If it is indeed a memory failure, you can use memtes86 to test which RAM module is the faulty one (it seems i have freeware tool for every problem [e digicons]:P[/e] ), the thing is, that must be burned to a cd and booted with it. Also there are brand new Nvidia drivers (185.20) (not yet available from nvidia's website, so use at your own risk), with somet

I always make a point of completing two of each AI's missions (if there are four or less AI's), so i can get ceasy-fire and trade treaties, that gives me time to build up my empire and fleet, and decide who do i want to annihilate first. Also, if i mix AI's of different difficulties, i set harder ai's on warm colors (red and orange), so i know who are the biggest threats.

I was thinking of overheating, but that should crash other games quite frequently too, checking the GPU temperature couldn't hurt, though, i use the free GpuZ for that. And there is a newer driver version available, the 180.84. It should increase performance, but may not solve the problem at hand. Other reasons could be some background programs or services, but in my experience they mainly ca

"Locks keep honest people honest" has some truth in it, there is a finnish proverb "opportunity makes a thief" (semi-accurate translation). In other words there are opportunists, if there is an opportunity to get something for nothing with little risk of getting caught, they will take it. You lock your door when you leave the house not because of burglars but opportunists; burglars are determined enough to break the door, opportunist are not. This is what piracy is about, many of the

Freelancer was fun, and the nomad ships and system were amazing. My reaction coming upon the dyson sphere was "WTF?! A wall in space?" Great game, but the downsides were that you couldn't get capital ships (without mods), nor use a joystick. Following this discussion, i re-installed X3. Getting into the ship gave that same overpowering feeling as the first time, it's as if you were just learning to read, and the teacher gives the "Lord of the Rings" - trilogy for readin

There are the freeware BattleCruiser games, but i didn't like them personally. A note on X3: you start with simple fighter, but you can buy and pilot capital ships eventually. I played dozens of hours of X3: reunion, but only got to a corvette. The thing is, you must trade and create factories to ever have enough to buy those ships. X3 veterans have said that the focus is on economy rather than fighting, but i hear the bigger battles on kha'ak and xenon sectors are quite intensi

1. No, it's suppposed to be a starbase, not a giant supership (though that would be cool too). 2. Yes, cover the whole gravwell on any planet (not stars), but not as powerfull as the dedicated one. 3. Yes. 4. No, but upgrades could be more powerfull. 5. No, it has been suggested since the original sins beta, but now we have starbases to do that. 6. For TEC only, possibly as an upgrade, yes. Otherwise, no. 7. No, the individual s

I once installed Vista on my old machine (2.8GHz Celeron, 1GB, x1550), and the machine was indeed almost unusable, trying to play The Witcher for example was impossible. Now that i have a beefier system (2.6 GHz C2D, 2GB, 9600GT) Vista and games run perfectly (except Crysis, Warhead on the other hand..). I have xp installed on a second harddrive, but during the 6 or so monthes i have used Vista, i've only booted it three times, and only used it for 10 minutes before started missing Vista's fe

Try shutting down the mouse software before running sins. I use Logitech stuff, and noticed that SetPoint causes problems with some games.

I've too got tons of achievements with the beta, are you sure you should have gotten some? BTW I wonder if, achievements could be made useful somehow like in Mass Effect, instead of just bragging rights? I guess that goes for modders, though. And i guess it could screw up multiplayer.

I played "System of war", the final AI controlled two outlying systems, and whole central system with the excption of two of my planets (I had the rest). During the time it took for me to eradicate all of it's colonies (game lasted 12 hours), it managed to launch two serious attacks, and the only planet it tried to defend was it's homeworld [e digicons][/e] , there were plenty of starbases, but most of them were unupgraded. plenty of mines too, which i got tired of clearing with

I haven't played with Ogarev's yet, but i didn't even try to micro the Adjudicators, i just parked them next to the starbase, and let them hit what they want, still it seemed that bombers did more damage. BTW, i wonder if IC has unique speech coming for the Ogarev and Adjudicator?

That reminds me of an old Commodore 64 game: "Power At Sea" . You commanded a fleet with your mission being taking over four japanese bases. It had aircraft combat, and you occasionally had to destroy japanese ships with deck guns. I was hoping someone would make a game like that on modern systems, i should look this up.

I had that back when i was using Radeon 9250, but that card was DirectX 8.1 with only a SM 1.1 support (IIRC), so it shouldn't be the same problem with that card. I've since used Radeon 9600, Radeon x1550, and currently Geforce 9600GT and none of them have had that problem.

I agree, the starbase should be "integrated" to the planet it is orbiting. A simple solution would be to add "Select Starbase" button to the planet UI. Currently, it seems, starbases are considered as ships, making the game treat them as orbital structures or planet upgrades would allow controlling them from the planet UI, but this might not work for vasari, since their starbases are essentially ships. BTW, i finshed a large game last night, and spotting an enem

I've been using AVG 7.5 before that i used Anti-Vir. Both are free, and never let through anything. If you don't mind paying F-Secure Anti virus is near fool-proof, but it also consumes insane amounts of resources.
