You do realize that phone call is a dramatization, right? What you're doing would be like me linking to a clip of The Matrix and then being like "I'm scared of how close we are to the machines enslaving humanity - I know it's made up but it's probably closer than you think". It's called caller ID, and I don't think it's a sign the apocalypse is near.
You can get a pre-paid cell phone and they won't know jack about you. Like the drug dealers on "The Wire". Quality show.
I voted for no espionage. I've never liked it because defending yourself against it has always been too passive - you just build anit-spy units/buildings and hope the RNG is kind to you. At least in the 4X games that I've played. Somebody probably could do it differently or better but I'm not sure EWOM is the place for it.
Good discussion. I'd point out that another very important difference between chess and most modern video games is that in chess, there is no hidden information a.k.a. "fog of war". Each player knows everything about the other player's moves. This makes it far simpler to develop an algorithm for a computer to play well. The thing I've never really gotten around in terms of designing how an AI should behave is this: What's it's objective? Is it
I liked 1602 a lot but I thought 1701 was essentially the same game with improved graphics. Is there anything new or different about DoD?
I don't know that much about this stuff, but from Civ IV I had understood that as you moved stuff from C++ to Python, the game's performance would get slower and slower, since Python compiles at runtime. I wasn't clear on whether that meant the game would just take longer to load, or the game itself would actually run slower when you are playing it (or both). Hopefully, it won't be a big issue.
I can't believe a thread like this, on this forum, got this long without any quotes from SMAC: "Beware, you who seek first and final principles, for you are trampling the garden of an angry God and he awaits you just beyond the last theorem." - Sister Miriam Godwinson "What goes up....better doggone well stay up!" - Morgan Gravitonics Company Slogan Good gameplay is the most important thing, but I think it's minor "cosmetic" stuff l
I've never done this before.
It does look interesting. With autonomous ships lousy AI could really hurt the game, and I also wonder about replayability. But definitely worth watching. Would have loved it if SD had done something like this in a GC2 expansion.
Code sent via PM. Enjoy!
I've never liked sliders in a game. MOO3 ftl. I know GalCiv2 has them, but not as many, and I liked it in spite of them. A lot depends on how many resources you plan to have. If there are more than about ten at any given time, it could get ridiculous, and turn some people off. Some people will still like it, though. IF you can develop a UI that lets me manage all this effectively while only looking at one screen and making a small number of clic
So on 4/24, at around 9:15 PM CST I download the latest update, and decide to try multiplayer for the first time. I choose "Skirmish". Connecting is smooth and painless. Game starts within 1 minute. And we realize that while the light side has 2 players, the forces of dark have none. I don't mean they have no human players; there are NO dark demigods on the map at all. So I'm thinking there are still some kinks to be worked out. Bu
I liked Might and Magic, if you want go way back. Also the Disgaea games; I know of Cursed Memories for PS2 and Absence of Justice for PS3. There are probably more. I think Temple of Elemental Evil was turn-based. Very buggy, but I thought the combat was reasonably well-done.
Why is DRM such a divisive issue? I dislike coconut more than you dislike DRM, but I don't go around giving recipes that contain coconut one star reviews. Nor do I publicly lament how this dish or that dish was ruined by the coconut, or vehemently insist that I totally would have bought such-and-such if there weren't coconut in it. The person who made the dish gets to decide whether or not to use coconut, regardless of how stupid or evil or
Do you have any idea how long it takes for oil to be created naturally? I mean, like, wow.

Wow. I so disagree. Corporations usually, but not always, create wealth synergistically. How much wealth does a software developer create with no programmers? Zero. How much does a programmer create with no marketing or sales or distribution? Zero. What about a chef with no servers? A directors with no actors? And so on and so on. Wealth is only created when all of the pieces of the puzzle are in place. Take away a
[quote]This appears to be fixed in version 1.02.024 which is on Impulse now.I checked both a Republican custom and a Democrat custom candidate and saw issue stances across the board.Hooray and thanks!-KnightAVI'm not so sure that it is fixed.I think I did narrow the issue down, though. When you create a new candidate and go straight into a game with him, he seems to have very neutral stances across the board; however, if you quit out of the game, restart it, and choose that same candidate and go
FWIW I'm running XP SP2 on a Dell P4 2.0 Ghz with an ATI Radeon X300, drivers updated May '08 - if that matters. I can give more details if you need them. I'm playing 1.02.24 After some odd things made me wonder about the game mechanics, I did the following experiment: Start a quick-play game as Obama vs. McCain in Campaign 2008 with default settings and the normal difficulty. Home state is Ill. Fly to NY and build a level 1 HQ. Now I pick one
