Game's definitely not ready for primetime yet. Eventually they need to stop making excuses though...
I think you'll find most people here don't really care that its taking them a while, because the feedback has made beta 2 a lot better then beta 1. Quality releases are worth the wait. But the way they keep updating the date in Impulse to something that keeps being wrong, and keeps causi

This is what, the FOURTH time this has happened now? Seriously, someone needs to beat Stardock sales with a stick until they stop doing this.
I don't think Starbases in Sins are meant to be like a GalCiv 2 economic starbase. They're still primarily defensive structures, that can be upgraded to trade some defensive firepower in exchange for some economic help. Just IMO of course. Extending the trade network is a nice bonus, but I don't think its the point of the Starbase.
Most things seem the same to me. Starbases got slower in neutral territory, and much slower in hostile territory. Maybe that's what your noticing. I actually think its too slow for the Vasari, since their anti structure ship is also their Starbase, and it takes an eternity to get one going now.
Annatar's right. What you're suggesting is the ship have one bank that does 3 or 4 times more damage. :) The bank change can make starbases (and caps that use it) strong againts bigger fleets of little ships. It's not meant to make one ship that can blow away another capital ship in ten seconds.
I'm pretty sure having it only damage shields is a bug.
I believe one of the devs posted that only TEC AI is using mines right now, deliberately until they get the mine detection code better tested.
Same here. Looks like Data Execution Protection triggered it.
I don't know if its related, but a friend of mine recently had to roll back his Nvidia drivers due to issues in the current ones.
Optimizing for multi-core requires rewriting large sections of the core of the game. It's not very likely at this point, because it's not easy and prone to break almost everything.
That'd explain why Impulse couldn't log in either. Everything seems to be up again now.
So, I can build mines in any grav well that I've scouted, including enemy wells? Could you please explain this a bit more?
You have a limit of 150 mines per gravity well. Every other player has the same limit. So yes, you can put 150 mines in every gravity well that you can find, if you wanted to. So can everybody else. But what we won't see anymore is 3600 mines from one pl
Yeah, to actually use the "fleet" mechanisms you want to select a bunch of ships and go into the orders, and hit "create fleet". You can actually do it with a single ship and set your production rally point to that ship, and most new ships you make will auto join the fleet. Fleets can also be pinned to the empire tree (I think it's off by default, but its in the settings menu).
It sounds like each target will receive 100% of the bank's damage output (ie, if the starbase beam does 100 damage and can fire at 3 targets, each target will receive 100 damage, rather than 33). But this is just my understanding, we'll probably have to wait for the beta update to see for ourselves. Edit: On the other hand, mention of unused targeting capacity makes it sound otherwise.. so now I'm confused as well. Thanks a lot!
Trader Defense Navy?
That change has major potential. Obviously it'll be a big Starbase boost, but if they set it so that Cap Ships can also engage multiple targets like that, it could change the game considerably.
Wow, looks great!
https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/337896 Looks like it won't be needed. :D
Changelist has been submitted. New ICO going up tonight. It's coming soon, hopefully this week
Is the changelist going to be posted somewhere before the patch is up for download? Pretty please? :D
My objection to the release date problem isn't that they're moving the date. I agree, a quality release later is better then a poor release now. But the difference between Starcraft 2 and Entrenchment is that Starcraft 2 never had a date. Entrenchment has had several, and they were all wrong. I mean right now "next week" is showing up on the front page of this site, and that's probably wrong too. That's the motivation for my suggestion above to ha
“Next week Ironclad will be releasing the first ever micro-expansion for our 2008 Game of the Year, Sins of a Solar Empire."
That is currently posted on the front page of www.sinsofasolarempire.com. Now they're quoting an IGN preview and IGN may have the date wrong, but if that's the case it shouldn't be posted here either. It looks pretty official when it's on the official site.
https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/337099 The only thing better then no news is news in another thread. ;)
Thanks for the update. :)
"I'm quitting" usually means "I'm not playing Entrenchment until a new version comes out". Thats where I am right now. Every game ends the same way in this version: a slideshow with zillions of mines choking everything up.
