To be safe, jack the car up, remove the front wheels and tighten the lug nuts down onto the rotors to hold them on tightly. Put a cinder block under each of the lower control arms and use jack stands behind both front wheels to support the car. Lastly, chock the rear wheels and set the parking brake. You can run the car without the wheels on it, just keep the rpms down to a minimum and use 1st gear. The blocks will support the front end and hold the axles straight and&
John, keep in mind that you will be taking the load off the wheel bearings with the car on jacks and the weight off of them, so bearing noise would be less noticeable. Also, be sure to support the lower control arms to keep the axles as straight as you can when running the car on jacks. If you run it with the wheels hanging too far you could damage your CV joints.
