I blame the Drath. Any game that they're in turns into a war-fest - sometimes against me, sometimes against other people. The closer you are to them, the more likely they'll pay someone else to smash you.

You're asking if the same guys who say "Our products are totally safe. By the way, perhaps I can interest you in some shards of glass for your young?" should be evil? Maybe not more evil than the Yor, but pretty evil.
Honestly, one of the biggest things for you to remember in order to dodge the tax crash is that population on your cash planets is more important than having a lot of them. A planet with six economic structures and 0.05b people is still going to be in the red. Don't be afraid to use extra colony ships to ferry population to your economic worlds if you don't make your home planet into one like I do - population needs to be funneled to those worlds first and foremost to dodge the tax crash.
The Galactic Guide Book does NOTHING. I built it, but still nothing could survey but the ships I had put the survey module on. Very depressing, especially since I couldn't deconstruct it.
If you put it that late it won't get nearly as much use. I'd really like the ability for a survey ship to do it, since you get one from the start.
Have to admit -I was sad when I got to the end of this AAR's current progress. Fight on, Terrans. And post on, Namus!
No, it doesn't, in that case Mumble was just saying how he liked to give the AIs techs for the one per player super projects so he can get multiple instances when he attacks.
Muchos gracias Stardock for being the best company as far as customer lovin goes.
Hmmm... I rather like this idea.
Supreme Commander is too spam focused for my tastes. At least in SC I had to use the individual units to my advantage. That said, I generally prefer TBS games over RTS because there's more Strategy and less CLICK FASTER THAN THAT GUY. Also, as a LONG TIME fan of the C&C series, since the very first game... C&C3 was a pile of crap.
Yeah, I'm worried about this pretty hardcore too. I'd much much rather see it toned down than have the game be completed with it in it's current incarnation. The fact that I no longer have to worry about money in a game like this is pretty disheartening, and it gives civs with + influence a HUGE bonus.
Not sure it's a bug - do you have your military production at zero?
I bought this game originally by lurking around and seeing the quality of Stardock's commitment to proper releases of games and satisfied customers, not just the bottom line. Continue that tradition, Stardock - release as late as you have to and BLOW MY MIND WITH AWESOME. -Ax
Late in the thread, but this was very very informative man! thanks!
Yeah, I've never seen an AI pick Xeno Ethics either. It's very odd. It also locks off access to those neat techs on AIs.
I'd like to know what the rationale behind this is too. I'd also really like to know why it's impossible in a lot of cases to make a custom race that's as powerful bonus-wise as many of the starter races. (My xml coding doesn't count )
There are only two Mega Events that I refuse to touch, and therefore I've always shut them off. Spy Invasion of DOOM - Where every single planet gets about fifteen spies, for every planet in your control. Lategame when you've already been using and upgrading spies, and these guys are now sitting on your economics, you're seriously totally screwed, or you spend the next two years nullifying them. Not fun. Pirate Fleets - The problem isn't that there is suddenly a new, bru
I like the idea of land based weapons. In a world with hyperdrive, giant beam weapons, et al, it's a little silly and in my opinion an oversimplification to not have land based weapons too. After all, a starbase can boost damage to ships in a (overall speaking) very large area, so clearly it is able to project it's power a long way. Therefore I think that planet based weaponry that makes it more difficult to invade a planet would be very nice. It's be a large help over the current wa
First of let me say I want Multiplayer. I'd like nothing more than to play this game with a bunch of friends, each playing out our empire and trying to one-up each other, or playing it on a tough difficulty level and try to survive. However - OP, you come off like a real whiny brat. At this point, we're exceedingly, exceedingly lucky Stardock hasn't caved in to whiny people like you and released a buggy, poorly-implemented multiplayer expansion for 20 bucks and said "THERE, IT
Frogboy and Kryo (and many others im sure, sorry for those i left out) do read these forums regularly. and I have to say, I agree with this idea. Alliances with tech trading off is a pain in the butt.
Question - if you get a Starship Bonus from a planet and build a ship, then upgrade that ship in the field, does it retain that bonus?
Yes - I'm here lurking more than I'm posting but that just gives me more of a chance to accept their consistant bettering of a game.
[quote] Mmmmmwellllll...I don't think it is quite that simple. It's true that in a single player game, you don't cheat anyone but yourself, but it's conceptually sloppy, and should be fixed for no other reason than "roleplaying" considerations. Conceptually, it would be nice to feel like you can engage in any playstyle you wish, and not be penalized for doing so. That's a perfectly good reason to go back and balance your game concepts. Does it *need* to be balanced in order to ma
NLCs are nice if you're going for a tech victory, or need the tech lead bad... but Evil has the Evil Weapons Techs, the Artifical Slave Center, and a ONE-HUNDRED-PERCENT econ bonus. That's hard for NLCs to beat.
