Those emails to the patent office were pretty enlightening. Not sure why there's all this extra discussion around copyrights when it looks like all they got is the code, which is frankly worthless. This case is feeling more and more open and shut. Oh and I wonder when P&F stop paying the PR firm bills how many anti-Stardock posters vanish. Has that started happening yet given P&F's cry for $$ to support their legal bills? I guarantee you those guys have done little outside of discussi
Stardock is trying to impose a licensing requirement where previously none was required. Paul and Fred published a game titled "The Ur-Quan Masters", using all of the classic race names (Arilou, Orz, Pkunk, etc.). This was all done without any license from Accolade/Atari. Given that the contracts refer to the race names as "Reiche's Intellectual Property", it seems clear that this was intentional, not them flying under the radar. St

I like fun takes on realistic things. So we have the stars mapped out and roughly know what's in certain solar systems, but we don't know the specifics of any given planet. I think that's where you take liberties in what that planet is like given it's proximity to the star and any other factors you want to account for. I definitely enjoyed exploring worlds in any system I visited in SC2 - never knew what you were going to find (unless you were using a guide).

Ehhh, I'm not sure the blow them up part is very in-line with Starcon IMO. Asides from selling people as slaves to the Druuge (which you eventually get heavily penalized for), you generally don't do anything like that on a whim. Honestly, I'd change that to be a little more light-hearted than implying genocide for entertainment.

Honestly I'm shocked you've not just locked this entire thread as it does nothing productive for Stardock. I'm excited for the new game. I want that news... not more rehashing about some fan

This is awesome. I'm really stoked to play this game! I was out of the country on vacation, but if you still need folks, would love to play the game. I also don't live too far from the studio in MD if that makes any difference :D Edit: On second thought, I don't want to ruin the story for myself lol. I want to play that perfected experience >_

I can see why they would not want to use the engine from SC:O as then they would be dependent on two outside developers (Stardock and Oxide) But perhaps I don't fully understand the roll publishers often take in the development cycle of games.. I know SD pulled the plug on Servo because it seemed the development was not happening at

Useful physical items like that and lore books were some of the coolest things from back in the day. I still have my Pools of Radiance copyright translation wheel (which was really cool if you were a D&D nerd) and when I got them from GOG I printed out the manuals because they were just chock full of lore, little sketches, and other awesome little tidbit

I was really bored with those videos because he just read documents I could've read for an hour or two and doesn't even postulate an opinion, which I thought was the whole purpose of his videos.
What I mean is that many of the deep crevices of the game will likely require some out-of-game teamwork to figure out things. The main story lines and even most side stories are pretty reasonable. But we also want to have stories that require a great deal of subtle thinking. This isn't a game for people who want bread crumbs.
Ohhh I gotcha, cool. I can't remember having to deal with stuff like t

When you say it's massively single-player, what does that mean exactly? Do other players playing the game impact the universe you're playing in? Or are there specific events that are unique to the community at large and are impacted by the community's contribution to that effort? Super excited to see what we get end of summer! I'm slowly trying to burn through my massive backlog of games (working on Banner Saga 1 right now...) and it's slow going. I keep getting distracted by "old fai
Using no more than 5 descriptors, what do you think is the most appealing thing about Star Control? I'll start: 1. Non-Linear story - The ability to wander however you wanted, only limited by your fuel, was absolutely awesome. Giant quadrant of the galaxy with lots of mysteries! "Fast travel" you could "find" later and worked very seamlessly into the story/universe. 2. Great writing - The fact t

I have to admit I'm getting tired of seeing Elestan post here. I thought you made a separate thread to vent your anxiety over UQM by grasping after everything and anything that assuages your fears? I don't really know what your involvement is with UQM, but let me say this: UQM was never yours or anyone else's in that fan community. It has always been something that existed at the suffrage of the trademark holder. Whatever benefits you see yourself deriving from the project are nonexistent. If
One thing that someone brought to my attention: The sheer arrogance to suggest that Galactic Civilizations "borrowed heavily" from Star Control II. The two games are nothing alike. For guys who made a stink about the accurate statement that they did not create the Star Control trademark (Accolade did) they sure have no problem trying to take credit for other people's work imo.
@Starkillr: Agreed. My opinion on these things is well known. For instance, we bid on the Master of Orion IP too. If we had got it, you can bet that we would have developed a Master of Orion game that was a natural evolution of Master of Orion II. I am one of the die hard fans of Star Control. But I've now had 4 years of talking to fans and the % of them who actually finished it is tiny.&nb

Honestly my expectation is that Star Control: Origins will be in the same style as the original series. Same great story, adventure, quirky dialogue, great gameplay, amazing music, and good graphics. Sounds like once the drama gets sorted, we can have a return of the races we remember from SC2 that will have the same personalities as before, but in a new storyline (if I've understood previous posts around where the lines get drawn on what Stardock believes they'll be able to use). That to me
