I would not mind at all donating $$ for a good skin. I'm still a newbie at skinning, but I do know how many countless hours can go into making a skin. And I can appreciate the authors work he/she put into it. I like the fact that skins here are free (aside from some premium suites offered), but if the skin is good enough and it really suits my needs, then I think the author deserves a little compensation. It's just like a shareware app. You try it, and if you like it, you buy it. I

when I use skin studio, instead of clicking on the part of the skin you want to edit, I open up psp and from there open the skin component I want to work on. I keep doing this for all parts I want to edit . This way you always have only one instance of psp open.

coriander I downloaded the skin to check it out. The button you are referring to seems to be a "keep on top" button. It keeps Your window on top of other windows, and it can be turned on and off.

Your log off and shut down dialog are skinned (to match your window blinds skin) only if the author of the WB skin skinned it. The shell style files you are referring to are the background pics for "my pictures" folder "my music" folder, toolbars etc. Again, they are only skinned if the WB author has skinned them. Does that help?
