I know that you mentioned that you don't have any mods installed or workshop stuff subscribed to, but your debug.err suggests the game might be trying to use mods anyways. Could you start the game, go to Options, Gameplay tab, and make sure "Enable Mods" is unselected, and if they were enabled, try running again with them disabled? It very much sounds like there is something wrong with the sandbox data that your game is trying to use, especially because you are able to run scena

Thanks for the save game. You're right, the 3.6 update introduced a bug into the United Earth ship style such that a commander ship can't be created. Your faction is using this ship style, and so being affected by the bug. Sorry for the inconvenience, we are addressing it now. This issue should be limited to the United Earth faction and custom factions based off of it, so you should be able to assign commanders when playing a different faction.

Yes, it should be possible to mod all those colors yourself; for example, the core factions get their color defs from the UIColorDef.xml and FactionMapColorDefs.xml files, which in turn use colors defined in the Core folder in ColorDefs.xml. "Appearance" specifies a set of colors and graphical settings for how the ships of that faction look, using the internal name of a GC3AppearanceDefs.xml def. For finding more help in modding the data more extensively, you could try browsing

Sorry for not putting the details in before. The copy of the FactionDefs_A.xml I had downloaded before had some tags misspelled, and so the XML wouldn't load. I went over to the other post you made and checked that data, and it looks fine. Therefore, like Cari said, you should be able to change your Aesir faction def to use " Aesir_2C4FDAAACFB84068B9BD7A06D0B57462" instead of "AesirShipStyleSet", and your faction ship styles will work.</sp

With the full GC3Crusade folder you posted above, I am not able to reproduce the crash you were getting, because the Aesir modded faction XML is malformed and so isn't available to play. I edited a different faction's XML to use the "AesirShipStyleSet", which does cause a crash, but for the reason that "AesirShipStyleSet" doesn't match the internal name of the Aesir .shipstyle file in your ShipStyleSet folder. When I changed it to use Aesir_2C4FDAAACFB84068B9BD7

When this happens, does your game crash and the crash reporter come up prompting you to send us a report, or do you end up just force-quitting the game? If the crash reporter does come up, could you put your screenname here in the message to send with the report, so that I can quickly find and look at it? I looked at your debug.err, and I see nothing suspicious at all. I thought perhaps your graphics device was failing, but I don't see any warnings about that at all, or any warn

Have you updated the game since Monday and tried going into the battle viewer again? I noticed you are playing in German, and there was a problem in the German version of the data on release where a font for the battle viewer was missing, which appears to be the cause of your crashes. Let me know if you are still having problems after updating the game.

Oops, actually we will also need your Documents\My Games\GC3Crusade\Designs folder too, to figure out what problems you are seeing. It does look like you should be getting a popup when you start the application though, something like "The ship style [Aesir] has failed to validate..." with some information about why. Could you let us know what that message says?

19 Replies 53,954 Views

This might have been confusing, since we've been talking about modded data vs. custom data, but the ShipStyleSet folder I'm looking for wouldn't be in your mod, it would be at the base user data level, so e.g. Documents\My Games\GC3Crusade\ShipStyleSet. Your debug.err mentions trying and failing to validate a ship style called Aesir Terran Ship Style_ABAEEA99C5394EA897535219B9690704, suggesting there is a .shipset file corresponding to that in your </s

Hi, Could you post your ShipStyleSet folder in My Games/GC3Crusade as well? I noticed there are debug messages about the ship style for your modded faction failing validation. This is probably why the game is crashing when you try to play with that faction. I would like to make sure that the validation is not failing for a buggy reason. Because I don't have the ship style set data yet, I can't be sure that this will actually work, but you could try copying your cus

Hi, I have a suspicion that you are being affected by a bug where mod data isn't being updated when it needs to be, causing the game to use stale dev data and sometimes crashing. Could you go into your \Documents\My Games\GC3Crusade\Mods folder and check that your Core.bin or GC3.bin files have a timestamp about corresponding to when you last updated the game? If not, could you try reenabling mods, deleting those files, and play with one of yo

Thanks for the update; the large UI is the key, it is what's causing the crash you are getting. To help you be able to trade credits, there are two options. I'll attach an updated version of the screen file that is causing the trouble. You can use that file and replace the one you find in Steam/SteamApps/common/Galactic Civilizations III/Screens with it, then go to common/Galactic Civilizations III/Tools and double-click the "ScreenDataCompiler.bat" to updat

Hi Publius, do you happen to have a save file for when you saw this discrepancy? It does not seem to be prevalent enough for me to be able to recreate the problem, so a save would be helpful for tracking down the problem. Thanks.

Hey Hawawaa, thanks for the bug report. When you click on those credit entries, a popup is supposed to come up allowing you to choose how many credits you are dealing with. Have you been able to get this popup to ever come up without a crash? For example, if you select your own credits for offer, or try to set up per-week payments? If you cannot, try verifying your files through Steam (right-click the game in your properties, select "Properties," go to the "Local Files

Our current code does not yet have a way to restrict who can see games in the mulitplayer game list. As a result, it's possible while you guys are looking for a game to join, you might see some games set up by devs for testing something real quick and be able to join them. This is an apology for past and future times when one of us falsely gets your hopes up about being able to join a multiplayer game, only for the host to bail from the lobby. We would warn you beforeh

Thanks for getting back to me. Good things to know... I thought it was maybe possible you liked playing without creatures, so I thought I'd check. I can load your saves up through the black magic of having access to the source code and getting around the problematic parts ;). Specifically, your saves are crashing because the game isn't creating a creature AI (a bug in itself that I fixed so it won't crash anymore in the future), but your additional info tells m

Yeah, I caught that it was that the AI started it, and did do my testing by forcing the AI to come to me with the treaty offer. I did have the treaty end the next turn several times while testing, but only if the AI was at war with me when I forced it to give me tribute anyways :P. However, the AI does correctly check that they aren't at war with you before offering the treaty, and changes in relation or player death are about the only things that can cause a treaty to be canc

12 Replies 7,857 Views

Do you remember if the player also declared war on you that turn as well, or had already been at war with you? If not, do you have a save you could upload from a game where you saw this happen? I don't see anything wrong with the treaty data or the logic, and the treaties the AI is offering me in my testing are sticking around, so I'm wondering if you have some different data or other circumstance causing you to see this every time. Thanks.

Did you choose to not have any creatures in this game? Also, is this the first time you tried loading a save from that game, or had previous saves worked just fine? With a patch, you should be able to load your save game and finish your game; it's not corrupted or anything. But you have no creatures or an AI player to control them when I loaded the save up, and I want to know if this is something you purposefully set up, or something bad happened earlier in your game.<
How did you get the zip file name with date and time? cheers
The zip file that DarkSybarite linked to is the zipped-up dump report that I was hoping your computer was generating on your crashes. However, the folder you zipped up does look like the correct location, but they definitely aren't there :/. The debug.err from your 1.2 game does seem to crash in the same way one of your 1.1

DarkSybarite, I don't see anything that stands out in your debug.err or your dump file, so I'd just try some general things to see if you can get past the loading screen. Try renaming your Prefs.ini file in Documents\My Games\FallenEnchantress, and deleting your Data.zip in [your installed FE folder]/data (e.g. C:/Program Files(x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Elemental Fallen Enchantress/data/Data.zip, or C:/Program Files(x86)/Stardock Games). This should make sure there aren&
