If you had 10 points to distribute between beauty and intelligence (not wisdom), how would you distribute it? I'm probably more along the lines of 7 intelligence, 3 beauty. Well, to be perfectly honest, I think that I got ripped off and only got 8 points and well, let's just say 7 got put onto intelligence.. But I think I would split mine 6 to 4. Each year I find that intelligence isn't all it's cracked up to be. Wisdom doesn't necessarily take high intelligence, just effici

Let's see... I had a rather unpleasant job working as a proof machine operator. That takes some explainig. When you get your canceled checks back, you'll notice that at the bottom there is some computery looking type on them that has the amount of the check and your bank number. When you pay for something, your hand written chicken scratch doesn't magically go into computer. It has to be fed into a sorting machine. But before it can do that, someone or somethi
WinCustomize is not a Stardock support forum. irc.stardock.com for IRC. (#stardock). Or the Stardock news groups. news://news.stardock.com. Good luck!
Anyone here ever play Counterstrike? We actually have a server - cs.stardock.net with punkbuster installed (www.punkbuster.com). Who here plays that game? (I do!)
Well, on other sites they have topics like "What song as you listening to" Here, it's "how many bunyons do you have?"
Jesh has some good ideas but to answer them: 1) Banners - they don't pay. They're a waste. 2) Mirror sites - lots of maintainence and pain. Don't really solve the problem. Look at the volatility (sp) of skin sites as is. Imagine how volatile of mirros would be. Who wants that headache? 3) Third party apps aren't sucking the bandwidth. It's the Stardock apps doing it. In fact, DesktopX uses more bandwidth here than all the third party sections combined. Plus, this sit
Paxx, already done that. If you download more than 1 meg, you have to create an account. That's one of the reasons why we're getting 30,000 to 40,000 new accounts each month now (by the end of this year, we'll have more accounts than skinz.org had when it went down). But with a 1 meg limit, at least new casual users can come on and grab something real quick without having to create an account. And I totally agree with Paxx's statement. Everyone's seen how even the most awful skin or t
Frogboy has Admin access. Admin means work. I don't like work. When I'm at home, I'm on as Draginol. Meaning, no admin access. No work. Site is quicker (admin options don't get displayed). Same guy, just different accounts. Frogboy/Draginol
As long as you don't answer back to yourself.
It's an incredible looking site.
A stinging but appropriate parody is available at National Review. It points out how different the world might be today had our leaders in 1941 behaved like our leaders today seem to behave.
Don't feel bad Snowman. Afterall, if this website were trying to force every user to pay money we'd deserved to be flamed. It's people like you and your vigilance that keeps websites honest and good. Draginol (aka Frogboy at home).
What's GRC?
Good questions Gorman. Consider this: 1) If having a skin site were a good marketing vehicle, then every application would have its own skin site. NeXTStart and Hoverdesk, for instance, rely on third party sites. If WinCustomize ceased to exist, SD could just point to the other skin sites. 2) Even if SD didn't point to other skin sites, it could simply have a database of say 35 "good" skins/themes that users could get and then sell skin packs for people who wanted
The latter. There will eventually be something like: IF wcUser has downloaded > 5 megabytes this month AND wcUser has not registered SD software AND wcUser has not bought a CD or shirt or anything else THEN keep them from downloading more stuff until next month. Otherwise, the site becomes excrutiatingly slow for everyone.
Just curious, how many of you ever used BBSes? If so, what was your first experience with one? I started out using a BBS system called C-net 10.0 on the C-64. Back then, it was 1 computer, one phone line, one person on the BBS at a time. hard to imagine that now with 300+ people on here at once (when the server ain't crashed anyway!!).
So what do you guys think XP is going to do for skinning? I think it's the best thing that could happen. First off, it will start to get people off of Windows 9x/ME which means developers don't have to focus working around bizarre Windows bugs as much. If WindowBlinds 3 didn't have to run on Win9x/ME, it would be shipping already for instance. XP also introduces people to the idea of a skinnable UI since you can switch between classic and Luna. An dpeople are already expecting
For those of you who are married, what would you list as the most important things in a successful marriage? For me, I would list it as 3 particular things equally balanced: Love (the passion, the romance, the sex, etc.). Friendship (the act of simply liking to hang out with that person). and Compatibility (being married means having a roommate which can be a challenge on its own). What do you guys think?
I don't know for sure what you mean but I've enjoyed your submissions.
Quiet Tarkus or I'll take away your cane! My theory is that DeviantArt has poetry and speaking from personal experience, active poets tend to be 16 through 21 in age because it's the "coming of age" time frame. I'm in an interesting discussion there about relationships and it's always interesting to hear an 18 year old speak of undying love (or eternal anything for that matter). When I was
Gibson is paranoid. It's no different than Linux or Mac OS X in this area.
That's it: OBEY: http://www.hypnotoad.org
As I surf to my various favorite websites, I've noticed two things: Either: A) They (the websites) are trying various new ways to make money (paypal, selling mugs, hats, etc.). or B) They're run by old "new economy" companies that are slowly going under (or fast in VA Linux's case). Banner ads now bring in about $.15 per CPM for most sites. And it costs about a megabit of bandwidth to get a million page views. A megabit costs around $500 to $1000.
Empire Earth beta right now. Don't think it'll be out this year though.
