Uninstalled and deleted everything, with still the same result. Turned out the german language was in the (campaign-) save games (huh?). Started a new campaign, and everything is as it should be now. Thanks again for the help.
This would be a symptom of save games using the files/version they are started with; a common example of this is not being able to insert new ships into an active game. Glad you found
I found Galactic Civilizaiont II in August. I love it, wife hates it. I just purchased the expansion pack with the digital download. How do I get the v2.0 update? I have looked on SDC and Impulse with no luck.
2.0 isn't out yet, although there's a Twilight beta up on Impulse, 1.99rc (which is not on SDC, but 2.0 will be). In addition, it's mostly updates to Twilight, with some things backported to Dark Avatar. EDIT: Loo

Combat model changed in DA. Important things to note are as follows: All ships fire at least the first round in a combat now, even if they're destroyed in the first hit. Each weapon on a ship fires once per round of combat. Tie rule added; if both ships/fleets destroy each other after 50 (ship) or 300 (fleet) rounds of combat, the ship/fleet with the highest attack survives with 1 hp. Given the above, your best bet would seem to be a fleet full of fighters-more

@EF Thank you, for being gracious in "defeat". But it's really not about right or wrong, or who wins or loses. You might have noticed I've been wrong on a few things myself around this forum. If I might change the subject momentarily: Economics .
