So in reality Iraq was involved with ALL THREE types of weapons of mass destruction.
Yes taltamir, you're absolutely right. Iraq did pursue all three types of WMD's. This, I have never, ever disputed. In fact the Center for Disease control and State Dept. of the U.S authorized anthrax and other goodies to be sent to Iraq. However, Iraq gave up the last efforts to pursue any of these in the mid to late 90's. By the time of the invasion in 2003, all that rema
Judging from the liberals' conviction that Saddam Hussein was a staunch US ally
No, no, and no. Again, show me where I've said he was a "staunch" ally? You keep missing the point, as long as his actions were convenient to us, we turned a blind eye to his indiscretions. The moment that convenience and the benefits it provides dry up, then we launch a crusade of the good guy swooping in to take out the bad guy!
It's funny, a liberal says "Where are the WND's, we don't see them". But when asked to produce unseen US weapons, "They were there a minute ago". How delightfully hypocritical. You cannot argue or enlighten people that think this way. It has to be genetic.
Nitro, I never said that Iraq -never- had any WMD's. I believed the lies we were fed and was pro-invasion. It turns out that Iraq really did get rid of almost all of their non-conventional weapons, with a
When you say "did what we wanted", are you referring to the time he financed terrorism against Israel, threatened Kuwait and Saudi-Arabia, kept Iraq solidly on the side of the Soviet Union, and bought weapons from France, the Soviet Union, and China?
No, we didn't give two rips about that either. What I'm talking about is the real reason why most wars are fought- economics. There was a point, during the early to mid 80's, in which it looked like Saddam was going to open
It's obvious that your own knowledge if Iraq's history is severely wanting
Apparently. But so too is it severely wanting for the British and seemingly nonexistent for the U.S administration that went in guns blazing in 2003. Had they paid more attention to history, I doubt the British would have been so keen to repeat imperial misadventures in both Iraq and Afghanistan. (The british had large military forces in both countries over a century ago, and i
but his comments pointed towards the idea that Cuba's Govt is not as bad as we are lead to believe whn to this date it still is, it's just not as violent as before.
Well, please provide your evidence for this Charles!
It would force countries like the US to become more directly involved and Fidel does not want that. But you can't say that just because they get enough to survive, that this is OK. They deserve the same chances we have here. It's clear that
That's a lie.
Why is it a lie? His career pretty much started in earnest with the overthrow of Qassim in 1963. Throughout the 60's and 70's he was seen as an anti-communist by the CIA, therefore worthy of their support. Again, so long as he acted in what were considered our interests, we didn't give one hoot that he was a monster.
However, I have actually seen (that's the part you don't get) evidence for his crimes, which means the character witness
Oh, for those that might be interested, Sprint has the only fiber-optic network outside of the Government. Fiber-optics are immune to EMP. So you people that wish to have phone service after an attack may want to switch phone companies.
Sorry Paladin, but no dice there either. While the light traveling through the fiber is indeed imune, that fiber ultimately terminates to a device that then has to turn the light back into an electrical signal. This box would get fried, a
Charles, you make good points. I will respond to them in turn-
I'm not too sure that a short trip to a country who's tourist industry caters to outsiders and their money would show the evils that have the people of Cuba willing to risk life and limb on makeshift boats trying to reach American soil.

I can only imagine you were not in the rough areas of Cuba
First off, it's pretty hard to hide these evils for a very simple reason. Cuba is a sm
Without the Shah the Soviet-Union would have been overrun by Germany
This does not excuse the oppression he carried out on his people later on.
And that is still a lie. He never was the "golden boy" of the US and other western powers.
Sure he was. He practically started his career in the employ of the CIA. As long as he was useful, he was in their good graces. Invade Iran and spark a war in which over 1 million were killed? No pro
I just returned from a trip to Cuba not too long ago. It's a beautiful country with all of the sorrows and triumphs of a small island nation. Is it a utopian paradise? Not by a long shot. But it ain't half bad either. If anything, it was far more relaxed than I thought it would be. I saw plenty of the country and got out and about with no difficulties or restrictions. I had a bit of trouble seeing the "evil communist" regime that we've been indoctrinate

Havanah is very nice this time of year though :)
people think like you

I find you as trustworthy as any other person with your beliefs.
Well well, aren't we Mr. Stereotype today! Hello Fellow Joeusers. I'm going to be offline for awhile, so I thought I'd leave you with a rather interesting article from one of my favorite sites which I highly encourage you all to go and check out; http://www.truthdig.com/ I see that Obama's been in office for what, 3 months? And, apparently everything is his fault. As I've said earlier, many times, I was pro-Bush for the first year of his presidency until I realized what a tool he
Leauki, aeortar and Daiwa you have my apologies. I have been offline for the last few days and have missed the most recent discourse and will be offline again for another week and a half starting tomorrow (going to Cuba and -not- taking the laptop) so let me add my two cents: I see the classic "left vs right" pissing contest breaking out here. Come on guys. You can do better than this. The original purpose of the article posted has nothing to do with the libera
All failed to their great surprise and the professor told them that socialism would ultimately fail because the harder to succeed the greater the reward but when a government takes all the reward away; no one will try or succeed.
An old, and ultimately obsolete argument. As the most recent incarnation of the Roman Empire collapses and the visigoths descend on Washington (which is happening today in economic and geopolitical terms) it is still entertaining to see people a
1. It is unrelated to the discussion here, so how can it be your point?
Umm, no. If you go and read through the posts, it is where the discussion has evolved to.
2. You admit that saddam is evil and had to be removed, but bemoan the united states only doing so for selfish reasons and not removing other evil dictators (because there is no monetary reward for doing so). So from that one must draw that the united states SHOULD have: hit iraq sooner, hit iraq h
Nobody asked him to invade Iran.
This is a very good point- but, when he invaded Iran we helped him, even gave him chemical and biological weapons as well as intel. So, Saddam invades Iran (in a war in which hundreds of thousands or more died) and he's a good guy that we help out. Then, he invades Kuwait, and suddenly he's a bad, bad man who's overstepped his bounds and MUST be dealt with right away! See what I'm getting at Nitro- so long as it benefit
Arguing with Artysim is like arguing with creationists... no wait, I think the creationists are more coherant and make more sense.
Look, here's my main point- IF Saddam had opened up his economy just like Saudi did, or IF his war against Iran had been more succesful, he would still be in power today, there would be no sanctions against him and he'd probably be lauded as a significant ally. This is not theoretical, but has proven itself over and over ag
The Sunni groups never did have to worry about fighting US forces. You don't know the reality on the ground in Iraq.
I understand. So, because you visited mostly the northern regions as a tourist for (two weeks?) several years after the invasion clearly you are the expert. I bow to your vastly superiour knowledge! Yes, the hardcore Saddam supporters were centered around Tikrit but there were many other groups that decided to take up arms as well. The re

Sorry to hear this as well.... thankfully, the internets are easily navigable waters. Will follow your work at your new diggs.
I do agree in allowing stem-cell research, + 1 Especially considering that now viable techniques have been discovered which do not require tissue from fetuses. Another fun one you might want to post would be this question; Do you agree that the age of the earth is somewhere on the order of 4.5 billion years old and homo sapiens (modern day humans) originated somewhere on the order of 150,000 to 200,000 years ago? (+1 for yes -1 for no)
I know. It's like "Israel is evil, look everyone says so, hence Israel must be evil. No I have never been there or met an Israeli and I certainly don't care about history much.".
I was wondering when Israel would somehow get dragged into all of this. The topic of Israel, and whether it is evil or not, is not part of what Mr. Paul was talking about (if you like I can post an article with the speech of one of my other favorite politicians, Mr. Galloway from the U.K)<
The incident happened months and months ago. At what point does he man up and stop sucking up? While I am not above enjoying being treated like a VIP or something, I really don't respect sucking up. It's just too damn phony. The guy needs to let it go, be a man, and move on. Honestly I'd respect him more if he'd just act pissed off at me and ignore me. At least that would be honest. I got the guy in trouble so I know he must dislike me.
Maybe he's trying to kill you
