while I think this victory conditions is very cool and I hope to get some time to check it out i more detail, I do have an issue: you see, the number of points taken for this calculation can be negative. however, relations as they are displayed can never go below 0. that is a bit strange to me and makes it slightly harder to ascertain where all these negative points come that effectively hinder my diplomatic path to victory. tbh I don't even see the point of why relations have to be capped wi

from what I could gather, US is just a very, very individualistic society. basically 'you are what you make of yourself'. if you are not successful, then you are not trying hard enough, that is how I understood their mind set. now, that has positive effects. an incredible freedom in which to prosper and create ideas, businesses, etc. but if you happen to have no particular talent or abilities, you are in trouble. no one will help you, because it's not their job to do so. ok. that's a bit over

so, finally all this hype is over. or has just started? in any case, on a certain level is does look tempting, but to be honest I would not know what to do with it. I'm not a smartphone person, I don't want or need to be on the internet all the time. so, no, I won't get one. elsewhere I read about a comparison to the kindle. now, a slightly larger kindle with touch screen and that good display ... that would interesting. but a standard lcd display is just too tiring to look at all the

you can also access change logs in impulse, if you right click on an item and view the history. nice changes, especially the pirate missions do look promising. hopefully they will be effective enough to be of use. about the new research of the hotfix. I was curious and had a look: at least for TEC it's a tier 7 tech. just to remove the penalties. too little, too late, too expensive would be my first impression. to have any real effect, it would have to be some in the range of

from the defensive/ econ type of view: would it make sense to allow civic labs (also) research into defense techs? for me, there would be a synergy. a player who focuses more on economy and culture is maybe less agressive and rather seeks to consolidate and protect his holdings. these probably profit most from defensive tech and it does make some sense to give them slightly easier access to these things. so what I am saying is: good idea to allow both military and civic labs to research the d

I have some ideas well. espionage has been mentioned. my specific idea here would be bribing to ships and even planets. imagine you are economy heavy and your enemy sends a nice big fleet to your planets, your fleet is of course vastly inferior in terms of tech level und unit quality. but your good ol' economy produces enough money that you offer a big fat bribe to enemy ship commanders and ... oh, a portion of their fleet defects, some go neutral, others join your side even. now, THA

I fully agree with this suggestion, just in case I have not said so before. I don't think I even saw very many unlocked games in my online times. which is a pity, because it is or could be a very interesting a nice game mode. you know, all the trickery, the stealth, real life diplomacy, alliances. but it tends to get skewed and with this it would be a bit more in balance again.

just loaded my beta 2 game to check the changes: the pact descriptions really help now, good job. I also like how the military action was modfied, that made some difference! though I tend to agree that it's too much, you get a lot of friendliness for killing enemy's enemy. about the relationship % problem which I think I noted earlier. you took out the % and that is fine, but now you are technica

not much has been discussed about the research options, so I as I have some points I think it makes sense. 1. I'm not so sure whether it makes sense to have the envoys' abilities all sequential, especially for tec. why do you need to have settlers to research trade boost? it should require trading in general and the envoy and the could be it. at least for me I think this could allow to tailor them about more and set priorities how you want to go on with. 2. same thing perhaps

I also could not find any quantification of the pacts benefits. how much do I actually gain from a trade treaty or missile pact or whatever? for some, you can infer ie compare values before and after the pact, but, really that is cumbersome. though this would be an information that could go into the tooltips directly in the pact management. however, this is beta, so maybe you plan to do this anyway, I just wanted to bring it up to make sure it is noted.
Well jeez, that really disappoints me. I thought there would be things like giving units, giving tactical slots or logistical slots, giving planets, etc. which would have been way cool. The stuff you listed doesn't impress me in the least. Unless I hear something else that ends up changing my mind I don't plan to buy it.
tec has a pact that increases mutual supply capacity, another race one for tactical slot

yeah yeah, I kinda know, it's not my first beta with them, you know ;). just saying there hasn't really been much public info. maybe I shall do a more detailed run-down or preview if interest is there.

9 Replies 3,881 Views

actually, is there anything from stopping us beta testers from writing previews on the game? I mean no mag has covered this yet to my knowledge, so aside from what ppl can ascertain from these forum posts there is very little actual info out there. just a few lines of info about how this pack (currently) works: there are a series of pacts each race can research and conclude with other factions. these give various benefits from more trade income to tougher armour to weapons improvement

thanks for the answers, quite interesting stuf. however, it misses the point. these were examples of things that will not be clear to any newcomers once the game is released and that probably cannot all be packed into a tooltip. I'm not saying it's urgent, but with the way this is developing I think it really needs some kind of manual or rundown of how all these things work, bc figuring out all those little aspects will take time and effort. therefore, assistance would certainly be useful. I

it may be a little premature, but from the looks of it, the concepts introducted in diplomacy take a lot more to explain than the stuff from entrenchment. there it was basically 'rearch starbase, plop it down with constructor somewhere, upgrade as you please'. here, I can already see some detail questions regarding pacts and abilities and how everything is connected. some examples: what exactly is military strength? is it because I am too weak? or too strong? why is there some

first of all, while I only had little time and thus a quick glance at beta 2, everything seems pretty impressive and well done. I like it. now, for my point. from what I could tell, envoy ships have been turned into a totally peaceful/ economic unit. makes sense for diplomatic delegation. however, I think the allegiance sieging from beta 1 that the envoys had - while not perfect - was a pretty cool thing and I would be happy if it reappeared in some form. maybe another ship to do it,

the op does have a point. advent don't really use missile tech, vasari have no beam weapons that I can think of etc. so weapons are a bit tricky in this respect. but generally pretty good stuff.

meh, let's just leave it at that and enjoy the show. too much questioning of sci fi material isn't exaclty good for humor anyway and it's nice to just be entertained a little.

Why? because if it did it be pretty hard to call each other. Same thing with the SGs. The SGs itself is nothing more then a telephone. They all have the same dialing symbols. Just have to pattern them differently to get where you want to go. Same thing with the Pegasus. And now where the hell the Destiny is.
wha

uhm, I know that the symbols in the original starget movie represented star patterns, but was that ever corraborated in SG - 1 continuity? because, quite honestly, these patterns are only like this here, on earth, or pretty close by. so, assuming that the the symbols on all gates inside a galactice network are the same, then, even if some symbols represent star patterns on some planet it would just be pure luck to land on that specific one where they do make any sense.

yes, I had that idea too once, not sure whether I posted it. any case, I agree, if you are in well defined feeder position that would certainly make life easier. it would also be an interesting way to vassalise beaten enemies. reparation payments so to speak.

I like the basic idea and I read a bit on the first page about scepticism and its massive impact, so here is my take on things: I think allegiance is a good base for such a mechanism, but you would need more factors to influence it. culture can be one thing, another could be general level of development for the colony, military presence, defense grid, general state if your empire etc. I would appreciate one or two more major factors for internal politics, but I think that would lead t
