issues where the .wba that sks generates is broken in a way. I've uninstalled and reinstalled a newer version of sks and hope that that did the trick.....I won't know until I start on a new skin.
run the 'Tools, Clean Skin' function in SkinStudio
That tool doesn't get rid of all the leftover images. But luckily any remaining images in my skins are my own because I use a "skin template" that I have created that doesn't have any extras in there. Now, if a skinner uses the "new skin" function in sks and then deletes the substyles, when he uses the clean skin tool it will leave a ton <

Have you deleted anything manually from the skin folder, Andy? I have had whole sections go screwy because I deleted something I assumed was irrelevant to the skin I was running. Some of these leftover legacy files (labeled .uis.wb4 and such) wouldn't seem to have any relevance to a modern skin, but are like removing the foundation of your house. It is possible to delete something that didn't effect your win10 with start10 setup, but have an effect on a win7

I expect that the item mouseover on the right side gets chopped off on the top most item for you. That's because windows 7 reserves 40 pixels for the user icon even if it's hidden. You can easily "fix" it if it bugs you. Open the skin in skinstudio and move the right hand side top text margin down.
Good read, Tim! I think I have cursed SKS more than all other apps together. I hope there will be a Skinstudio for Windows 10 only but that they leave the current one available for those interested.
Absolutt! Some of the things I listed are probably OS related rather than WB related, so not fixable.

Skinning is HARD. SkinStudio is CONFUSING. I have collected a few tidibits along the way and have them saved as a txt file to reference when I forget what does what. I thought maybe I'd share this with the rest of you. Even though many already know these quirks, I'm sure that we are in a minority. Don't look at this as a complete skinning guide. I have listed here just some of the oddities that are sometimes hard to remember. And I certainly don't have the energy to list all t
Quoting 2of3, reply 8 All the images are encoded. Then I guess there are different versions, because mine is not, and yes, I know about the encoded skins like i.e. Sins of a Solar Empire wb.
