I've noticed that the AI in this beta has a very one track mind. It will pick a planet to attack (usually very deep in enemy territory) and will just keep jumping there until either it gets there, it's destroyed or it hits a jump inhibitor. Even if the planet is taken by friendly forces, it will still keep going.

Yeah, I was wondering that too. How are we supposed to test game dynamics if we only get 1/3 of the game itself? Kinda hard to figure if something is overpowered unless we can try every planned option that the release would have (as in everything they are planning on putting on the release at the time of the gameplay beta). Unless I'm misunderstanding what "gameplay dynamics" means, I always thought it meant figuring out what features work with what features and (in the case of a ga
@Commassion: Yeah, but even then, they would have only a limited amount of materials to make the bomb, unless it the entire bomb is made up of energy (although the current bombs look quite solid).
It's how they are designed though. SOASE fighters won't necessarily have the targeting equipment needed for launching missiles. This could quite possibly be due to the fact that in space you need to decrease your mass rather than shape of the craft so you can pull off tighter maneuvers, while a bomber relies on the fighters for escort and therefore can deal with decreased maneuverability caused by the extra mass from the targeting equipment. So, yeah, in theory, you could probably str
While I do agree that fighters and bombers should have limited flight time, it should last for quite a while, enough to finish a fairly long (5 mins?) battle. Nobody wants a fighter or bomber that can only last half a battle. Also, as far as the bomber unloading their entire payload, I do think that if they use missles, they should be limited, I would say make it an ability. Because you don't want your bomber unloading everything on a kol that has its dampening field (sorry, forgot th
I'm actually not planning on playing SOASE online anyway, just with my brother/friends. The rest will be AI games.
Yeah, once again, speaking of the AI in this regard. I don't mind if some of the AI factions are all cutthroat like this, but when every single AI does the same cutthroat tactics, it gets both annoying and old. I enjoy having allies, however in the beta at least, my allies never act like allies, all it is is a NAP. Question for IC, will the AI ever be programmed to actually act like an ally? Or should I get used to playing the game without alliances every time?
I'm actually not terribly worried about variety with the ships. This is only beta 1 after all, if everything stays the same in the next beta though... The only reason why I brought this up was because if IC/SD aren't already planning something like this, they need time to figure it out (although they probably won't add any new game elements that weren't already planned at this point).
Secondly the capital ships seem too similar, what i mean is there's no progression. I want to have to research my way up the capital ship tree, like in homeworld. Start off with destroyers, go to cruisers, carriers all the way up to dreadnaughts. Make each one have progressivly higher costs, but in return higher armor, hp and damage. This would make more sense than the current buy as many cap ships of each kind. Imagine if you had destroyers which were good a
That's what I do to, with the akkan cruiser. However, my computer has taken it a step further, they will let an enemy wipe out one of my planets, then proceed to colonize it. (as in, they'll keep jumping a ship or two every couple minutes to see if I'm dead or not, then when I am, they colonize it.
Spaceballs ftw!
Have they already said you can't save multiplayer games?
I think your still missing the point. Despite the fact you said it yourself. From what it sounds like, you are still supporting your argument that gravity applies to all space. Which technically is true. If a man is floating far away from the earth, the galactic core will pull on him a bit, but it will be such a negligible force that it might as well be no force. The reason why our sun, and every other star, orbits the core, is because they are so damn big and dense. So yes, if you
Kryo was just trying to be nice daniel. Anyways, I think that you should be able to build a starbase inside a travel lane, that way, anything that is on it's way to the base will just keep going to the next planet if the base is destroyed. I also don't think it should create an artificial gravity well, it just has an area around it where ships can jump to and act inside (game function would be the same, but it wouldn't be called a gravity well).
My fleets usually consist of 1 of each cap, with about 20 scouts, 20-25 flaks, 5-10 siege for quicker bombardment, and eventually about 20 heavies. I find this works great, and have even though about no longer using fighters, but all bombers instead.
Not true, in orbit, everything is in free fall. But the further you go out, the less effect gravity has on an object. Gravity is not a term we use like love or hate to describe a concept, it is an actual physical force. Also, it would be 3 1/3 football fields long. 100 yds in a football field, 3 feet in a yd. 1000ft/3 is 333.33 repeating yds. The simple solution to the engine is not to make one big enough to accelerate that fast. All you need is one big enough to acceler
I'm curious, regarding the AI, are there any plans to give the AI an actually sense of alliances, because as far as I can tell, all an alliance actually is is a NAP. Until the inevitably break it (which they always do unless your quick killing everyone else). As in, I was in a losing fight, and my "ally" jumps a huge fleet to that battle, so I'm all, "hurrah, reinforcements...wait, where are they going, they're jumping away..." and they go right past the fight. I lost that planet beca
Yeah, your researching how to improve them, not actually improving them. Kind of like, it takes one person to build one prototype to be able to say eureka, you don't have to retrofit your entire fleet to call it a breakthrough.
Ctrl+Alt+Del does the same thing, at least for XP. Never knew of the other way.
Multi, I was actually suggesting (maybe I forgot to add that part) that you could only have one. So you would have to choose between what type you wanted.
I'm going to expand on Riptide572's idea of megaships. WWW Link I've been thinking of this actually almost since I first started to play. However, I'm unsure of exactly how close he is to my idea. Here is mine. I've heard of few people talking about how they would like factions to be more unique than just a color and an emblem. And I've been thinking that most RTS games have some superweapon
I don't see a problem with the realistic solar systems... From the screens I guess we can always imagine those are not solar systems but whole galaxies and what you see in them are the only noteworthy solar systems, represented by their "main" planet. That's what I've been doing. And the star is merely the center of the galaxy. Not necessarily a black hole though.
Have I ever told you guys how much I respect, nay, love you guys for your customer support?
It never did say nukes, but I assumed from the mushroom clouds. Besides, nothing short of an enormous (like, couple miles wide) meteor could eject that kind of atmosphere to keep the fireball going, so as it is (and from the sounds of slingshotting around planets and such, they are going for realism) a fireball that big shouldn't exist unless it wipes out the planet in one shot anyway, and it would indeed make the planet uninhabitable anyways. EDIT: Oh, and as for listing, who said it
I have a bit of a problem with the nuke explosions. A nuclear explosion isn't going to go that high. Sure it's a couple of miles high, but when you consider how big the planets are, it should only be a bit of a flash followed by and glowing spherical (viewed from above) cloud, not a mushroom cloud bigger than the atmosphere itself. For frame of reference, watch the Battlestar Galactica miniseries, or the end of Terminator 3, those have some pretty realistic looking planet side nuclear explosi
