OK, here's a wierd one for you: the Basecolor and Trimcolor RGB fields in the raceconfig.xml for the Terrans (just the Terrans!) has four values. WHY, and what happens if I change or delete the fourth one?

Quaternus: Since the extreme planet types are hardcoded, you would need to actually get inside the source code to do this, and even then it would be a LOT of work. Sounds like fun, though... [e digicons]}:)[/e] Space: To make a planet uninhabitible, just have the tactic reduce planet quality by 100%. It will allow players to really mess up the way the game is played, but that's your choice... I have also heard that this MAY crash the game, b

Just delete the Nightmare torpedo from your tech tree, and remember that mods only show up when you start a new game, unless you change the XMLs outside of the modfolder, which I don't recommend.

How did you get your races to work? I am doing exactly what you did with the raceconfig.xml (except, of course, the races themselves are different) and my mod doesn't work AT ALL. The race select screen itself is COMPLETELY unchanged, and my races only appear on the "Select Opponents" area. Here is a sample XML (all of them are like this, as I have checked and double-checked for formatting errors): 0</R

I know that there is code to invert colors from my use of Photoshop: it would just be a matter of putting it into the game and having it run constantly in place of a hardpt color... would certainly require major tinkering with the source code and may not even be possible, but... I wish I'd come up with this kind of thing while another expansion pack was still in the works!

Through some experiments and liberal use of cheats, I figured it out: The race that has raceID: 4 in the raceconfig.xml will always have a problem with the race that has raceID: 1, and raceID: 5 will never get along very well with raceID: 9. They will have a permanent diplo penalty called "lingering racial grudge" when dealing with each other, like the Torians and Drengin or Iconians/Yor.
1-- Having bought all three DL, DA & TA... i think i deserve getting these 6 hidden bonus structures too. I thought any of these updates were automatically given to us for everything we paid, Gold edition stuff included.
Who knows... The communist system looks a lot better every time I have to pay for something that by all rights should be free![e digicons]>:([/e] But when you look at the games you get, Gold is actually a BETTER value than just buying them a
Now modding the XML FlavorText is a whole different story
Yes, it is an absurdly huge file. Fortunately, if you use the "find" feature on notepad, and put in a general keyword such as "first colony" for the first colony paragraphs, you should land on or near the section you want.
just give racial enemies an extra negative in diplomacy when dealing with one another.
They already have a -. It's called "lingering racial grudge". Incidentally, anybody know how to mod a race to have it? Like, say, I want the Luminoth to hate the Ing, what do I change?

I would like for the AI to boost its relations with you if you vote in it's interest. i.e. if you vote to put the Galactic Prison/Factory on Toria, the Torians wouuld like you more.

I liked the tech victory sequence from GC1 much better than 2. I agree that you should get bonuses from tech victory path techs, but instead of being glommed onto the "research" arm of the tree, they should be spread into different areas. i.e. Near Omniscience should be after the most costly techs in the Research area of the tree, Beyond Mortality should be after the most costly Biology techs, and Galactic Understanding after the most costly Diplomacy and Culture techs. In other wor

If you have TA, use the editor: In the improvement editor go to the "bonuses" tab and locate the box labeled "% bonus to civ". The scrolldown menu conains all the ability types. "Ability Amount" is the % by which the ability is actually raised. "Ability Factor" seems to be what the improvement window in the game says the improvement raises. For the planet it is built on, use the numerous "% bonuses to planet" boxes on the right. If you don't have TA, these imps will become available

9) [e digicons]:maybe:[/e] 8) I like that idea, but not having much experience in modeling, I don't know if it's even possible.. 6) Judging by my experiments, there is nothing about the "category" classifications that scales the hull. It seems like the smaller hulls just have naturally smaller models, although since I just switched to a new compuiter & havent had time to download Blender yet, I could be wrong... In any event, KHSM lets you resize the hulls, so it sou

I know that this is technically NOT a problem with the game, but when I click on the grey "My Posts" button on top of the homepage, it just reloads that page, and when I navigate waya after clicking, it logs me out. I have tried this on several different computers, soI know it is not unique to just me.

In what it probably my single most idiotic mistake ever, I got the name of what I was looking for completyely wrong. It is actually called "lingering racial grudge" not "historic animosity." [e digicons]:([/e]

Zyxpsylon: Although this information is useful, it is not exactly what I was originally looking for. What I am talking about is the relations penalty that appears on the foreign policy screen. As far as I know, it only exisis between Torians and Drengin, and the Iconians and Yor.

9 Replies 10,961 Views

How do you mod a race to have the "historic animosity" thing (I think there's also one called "historic friendship, but I forget which race has it) with another race. I looked at the XMLs, but there seems to be no difference between the Torians and Drengin and, say, Humans and Drengin. Is it hardcoded or something?
What other bonuses would you need?
I've always wanted to create a set of economic bonus tiles, as well as 300% and 700% tiles for influence and morale. Maybe something for soldiering or logistics or whatnot... I don't really know beyond the first few, but I would definately want more to add some variety to the game.
