Stargates: I like the general idea, you would have to be careful how you implement it. Perhaps make them another type of starbase built by a construtor. Make them very expensive (with an increase in cost for each additional base built just like the other bases) and require a high tech advancement would be my suggestion. I would also have the distance the base is from any particular foriegn power affect your relations in a negative manner. No one wants military starbases of a

I think its beacues you are americans a very excitable bunch of gun totting red necks. Chill be european like myself we have cheese and culture. I think it is rather strange to offer an insult to an entire country of vastly different individuals and then tell them to calm down. I have lived in the southern US my entire life and
After you have built the starbase, move the ships on top of it and do not fleet them. Any attacker must defeat all the ships before it can attack the starbase. Why don't you fleet them? Guarding your bases/resource mines with fleets is a good idea, but in my games there are usually too many resources to protect them all, especially in the early game. When the assasination event happens, spawning little enemy crap ships, my unprotecte
Obviously, the Terrans wanted you to go AROUND their territory. AROUND. AROUND. . . yes, it will take months, but they have their pride to consider. Alternatively, you could have sold them some ships instead, I guess. . . I mean, heck, even I'd be a bit leery of my friends if they started marching troop
This will only work if you have reasonably competative ships, so if you are challenging yourself with a difficulty level well beyond your comfort zone then your ships will be as about as effective as the Enterprise is against the Borg! True, but if you do not have competitive ships, your starbases (even fully moduled) aren't going to be any more effective and will die anyway. Also I have only worked my way up to challenging so far. I have on
If you do not fleet them then the enemy must attack them individually, using up its movement allowance to take out one ship at a time. This can buy you a turn or two to get an actual fleet of attack ships to the scene. If your ships are significanly stronger than your opponents this can actually be more effective than fleeting them.(at least in my experience)
After you have built the starbase, move the ships on top of it and do not fleet them. Any attacker must defeat all the ships before it can attack the starbase. this is no longer true. the attacker goes after the strongest first be it the base, a ship or a fleet at least in dl. according to kyro True, but if you don't research or implement the defenses and attacks for the starbases, leaving them unarmed, the ship
Yeah, sometimes you have to wonder about those wacky aleins. Playing a custom race on challenging, the Terrans (and 3 other races) asked me to help them take out the Dregin who were getting to big for the Terrans to handle. So, being the nice little Deathgerbil I proceeded to move my attack fleets into Dregin space and declared war on them. Thing was, I had to go through Terran space to do so, to which the Terrans responded with that bit about "Massing your fleets near our space, we know what y
Very true, but I have been able to do this by a sneaky bit of strategy. I did this in the last couple of games I played on challenging and it seemed to work just fine. First get several of your ships to the resource as soon as you can. After you have built the starbase, move the ships on top of it and do not fleet them. Any attacker must defeat all the ships before it can attack the starbase. This also means you do not have to build any of the battle stations/weapons/defenses for the starbase
Nice work, looks like it took you some time to put it together. One comment on the Dark Avatar combat system. I may have missed it, sorry if I did, but under the new combat in Dark Avatar aren't weapon mounts targeted individualy ? I believe this to be the case. If this is true then the number of mounts you can place on your hull can make a big difference in performance. Kind of muddled here but this is what I am trying to get at, If you are facing an enemy that fleets it ships you
