Regardless of what you may or may not believe with the reasons for us going into Iraq, one of the actual issues that arise as a result of the War is the issue of Iraq's oil. Iraq has over 100 billion barrels of proven oil reserves. Just to put this into perspective, only Saudi Arabia has more conventional oil at 260 billion barrels. Upon coallition forces securing Iraq, many Western Oil companies were licking their lips at the prospect of agreeing part-ownership contracts

The right to life is one of the fundemental rights that as a society recognises, however what about the right to die? Who would want such a thing in the first place? You may ask. Well there are people in the wolrd that are currently looking at their future and envisaging months (in some cases years) of a slow decline in the quality of life, with pain and suffering. Some of these people have asked to not go through this and have asked, in their own words, to 'Die w
I have to say i'd like to say a thank you to teh author of this and those whom have replied. Since reading it i've obtained Stardust and Stranger than Fiction and seen them both and their great films, i especially loved Stranger than Fiction (i think mostly because it had a hot anarchist in it). I noticed Stranger than Fiction was directed by the same guy doing the new James Bond film - Quantum Solace (Mark Foster), so i was intrigued to see what other films he had done adn noticed one
Hehe, classic!
lula - i think you (and others like you) need to take on board the fact that many people live their lives unsure of how the world was created, where we came from, who or what was responsible for us etc. These same people can still believe in theories such as evolution and the big bang. Neither actually state the begining of the universe, or how life itself began. What they do do is sort of map out stages after these events, giving us the ability to see not where we came from, but how w
Is it foolish to believe that there's some global conspiracy to just ignore alternative solutions until our oil runs as a means to gain more money from it? I mean look at two scenarios shall we: 1) Alternate Power source found, lets say for example we found a means to create Nuclear Fushion efficentley and on a large scale in say the next 2 years (we've actually being creating Nuclear Fushion for years in Oxford, but just not efficentley enough nor on a large enough scale
You also need to take into account the issue that only conventional oil and gas is taken into account when determining oil and gas reserves. If you consider a pyramid, at the top, and having less of, is conventional oil/gas - Cheap to extract but reserves are probably only going to last us 40-60 years at the current rate of consumption.. The further down you get, the more fossil fuel you have, but it's more expensive to extract . Then there's the reason for actual oil prices inc
Just like the Ghouls from the Nation of Islam, these men incite hate and deserve what they get. I really don't understand what your trying to defend here KFC.
I've read your post Leauki, i've no time to reply to all of it but i promise after the weekend i will, but please allow me to make one comment on your closing paragraph(s). Why is my statement anti-Semitic? Anti-Semitic would suggest that i dislike Jewish people, would it not? Let's say i am wrong, and that you are right. Why would my misinterpritation of events make me dislike people of a certain faith? How dare you insult me in such a way, it's like saying i'm a
Kaliningrad was captured by the russians during world war 2 was it not? Shall we class that as an illega war? :d I'll take your point however. Well the UN didn't single out Israel, they've made requests to the likes of Iraq (for their invasion of Kuwait), Sudan (for their invasion of Darfur), It's just that these countries didn't have a hugely succesful lobby in America that allowed it to get away with clearly disregarding the UN. Either way, to p
SUV's and my thermostat are not "destroying" the planet.
I'm disgusted i share a gene pool with you to be honest.
Dr Guy, fail. I think what the majority of people do not understand is that Palastine is being annexxed by Israel. This is the main cause of the troubles. This annexxation is illegal by international law, it piss's all over the geneva convention and finally gives ammunition to islamic fundamentalists to show that reason and peace talks won't work. I think we can all agree here that Israel still has settlements in occupied territories. Indeed to this day they are expanding t
Dr Guy can i ask you a question? (I'll assume the answer is yes ). What do you think is the reason for the continued Palestinian populations aggression towards Israel?
The problem you have is that the due to the issues surrounding the middle east, many people are turning to religion and fundementalisim. This gives the Islamic ghouls who go around issueing Fatwa's and training up soldiers and jihadists more ammunition. Some Christian fundementalists would love to blow up the south park studio and let us not forget what religion did to Northern Ireland. Religion when being used as refuge for people in dire situations is all to often subceptable
Yes the Piggy Bank fiasco i remember. I agree entirely that the majority of mulsims living in the west are quite tolerant of ignorance towards their beliefs and traditions, most just want to get on with it, so to speak. Yet i think many whom live in countries were islamic fundamentalisim is rife, do not, i'll indicate the country wide marches and protests in Sudan calling for the head (quite litterally) of a primary school teacher who named a teddy bear Mohammed. My opini
Thats because Jewish people didn't go around cutting off peoples heads and blowing up embassays if you offended them or didn't accomdate their religion.
Democracy in its very nature is designed to give people as a whole the ability and opportunities to dictate whom they want to govern them and most importantly of all, what interests that government will pursue for them. <span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-
lula - can you please provide me with archelogical evidence that proves the Earth is as young as Creationists believe? Just out of interest, i'm having trouble finding some.
I understand what you're saying but you're not using this same criteria for the other side. There is no observable and measureable evidence when it comes to the origins of man via the Evolution Theory either.
Ok and Ock's answer to this was that Evolution doesn't pretend to know the answer of origins. It does however offer a tangiable explanation of how we got from microbes to humans. That's not to say its true, but using t
There's somethings in the universe that we don't understand and what happens when you die is natrually one of them (and probably the one that we are really all interested in). I think the nature of energy, and how all mass is just condensed energy, is perhaps just a small pin hole sized view into the actual workings of the universe (or multiverse or whatever). Sam Harris, whom is a well recognised antitheist, has said we should not ignore things that are considered super natural
This blog may not apply to many JU users, as your based in America and as such probably not accustomed nor interested in what Soccer Holagnisim is, or what causes it. I'm writing this article mostly for references off site, so apologies if your not sure on the subject. Please feel free to ask questions if your interested on the matter but unsure on one or two things. I was inspired to write this piece because of the troubles in the city of Manchester earlier this week, when Glasgow Ra
Firstly, let me say i've still not made up my mind on appeasment yet. As i fully don't understand issue such as the Kurdish oppression in Northern Iraq before we went in, the treatment of women in countries like Afganastan etc. something i'm currently researching, also i've not actually been to Israel or Palestine yet so my view is that of history books, the internet and (although i try to avoid it) the media. Let me start with:
Bush never played politics to get elected.[
Hey Ock, Good article and one i think was needed given the recent debates going on here at JU. It's interesting what Artysim said regards to Credentials. I actually think this is somewhat of a grey area and perhaps Artysim's mention of Peer Review brings it into perspective, but someone can make an observation of something, come up with a hypothesis without any offically recognised credentials and still be 100% on the mark. It would be here that Peer Review stepped in, an
This boggles my mind because the Evolutionists feel this way but yet say we, the Creationists are not the "thinking" ones. The Christians are more apt to let both stand side by side but the Evolutionist are not. Can't you see thru this?
Well the reason we feel this way is quite simply because Intelligent Design (and even more so Creationisim) are NOT science. They have NO scientific fact and as such should not be taught in Science. Debating whether o
What if, now get this...BOTH ARE RIGHT!!??I have to say I don't agree with this idea, not because I'm contrary but because I don't believe in this idea:I also can't look at a newborn baby, or learn about the human body and how smart it is without knowing that there is no away that we came together by chance, luck, or pure evolution alone. Something (Heavenly Father) had to direct it.I think the reality is this subject has already been discussed, dissect
