for those running nvidia 7x series, be sure you upgrade to the 8x/9x driver. there is another post in this forum that will help with specifics. as for large maps that slow down, happens to me too. not much i can do about it. as i have more crud float around my 60-80 planets the game has more to process. i have plenty of computing power. anyone not see lag on the largest maps in single player?
DauntlessAnsible
i say cinamatic as well. you probably hit a hotkey for it or something. i do that all the time.
i cant offer much since i havent beat that number of hard ai's yet either. that game will happen this weekend. i definately agree with mixing the ai skills at first. set there colors so you can easily remember them. green:easy orange:moderate red:hard. then at a glance you will know the skills you are dealing with. once you get better, then mix all the colors and icons up.
version 1.05? stock map?
Nukes Space Ponies: crunchy Space Whales: Vasari Colony Capital ship?
current tech: smart missiles with heavy payloads. nukes maybe depending on the target. everyone saw what we did to the falling satalite this year right? that was a conventional weapon. guns and ballistics are not reasonable except and very close range. future tech: ships built in space for space combat. still reliant on missiles. but you will see ships capable of carrying ICBM sized weapons to use against the surface or other large vessels. engine tech will improve so lig
Sounds like you haven't researched it yet. The cannon is the most expensive thing to research and you have to research every thing to the cannon to unlock it. beyond that you need to have 8 weapons research structures. basically you will need several planets suffeciently upgraded to even build the infrastructure to research the cannon. dont fret, with a little time and resources you can build that cannon.
got a funny story... i was 16. it was summer. so you may already have guessed i was bored. so was a good friend of mine. so we spent about 2 hrs putting together a little fake program using Apple HyperCard and loaded it only my Mom's computer. it was harmless. just a simple little toy that would have only have scared her a little if I were present to fix it. but my friend and i were at his house. this little tiny app did nothing but load at startup and flash on s
lets see, 2 active computers at home. plus 3 desktops and 1 laptop. at work i have a desktop plus about 10 virtual machines that i use regularly. i already gave away two systems this year. anyone have the address of a african village i can send my extras to?
i have found the most joy in the game by finding different ways to win against the ai's. everyone knows they can wipe out an easy ai or 9 by simply grabbing as many planters early and heavily defending them. so do things in options to make life harder on you. mix up skills and races. play different maps. change game speeds and resource limits. i found by doing this, the game has stayed very fresh. every game is different and i find my self taking different routes to win.
I am striving to find my space ponies. Someday they will be mine.
"(I believe those media things on have a 1 phase line effect, right?)." Sorry, m8. Culture grows over time way beyond a single lane. The techs in your tech tree help the culture expand faster or decrease slower. Culture can be a huge asset to you. I will typically build several broadcast stations away from my home world. After a couple of hours of play, I can basically just kick back and let the culture win for me.
thank you for taking the time to write out your suggestions.
I thought Byss was a desolate planet plagued by acid rain and toxic water. At least that's what it is in Jedi Academy.
what is your OS? what is your nVidia driver verion? what is your Sins version? are you playing in multi-player or single? does the game lag and crash, or is it normal and then crashes? how is the game setup? map size, graphics level, etc. have you tried shutting down other apps as well. ie antivirus, spyware blockers, etc.
what's online?
from other posts, i can tell you the actual game processing is not multi-core optimized. sins will pre load many images and textures but actual game processing occurs on a single core. plus, you are running 64bit windows. im pretty sure that the os is scaling down to run the 32 bit app. this means all 4gb of ram is not being addressed by the game, and the processor is working to emulate the 32bit enviroment. my guess is between the proc bottleneck and the 32 addressing, that
true, but the power of the missiles increases at the tech tree is built out. there are what...7 to 10 missile upgrades in the TEC tech tree?
this one is new to me. i bought the game the old fashion way. generally settings like that will be saved by users in windows. are you logged in as the same user as before? did you have any windows trouble that may have caused the profile to corrupt? Not sure which other way to go with it. Did the game keep the settings after you exited and went back in?
another note on tactical structures against computers. last night as i was playing TEC i witnessed the computer actually do something well. they waiting until my force was attacking a well defended ai with a decent fleet. then two other ai's attacked my planet with a fleet that had maybe 4 or 5 caps and 50 other ship types. my planet had 6 hangers, a repair bay and the rest of the slots were guns. i had been building that planet as a forward ship yard as well. so it had 4 f
im not real sure how to compare it to SC. Maybe Aramada II since battles mainly happen around planets and everything is in space.
the missile barrage gains power with the upgrades. like most tec ships the initial upgrades arent especially major. once you get to lvl 3 on an ability then it becomes highly effective.
it was aparently the fact that my head was still in sleep mode. kinda scarey considering it made it to work and somehow managed to post this thread. now tomorrow morning i will be tired because i played sins all night :D
i do remember the game. i think i played the shareware version. fps with a map and some other cool features. @instant, in those days i was already farting around with Macs so the GUI wasnt a stranger to me. I had started using SuperPaint and Pagemaker at a friends house. The games where there but just not many. dos was still my main gaming OS though. :)
you raise an interesting concept. a sim level experience in the sins world. maybe youre a fighter pilot or frigate captin. however, i wouldnt put it in sins. i would create a spin off game. maybe bundle the two together for a special edition.
