I can build a great computer with about 1200 USD. Somethings like four gigabytes of DDR2 ram is overkill and a waste of money. Minimizing ridiculous expenditures will put you in the 1000 - 1250 USD bracket for a computer (just the computer) and it'd still run as great a full year later.

I would like it to be customizable (X solar systems with Y planets each), or possibly (solar system A with X planets, solar system B with Y planets, etc). A cap of probably 15 (solar systems and planets within solar systems)is reasonable? That is what I am hoping for (the latter, but the former would be OK, not great, OK). Thoughts?

Wow, look at all those planets. Seriously that's a lot of planets. When engaged in combat, players don't have to guess or spend time zooming around the camera to see the size of the enemy force. Once they're in your planet's system, they show up on the interface. At a glance, you can see how powerful the attacking force is. Nexus style is cool. Some planet systems cont

Some points that will help you endure the wait: 1. You have paid nothing, and they owe you nothing. I heard someone say that you have to have $50 already in the bank. Annoyed? Then don't play the game. 2. Being in the beta is a privilege, not a right. You want to be in the beta, you wait for it. Don't like waiting? See step 1. 3. Stardock/Ironclad going back on their statements? Too bad, they make the decisions and the game. 4. Not happy? There's other custome

I don't want to get rid of this because when it comes down to it, you will have to micro these seemingly ridiculous things just to get ahead. Not sure on how it's going to be handled though, wait a week and when the beta's out, I'll tell you more.

But it's unfair. What if you had 5 screens watching 5 battles going on at the exact same time compared to a guy with 1 screen? Given this is just one guy with two screens, that extra 2 seconds between switching to map mode and normal mode is an unfair disadvantage!

If a planet does not have metal, it'd be very much like the moon and unable to keep atmosphere unless it is extremely big. If it is extremely big, it'd be much like Jupiter and would be unhabitable by humans (and plant life, I'd imagine). Planets can not go to either extreme, in my opinion. You have to have a balance of everything.

The best way to get a jump start on modelling would be to download a free modelling program and tinker (for a few months, at least). You'll learn all the nifty terms like what bevelling means, whats a polygon, faces, triangular polygons, bevel, vertices, etc. I recommend Wings3d, if you're really interested. I spent, perhaps, a year or less and I've gotten pretty apt. Nothing great, but I know what I'm doing.

gameplay over graphics. I prefer to play a smooth 3 bit game rather than a clunky uber-engine game. I absolutely agree with Schemanticsninja. While I appreciate eye-candy like everyone else, The Game comes first with eye-candy a distant second. This is a strategy game, after all, so I don´t want to watch a video/slide show, I want to play! Just my 2 cent Say what you want, graphics are firs

I'll be a damn bother to balance if everything wasn't equal. I don't think there'll be team colours or anything, but something like identifiers on the user interface or tactical user interface.

I'm pretty sure they're working to make the beta presentable. While it may be easier to just release a preliminary beta, and update with patches afterwards, first impressions are everything, and continually downloading patches is a drain on bandwidth and a waste of time for the beta testers. This is probably why it takes so long.
