It would be cool if a meteor storm would bombard your planet once in a while, maybe like once ever 100 times you play the game. I remember somebody posted something about adding moons to the game, imagine destroying the moon and the debris bombards the planet or drift out in space and hit another planet.
That actually sounds like a great idea. I need to look into this stuff. So far all the maps I've played haven't included anything very noticeable except an aste

Would it make sense/be possible to make some gravity wells suffer from very dangerous conditions? Like electrical storms/nebulas? I think this would offer some strategic significance if they would act as a natural cloak due to electrical interference. One reason why I ask this is because of the fact that I love using asteroid fields as combat areas with the Akkan capital ship. With the increased targeting to my ships, enemy fleets get mopped up rather easily due to the increased chance
Right now I'm just trying to replace the sound effects with those from Freespace 2. So far the only things I see which can be a bit problematic is the fact that, beam weapons do not power up/power down in Sins and there is no sound effect for ships entering warp, but there is a sound effect for ships powering up warp engines. Also, capital ships share the same warp entry/exit sound effect as frigates. I don't remember if this was the same in Freespace 2, but I do know that ther
!!! I finally found a working VPViewer. I'm extracting the sounds now to replace the ones in Sins >_> Time to hear that lovely beam cannon powerup/fire sound effects :D Man...I really want to know what happened to the GTVA after they destroyed the Capella jump-node. I also want to find out what was beyond the second gate you find when you jump through the one in the nebula during the black ops mission =| I think the sound files have to have a frequency of 44100. Tried convertin
Oh wow lol. Cool. Thats neat. Gees, never crossed my mind that they would do that if it wasn't actually included. Thank you for the reply!
I was wondering, how hard would it be to have combat chatter? It doesn't have to be anything significant but just something to at least make these fights seem a bit more epic. Like, I would enjoy hearing fighter pilots talk during engagements, brag about kills or even warn another pilot he's being followed, stuff like that. Or even, I'd like to hear frigate commanders give orders/complain about damages. One thing I loved about Dawn of War was how there were all these battlecries. It mad
Yeah, that is really annoying. It doesn't really seem right for them to just pop out of nowhere.
I really love Alpha Centauri when it comes 4X games but I can't stand any of the Civilization titles. It's sad how excited I was over Civ4. I've owned Sins for about three days and I played it more than Civ 4 =\
1) Record the sounds from BSG with a program like Audacity 2) Save those sounds 3) Check which sounds are the ones for the ones you want to replace inside the sound folder in the Sins's directory 4) Backup those sounds in the Sins sound directory 5) Rename the files you saved to those of the ones you want to replace in the Sins sound directory 6) Overrite the sounds in the sounds directory (make sure you made backups) The clips you record from BSG have to be in .ogg
If you can't find your CD's, Freespace 2 is available for download legally. Also, I think the downloadable version comes with enhanced textures and such.
Do the effects of a repair station stack with other ones in a system? Like if I have two, does that mean my ships get repaired at double the speed or something?
I find this really annoying too. The computer would send a scout through my systems and even with my entire fleet shooting it, it still manages to get away past the planetary defenses and all that jazz. Really need to do something about it :\
This game is more like playing an RTS version of a fps space simulation where instead of flying a fighter or bomber, you are managing the empire's planets and fleet at the same time. The game doesn't rely exclusively on building factories or something and then spamming an enemy with it but rather managing the fleets, planetery population, economy, etc (though the economy model is very lite). If you have ever played Galactic Civilizations, it would be like that but with real-time combat
INNOCIV! Hey man. Yeah, this game is really a frigate spam fest against a computer. Most of the time the computer just sits in one spot and builds up on the most basic frigate to attack with. It would be nice if frigates were more expensive. I'd say the best way to fix this is to make bombers good against all sorts of frigates and give capital ships/cruiser carriers more hangar space while increasing the cost for all ships. This game is really good but the only downsi
I'd like to play against an A.I. that doesn't spam the most basic type of frigate =|
If you guys are going to do a Freespace 2 mod, I some tracks from it. I wouldn't mind ripping the rest so you can use it for the mod. And I think I would even help redo the entities for ships/fighters/etc so that it's more a fighter/bomber combat game rather than frigate vs. frigate.
Oh cool! Thanks much.
Anyone figure out what dictates how many squadrons can be created on any ship? I was looking at the capital carrier.entity file and found: squadTypeEntityDef:0 "SquadPhaseCombat" squadAntiMatterCost:0 0.000000 squadTypeEntityDef:1 "SquadPhaseBomber" squadAntiMatterCost:1 0.000000 I'm guessing that has to be fighter/bombers. I can't figure out how to increase the number though. I checked the squadphasebombers.entity and see I can increase the number of ships per squa
Thanks for the tools :D
This looks pretty slick. My b/f wasn't into this game when he was watching me play it, but after I showed him this thread he really wants to get into it >_> Good work guys. Truely amazing stuff.
Flak frigates are awful for anything else but against fighter/bomber wings. Whats the point of having them in the game if they can't even do that job well enough? And as much as a pain it is to have to look for which frigates are flak ones, it's just something that has to be dealed with. Thing is though, this game is not about fighter/bombers vs. fighter/bombers with frigates as support units but rather a frigate vs. frigate with capital ships as support units. Maybe by changing the uni
I just played my first match and I didn't like how easy it was to spam frigates so now I'm curious if theres a way to increase the price on it. Thanks all.
I'd suggest using a program like Irfanview to save it as a jpeg. MSPaint really makes the jpeg compression godawful so you'll lose an unnecessary amount of quality. Irfanview is free to use/download and contains no spyware. Let's you resize pictures and a bunch of other stuff too.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Thats one reason why I actually liked GalCiv2. It was so easy to import custom portraits/faction symbols into that game. Thanks for the compliments!
