Desert. Lots of civic slots, good crystal and a decent cash generating population if you're Advent. (And I'm nearly always Advent)

Advent, of course. What's not to like about a race "even more twisted and powerful than in the stories told to frighten us as children". Besides, I love it when people (TEC) pay the price for their own intolerance. C'mon the TEC storyteller is hating a lot more on the avenging Advent than on the enslaving alien invaders who just showed up and started killing people for no good reason. (From a non-Vasari point of view, natch.) [telepathy]You will join the unity, we have
One small thing I would like is to be able to give capital ships longer names. Honestly, the character limit for ships right now is tiny. I'm not asking to be able to write a book in there, it's just that having to cut down "Well of Midnight" to "Well of Night" just to fit is kind of restricting! Likewise, I don't think "Talon of Darkness", "Destroyer of Light" or "Nightmare Child" are too much to ask. And yes I do give my ships rather nasty (and overly pompous) n
i'm still trying to figure out why we make cars have increasingly heavy frames to resist crashes from other really heavy cars rather than just making everything out of lighter materialscost?
I think that would be "profit margin". You earn more on selling people really expensive big cars than small cheap ones. Sure production costs are bigger too, but a 10% profit margin on $100 is still ten times as big in real cash as a 10% profit margin on $10. And "real cash"
If my ISP started throwing excrement like that, I'd switch faster than you can say something that takes a really short time to say.
And that is what industry-wide agreements are for. (aka "trust" or "cartel", which is supposed to be illegal, but big companies are getting away with it more and more) If everybody does it, you have nowhere to go. And all the companies get to make more cash for less investment. Everybody (who matters) is happy!
I think he means allegiance (thats what it's called right?), the part where worlds that are far away from your capital produce less. You know, 100% (110 in culture) for your capital, 90% max for the next nearest etc. I think he doesn't like the fact that your outer worlds are minimally productive compare to the ones near home.
Does anyone know who is chasing the Vasari?
The Dread Lords. :-p
My reactions on seeing the gameplay trailer: 1. Hmm, looks pretty similar to D2 (graphics somewhat unimpressive, bit cartoony) 2. God, that looks like it's fun! Needless to say, item 2 outweighs item 1 by a significant margin. Also, the emphasis seems to be on having swarms of standard gribblies and massive bosses. Seems like an excellent way for the player to feel powerful with their skills, and be suitably impressed by the head baddies. I like it!
Tec officer: "We could NOT coexist..."Well, true. Its kind of hard for a society of non-telepaths to coexist with one of telepaths. Forget star trek utopian non-solutions - if there is a person who can literally change your mind on the loose, you can banish them, or you can be ruled by them and believe it was your own idea to do so.
Option 3: Become a telepath yourself. The Advent background explains quite clearly that only a vanishingly small number of people does not
I see the advent as more evil than the TEC in the game due to the fact that their weapons are things that torture the mind.
How so? Off the top of my head, most of the weapons just suggest that they are strengthened through psi powers (extra focus on a laser, special accuracy, telekinetically reinforced hulls) rather than attacking the enemies brains directly. The only "evil" stuff I can really think of is their penchant for a form of mind-control, (their cultu
No, its not. please stop babbling nonsense and lift your head a bit. yes. thats ok. thank you. *fires novalith*
You don't like Advent? Don't worry, we've got a cure for that horrible affliction. *Fires Deliverance Engine* They love me, they really, really love me! All the other sides wave around their big guns, but we send hot burning love rocketing among the stars. We're pacifists, really. [telepathy]Ignore the fleet approaching your col
Actually, it seemed more to me that the speaker (current TEC) was parotting boogy-man stuff that he was told as a child. This was based on the original Trade Order meeting a bunch of people who had totally different values and psychotically over-reacting. (the leaders of the time could probably use an enemy-image to unite the people, and being "victorious" against the alledgedly evil "deviants" makes good propaganda) Also, these people that Mr. Speaker was taught as a child were evil-ba
I still say it's the Dread Lords. :-p Edit: Thinking about it, an experimental trans-dimensional drive puncturing a dimensional barrier letting team nasty in is quite a plausible storyline. (if not terribly original, but what is these days)
You did add the modules to it, right? As far as I know, the starbase itself doesnt generate any bonuses, you get them from the modules you install on it. (you will have to research the more advanced modules)
if you had to pick one functional aspect of the game that you wanted to see emulated in the new Stardock project, what would it be?
I particularly liked being a big mage that can cast map affecting spells, army summoning etc. You know, being a powerful entity that is not completely tied to the city/production infrastructure. (though that is, of course, where most of you magical power comes from) Effectively: being a mage who has races/cities/etc. working f
I steer clear of malware on my computer, but now I've discovered that even EA cannot be trusted.
Emphasis mine. Argh where's the edit button when you need it! Anyways: even EA? Hello? EA has always been at the forefront of draconian (and counterproductive) initiatives to benefit the company at the expense of the customer.
Eh, how can you not expect EA to use Securom? As far as I know they've been using versions of Securom for a very long time. It's just because the current version is more malignant than most, that it stirs up some controversy. Quite frankly, I'm surprised that we haven't yet heard announcements of impending deals between EA and Starforce. Seems to me that that piece of rootkit-malware is right up their alley.
Unfortunately I'm more of a fantasy gamer.. Any plans for Stardock to do something more Strategy/RPG/Resourcish ala Heroes of Might and Magic? Or would anyone on here have any recommendations?? I'm trying to swear off Steam, and I'm hoping Impusle will have what I need..
Stardock has stated that a fantasy turn-based strategy game "not-MoM" (working title :-p ) is next on their to-do list. I think pre-production has started. (we've seen some concept art pictures) <br/
don't tell me you don't want to know whats pursuing the vasarri.Yeah. I'd like to know what's pursuing the Vasari. Kind of has me interested in what it could be.
Have you people learned nothing from playing Stardock games? Obviously it's the Dread Lords. :-p
The only way this pointless, useless and utterly irritating DRM saga will ever cease is not to buy DRM products. That will, finally, penetrate to the respective Games House Board Room that all is not well out there, and despite the briefings given to the contrary by Bonus motivated Staff, they are losing a shed full of cash and market share.
Or they could just interpret it as follows: Sales are down, so people must be pirating it instead of buying it. We need
i want this game so bad :[
I'm sure someone from Stardock will be happy to hook you up for a reasonable fee. :-p
Well, they do have approval buildings so the combination of powerful unique buildings & a few empty tiles to be filled with approval buildings and a political capital is quite ok.I did tend to run into financial trouble later on though once I had more of the Thalan research & production buildings (they have considerably higher maintenance costs per MP / TP than the normal factories and labs)I have actually been purchasing Research buildings from other tech races. I find that the exchange
I can only agree with maudlin27.The Irony is, if people do not buy some game because of the copy protection and it gets poor sales, the publishers will blame piracy for it and make the protection even more intrusive. Maybe they will learn someday.
Publishers like that will either learn or go bankrupt, either outcome will satisfy me. :-p
Graphics are nothing for a good gameAye, but they still affect sells. Hype a game because of its graphics, and even if its a crap game, it will sell a bit.
And there you have the business model for the draconian DRM publishers in a nutshell: Enough media blitz and graphical shinies and you don't need content or debugging. Oh, and as for the idea that harsh drm works: its exactly as succesful at stopping piracy as prohibtion was for alchohol and current r
I just (massively) zoomed in on a planet for some reason and noticed something about the streams of black blobs travelling between the structures/cities/thingies on the surface of planets: When you look closely at them, they are very small, black tinted, versions of the models in the game, and not just the ships. I saw Vasary battleships, frigate shipyards and even a tiny Novalith zoom by. (the planet was Advent, incidentally) Just a small fun fact I felt like sharin
