I'm reminded of a play I read in college: MILNE: No matter how imperfect things are, if you've got a free press everything is correctable, and without it everything is concealable. RUTH: I'm with you on the free press. It's the newspapers I can't stand. -- Tom Stoppard, Night and Day, Act I You may hate it,

And then someone comes along and sums it all up, puts all that emotion and human nature in a nice, easy to deal with package with a bow, and presents it for all. Ahhhhh, all is right again. Logic is restored. The world has order again. You see, anything any of us does, including what I'm writing right now, can be made to look ridiculous. If that's what we really want. <i

Thanks to you, I now have egg on my face. In an earlier post I stated that name calling tit for tat personalization's aimed at folks with differing opinions didn't appear common at JU. Then you really should have read all the posts first. You'd be amazed. And guess what, it's not always a left-winger.

Yes, after reading through this thread I have to admit conservatives are better debaters. In fact, I'd go so far as to call them masters at debating. Yup, Masterdebaters, that's for sure.

Can't speak for all liberals, but I am ok about it. But then, I have selfish reasons, what with a jewish wife and many of her family living in Israel. Yeah, how do you guys say....um....let's get 'er done ! OOOO, I felt all macho and tingley for a moment. This conservative stuff might not be so bad after all.

I cannot [stand?] it when a woman insists on hyphenating her married name with her maiden name. To see people saddled with two or three surnames is just mean-spirited. I understand that women want to express their independence and their non-subjugation to their husband, but stop thinking about yourself for a moment... </

You say this but provide no evidence. I write an article and within a day we have on[e] liberal telling a conservative to "go suck him off". Where have I been going around calling people vile names? Hmmmm. Way back in post #9 I listed a whole bunch of quotes all lifted from the venerable pages of JU,

So Atheism is self contradictory? INteresting. That could be why they are so afraid of the mention of God. Even tho they scream there is none. We are not afraid to metion or the mention of God at all. Watch this: God, God, God, God, God...etc. See? No problem. The problem is, in an atheist's fra

Wow BigRickStallion, thanks for putting so much effort into making my point for me. The usual conservative comeback. I really thought you were after a real discussion this time draggy. Someone comes and tries to give you one and you're right back to the usual shit. Outdone intellectually, so back to

Hmmm. The only difference I've personally been able to detect so far is liberal is spelled l-i-b-e-r-a-l and conservative is spelled c-o-n-s-e-r-v-a-t-i-v-e. Here in Canada we have both. Our liberals and conservatives like to keep it real simple for the population to understand who they are, so, the liberals call themselves The Liberal Party and the conservatives call themselves The Conservative Party. Now the socialists, of which I am one

In the meantime, I'll just hope that I can debate with friends and strangers alike without them trying to patronize me or shout me down. But I won't get my hopes up. I know exactly what you mean. This sort of thing happens throughout the blogs at JU. Here are a few examples of thousands I h

The title is very misleading. I was hoping for a link where I might see a group of libs, and it would need to be an extremely large group, crying enough to create a river. Can you point me towards such a thing. Or even a pic of one lib crying just a little. ....or was all this just hyperbole? <img src="http://images.stardock.com/JU/smiles/Wink.gif" bo

I'm an ex-smoker. I quit mostly for financial reasons, (cigarettes in Canada reached $7.00 a pack and I was smoking 1 pack a day). I also quit, believe it or not, because it made the house smell bad. But I did not quit for health reasons. I have never bought into the notion that smoking is the number one bad habit causing all the world's health problems. The biggest cause of the world's health problems is p

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here Here comes the sun, here comes the sun and I say it's all right Sun, sun, sun, here it comes... I always liked his guitar playing. A little Carl Perkins, a little Buddy Holly. It was simple by today's standards, but it always added something special to each beatle song. Aquarium Screensaver becomes gefilte fish screensaver (mmmm, maybe with a bit of horseradish) Shut down becomes "you want I should leave?" Error message becomes "oy, this is farkatke." Phone home becomes "you never call." When the computer reboots for no apparent reason it's Eliyahu.

As he was forming her, he kept repeating "be chaste! Be chaste!"...... And Eve thought God was saying "be chased! Be chased!" ... And men have been chasing after them ever since.
