This is a hype. Linux had a competitive browser since about the year 1997. If it is so easy to defeat Microsoft that you only need to have a system that can run a browser, Microsoft would have been beaten by Linux long ago. Winning the desktop is complicated, you need compatibility with existing software and documents, allow users to seemlessly migrate settings & documents. In addition, people are resistant to change. No, it won't be easier for Google than for other Linux distrrib

I originally wanted to upload the Dark Avatar translation as a separate mod, but uploading is broken for more than a half year now (will it ever be fixed?).
What are the advantages/disadvantages of Windows Home Server compared to a Linux home server? Ease of configuration. What's the old adage? "Linux is only free if your time is worth nothing." DrGonzo
Let's not turn this thread into a religion one. Setting up a few shares for Windows client machines is both a few mouse clicks on Windows & Linux. Advantages/disadvantages please. I.e. things like platform X has better internet connection shar

I have a home server for 12 years now. Nowadays I store all my documents in Subversion rather than via NFS or SMB. This works really, since it not only solves the issue of having your documents in one place, but also the "laptop synchronisation" problem, you do a checkout on your laptop, work on it on the road and check in your modifications later. What are the advantages/disadvantages of Windows Home Server compared to a Linux home server?

Don't be fooled by the PR. Just like in the Media Player case, the DG Competition wants all middleware removed, i.e. the MSHTML.DLL. Microsoft already made the user application removable in IE7. What they have announced today is that they will not ship the user application as part of Win2007 in the in European Economic Area. Apparently it is working because even the mainstream press is reporting it. In fact, I just saw in it on television. This will make it harder for the DG Compet

Impulse works fine on XPerimental. Official requirements:
Impulse Requirements: Windows XP (32-bit) / Vista Internet Explorer 7.0 Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Athlon/Pentium III (1GHz or higher) 512MB RAM 1GB HD space recommended
Well, Impulse is Internet Exploiter combined with 7zip turned into a frustratingly slow resource hog thanks to bad-idea-from-start .NET technology. Having said the bad things, there are quite a bit of things to say in favour of it. Impulse's main point is competition. It has good games at low price and has forced Steam to join the competition, like sales events. Then, I think Impulse certainly has a few must-have titles, to name a few not in

If you did register your serial number -> Just install Impulse and let it install the game for you. You can also make it print your serial number. If you did not register your serial number -> Bad luck, no up to date version for you, but be happy the game has no copy protection, you can still install from CD.

More information please. What are you trying to do, registering with Impulse? If yes, did you select the right product to register?

I made an offer last week for a customer who wanted several "powerfull workstations". So I offered him systems with: 4 * Opteron 8384 "Shanghai" 64 GB RAM 2 * Geforce GTX 285 4 * WD Velociraport in hardware RAID6 Ok, some people run demanding applications, but this is almost a supercomputer on your desktop...
They just did not have the ability to create accurate climate models. We still don't, that's the conceit.
Prima facia, indeed, you can ask the question: if climate models still aren't pefect, why won't scientists change their mind again? That question is valid, but can be adequately answered if you look at the full picture.

Stating his point is entirely valid doesn't make it so. As I said, I do not know the strength of the case back then, If you do happen to know enouh about the scientific concensus in the 70's to make a verdict, please enlighten me, because I have no knowledge about it. You really have to compare both cases, but I cannot judge here. 30 years of observation are enough to observe a climate change, because climate is defined as the weather patterns over a period of about this order o
@dmantione - Thanks for the direct link. I agree he should have been more careful on that. But that doesn't really undermine his main point - that the consensus scientific opinion was 180 degrees wrong at the time and that the track record of 'consensus' climate science suggests that betting the farm on it, at any given point in time, might not be the wisest move.
Well, his argument is basically like this:
