Fobok, are you complaining that the AI outsmarted you??? lol. That's GOOD AI programming! lol, the cpu totally screwed u over and backstabbed you
I wouldn't mind being outsmarted, but being outsmarted using abilities I can't use in return? I can't call up an AI and tell them to go attack someone else (at least not until we're allies, which I can't seem to actually make it to because of stuff like this) and backstab them, yet they can do it to me.
Except when you don't CARE if you lose the ships, and your only goal is to destroy the target. This isn't exactly an uncommon tactic. But you guys seem to think it shouldn't be in the game?
Really, I have no problem with suicidal attacks. But, at least make them varied, and not the same thing over and over and over and over again. A proper suicidal attack might be sending siege frigates along with a few other ships to distract the defenses while the siege frigates do thei
I wouldn't have a problem with the missions except for two issues: 1. They're 90% 'destroy so many of this'. What if I want to play economically? In battle I can soften the enemy because of pirates, but these missions make me go out myself before I'm necessarily ready. There's a single trade mission to start diplomacy off, then it's all attacking other AIs. 2. The AI seems to use them to distract me. I finally decide to do a mission, get them up to 30%... cool, ok. I get anoth
Ok, to those of you who say siege rushes are a valid tactic... what, then, makes this game any different from any other RTS game and their rushes? Spamming any single type of unit makes for a boring game. Battles in this game should be about combined arms, not sending one single ship type in in vast numbers. And, those saying to stop the attacks before they reach their target: How? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm asking as a new player that just can't figure it out. I've intercepted fleet
I started, yesterday, despising the pirates, until I realized they allowed me to work on my economy more than ships, if I can win the bidding wars. Seeing as I'm more of a peaceful/defensive 4X player, I really like that. And, I have to admit... having a massive pirate fleet arrive while I'm fighting a massive defensive battle against one of the AI... it made for one heck of a light show. My fleet may have been wiped out, but I loved it. Now, if the mission system could be impr
I just thought I should note, I had my game set at easy difficulty. One enemy was set with the fortification AI, and the other with the researching AI. It may be an aspect of the difficulty level/personality.
Yeah, one of the AIs in the game I was playing most recently had a huge fleet of siege frigates flying all over the place. They ignored my colony frigates, though, so I just positioned one at each planet. They'd destroy the colony, it'd rebuild automatically, but I agree this is too much.
And... I can't remember where I saw it, but I saw that those files are supposed to go up sometime tomorrow. I'm looking forward to the CD most I think, I love the music in this game.
Totally agreed. I haven't tried multiplayer yet, but I've been playing singleplayer on and off (newbie frustrations kick in every now and then) for about 7 hours. Other than the learning curve, my only complaint has to be that the AI diplomacy seems to involve mostly killing other ships or stations. Everything else I've just been loving. Fantastic game.
I was mainly trying to point out that asking for a ship editor is not the same thing as asking for a 3d modelling program, most of which cost money to buy and training to use. Otherwise, GalCiv2 would only be playable by 3D artists.
However, why not have an out-of-game designer application? 3D StudioMax Cinema 4D
Any options you don't have to be rich to afford? ;) (3D Studio MAX I was able to find only one mention of a price anywhere, and that was second-hand claiming $3000, and Cinema 4D is $1795. Not to mention the books or training in 3D modeling required for either.)
They've said, in many places, that the game will be available in the late afternoon on Monday, EST. The site's timer just uses your system clock to count down to midnight, and doesn't have any relation to the time of release.
I'm guessing 13 hours. 20 hours would be 11pm Eastern and no way they'll be releasing that late.
They're talking about when it's first going up, Chang. Once it's up, it'll be up 24/7.
I have to say, I loved Rebellion too. Maybe if my experience in 4X at the time had extended beyond VGA Planets I might not have, but as it was I played it for quite some time.
AI AI AI!!!! focus on the AI
Right now, any suggestions are for post-release updates, since obviously it's too late to change anything for release. And, no suggestions about the AI can be made until people actually try out the release AI.
I agree. I see micro as the inane ability to click faster than someone else, instead of intelligently managing units in combat, though this is bound to disagree with someone else I don't like clickfests, I like intelligence - if the ability to manage units in battle in an intelligent manner is what is required, I support
You get a "digital copy" of the CD with the digital download only version. Of the Music CD? Something tells me I doubt that.
Frogboy says so here: [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=402&aid=174282"]Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard[/link]
For users who are doing download only, the Collector's Edition is only $44.95 but they will still be able to get the music CD (we'll be providing it as a digital download shortly after release) and PDF versions of the other materials (which we will also be providing after release).
I'm just wondering, does this go for TGN pre-orders as well?
Will those replays still work on the release version? I'm planning on preordering with tokens, but by the time my cheque comes in the game will only be 4 days away and seems kind of pointless to download beta 4 for just 4 days.
I'm a 4X addict. I only recently discovered GalCiv2, (I plan to actually buy the gold edition using my other 5 tokens when I pre-order Sins... as soon as my cheque comes), and don't want to miss out on this one too. I'll most definitely get it.
Company of Heroes has a form of battle chatter as well, though obviously different than a space-based game would have. It helps, though, giving audio clues to what's happening.
Diplomacy doesn't really work in public games. You get things like 3 friends joining a 5 player game and stomping the other 2 players. Bad experiences like that lead people to favoring locked teams. Works well if you are playing with people you know, though.
Oh, yeah, I figu
In addition to TFL's question, (which I was just logging on to ask, actually), I've been wondering about diplomacy in single-player. One of the major attractions to me in 4X games has been diplomacy. I like making allies and turning them against my enemies, and even going for a diplomatic win when it's possible. How advanced will diplomacy with the AI be in Sins?
