Brad, don't let it deter you from making more good game. Despite some minor inconveniences, I still find the game extremely enjoyable. I believe, i would do the same or even worse if i were sleep depraved. Even more so, I understand how you feel as I am a developer myself. Thanks for the good work done by you and your team.

Perhaps those lowly peasants are only meant to be canon fodder... Actually it is sort of similar to Total War with its un-upgradeable units
Perhaps create a new allegiance 'Republic' ?
