Regarding the game's name and quoted tweets, I think you're both right, but are making slightly different points. SirPrimalform correctly notes that F&P did not explicitly name their game "Star Control: Whatever". Frogboy is making the slightly different, but also correct point, that they used the phrase "Star Control" in such close pr

I think that one explanation is that P&F aren't pressing a claim to own the trademark; they're claiming nobody owns the trademark, because it was legally abandoned due to being out of use during that gap period. If they had pressed an abandonment claim back then, I think they would have had a strong case, but I'm not sure how the passage of time, Stardock's purchase of whatever rights Atari had, and subsequent development of the game may have impacted the strength of their legal a

The important thing for me is that the races be fully integrated into the universe's existing continuity. Where were they during the events of SC2? Why weren't they enslaved or wiped out by the Ur-Quan? Rather than introducing many new races, I might give each existing spacefaring race 2-3 classes of ship. Depending on when the game is set, the ships' tech level could also be higher or lower than those in SC2. You could also look at <a

I'd love to see Stardock create and publish the game, but I'm skeptical that anyone will be able to properly capture the spirit of the original without involving its creators.

Congratulations on acquiring the Star Control franchise! Stardock was high on my list of those I hoped would get it, second only to Paul and Fred themselves. If I could offer a suggestion on how you could generate some goodwill with the existing fan community, I wonder if you might consider licensing the trademark for use by the "Ur-Quan Masters" project ( http://sc2.sourceforge.net ). It had to rename itself to avoid a trademark viol

68) Minor enhancement request: Have the tech tree display of a technology display the icons for the races that are known to possess it. For bonus points, provide an easy way to initiate trading from this screen. Motivation: When I'm tech trading, it's important for me to know who else has the tech. Also, it's far more informative to see the other race's techs wiithin the tree than it is to see them in the espionage report as a text list.

I believe that all Trade Goods effects are global, and once built, can only be acquired by barter, or by conquering the original planet the good was built on. When bartered, the receiving race gets the benefit immediately (they don't need to build anything), and I don't think anything can take it away from them. Which gives rise to an interesting followup question: If you build a Trade Good, and the planet it was built on is abandoned or conquered, do you retain the bonus,
