Regardless of what you may or may not believe with the reasons for us going into Iraq, one of the actual issues that arise as a result of the War is the issue of Iraq's oil. Iraq has over 100 billion barrels of proven oil reserves. Just to put this into perspective, only Saudi Arabia has more conventional oil at 260 billion barrels. Upon coallition forces securing Iraq, many Western Oil companies were licking their lips at the prospect of agreeing part-ownership contracts

I have to say i'd like to say a thank you to teh author of this and those whom have replied. Since reading it i've obtained Stardust and Stranger than Fiction and seen them both and their great films, i especially loved Stranger than Fiction (i think mostly because it had a hot anarchist in it). Is it foolish to believe that there's some global conspiracy to just ignore alternative solutions until our oil runs as a means to gain more money from it? You also need to take into account the issue that only conventional oil and gas is taken into account when determining oil and gas reserves. If you consider a pyramid, at the top, and having less of, is conventional oil/gas - Cheap to extract but reserves are probably only going to last us 40-60 years at the current rate of consumption..
