Elemental currently displays every model a unit group has on one tile on the world map. The models, however, mostly don't scale when grouped up - this results to situations like four dragons overlapping, and units crowded so much that it is really difficult to make out what the unit composition is unless you click it anyway. Other fantasy TBS games resolve to single-model representations coupled with a number describing the amount of units of that particular model. This may lose out o

The main reason why I prefer a great sandbox experience is the fact that the sandbox in Elemental really plays like a story - you start with a custom world with the open book telling you how it's been devastated and it is up to the sovereigns to make it flourish yet again. And then you have the sovereigns that start the kingdoms and empires, building cities, making treaties, trading, waging wars, with heroes in-between questing and killing monsters. Dynasties are founded, children are born, a
I'm not sure how they will work out. I'm writing Book 2 and 3 myself and the tools are somewhat more powerful now than when Book 1 was made. The campaigns weren't really designed to be a major feature of the game so it really depends on what the community is looking for.
Sandbox is where this game is, so I hope this is where the primary effort will be focused. Meaningful campaigns with good story would
To all the CIV fans here - good for you. I have tremendously enjoyed the original Civ back in the day on my then 286, and skipped the rest up until Civ IV, which I got this year with all the addons. I have only played one full game of Civ IV (base game) on a small world, and halfway through it started to be really tedious for me. The end game really dragged, so I just researched all the tech needed for space victory to be done with it as soon as possible. I don't know, but for me

And bought this. I also had my first crash to desktop today, approx. after 45 minutes of play. I had other candidates as well - the excellent Battlefield Academy, and the great Decisive Campaigns: The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris. Those are both finished strategy games of great quality. But I am willing to gamble my money on Stardock's reputation and their promise that this game will get better, and the kinks will be ironed out. (And the performance will get b
My apologies - but your original message didn't explain your reaction to any of the videos, simply that you didn't like it and that you were re-thinking your purchase, which at the time felt troll-ish. If you had gone on to take the time to explain your position without making people ask you, your behavior might have not been mis-interpreted. As to your specific arguments, the RPG aspects seemed pretty light to me, in the e
Oh no, don't feed the trolls.
Says a troll. I was voicing my subjective opinion of the beta based on the two videos, just like there are others who are genuinely excited by it. Grow up.
Well, what didn't you like?
Feels just way too much RPG and too little strategy for my taste. I guess I'll wait for the demo to try the game out first. EDIT: I have to say that even the beta has a certain charm only the old and innovative games - Dungeon Keeper, Populous, Heroes of Might and Magic II - had. Still, it appears to be something else than I'm looking for at the moment.
Hmm. I was looking forward to Elemental, but I have to say, these two videos left me thoroughly unimpressed. I know it's not the end product and that not everything that's going to be in the game has been shown, but still - what I saw I didn't particularly like. Maybe it is time to re-evaluate my purchase decision.
Thanks for clearing that up, Tridus! [e digicons][/e]

Will there be more open slots for Beta 3 if b2 is closed?
You will most likely get into Beta 2, which should start soon, as discussed in the beginning of the thread. There will be no Beta 3, as any subsequent betas will be merged with Beta 2 as continuous updates, from what I've read. (So
Yep, Peace Phoenix is indeed right. Citing the almighty "Elemental for Dummies" thread, section on pre-orders: The way that the system works is that you need a serial key registered in order to download. That's how people with it (be it preorder or final) are distinguished from those without. If you have an uncharged preorder, it's not even linked to your Impulse account in any way yet, it's just queued up in sales. When the beta is opened, all pending preordeers are charged throu

I am fully counting on it - I am not expecting a polished experience, nor even fun at this point of the development process. I pre-ordered simply to commit money to the game early on while I still have them (because otherwise they might end up being spent on something else). [e digicons]:-"[/e]
Thank you kind sir, that is good news for me (and bad news for my poor student wallet)!
G'day, do we know/can someone from the dev team tell what date will Stardock start charging credit cards for the upcoming beta 2? I have a couple of wargames on my list and if beta 2 is still at least two weeks away, I could spend some money before Stardock starts charging. [e digicons]:P[/e]
No, it isn't. First, your box will likely arrive damaged, if it has to be delivered anywhere else than the US. Second, you get the manual in PDF if you buy the download version, so you're not missing out on anything. Third, you can have the game in windowed mode and the manual open in the background. The box will feel nice in the beginning, but over time will become just a nuisance since you apparently have enough bandwidth to install through Impulse, which is much

I loved them. I still love them. The games were perfect in every aspect - from story, hand-drawn, perfectly narrated cutscenes, to absolutely amazing music and, most important of all, perfect gaming experience. It is the only strategy game that has given us true 3D movement that actually makes sense from a tactical/gameplay perspective. The graphics are pure style, even today. I could go on about this game whole evening. It is a work of art.
It's interesting how independent developers pumping out great games on shoestring budget, like Braid, World of Goo, Machinarium and others, are thriving. Games that, unlike most of the production of the big names in the industry, can be considered true art. It's also interesting how these games provide genuinely interesting and FUN gameplay without reiterating the same concepts ad infinitum. Speaking of independent developers (the bigger ones), Stardock isn't doin

Actually, this made my day when I read it. Coupled with the lack of any real, further information and system requirements, I went on and happily spent my money on Elemental instead.
