Unfortunately most people don't appreciate long and tedious grinds, they don't like hard games either. So, they make a hard game, get subscribers up to the point where the only people interested in playing the game already are. The only way to get more subscribers is to make the game easier... Reply to Fences: A clean desktop for the cluttered user in Personal Computing WinCustomize Forums

Fences is known to have trouble with some other apps hooking into the desktop, some vista, more on XP. Running fences on a dream cause minor problems on vista, and doesn't work at all for people on XP, and I've seen posts about a bunch of other software too. Check the official fences forum for those reports.

Obviously most drives work well for years, even those with a bad reputation. I've seen a HUGE lot of broken deskstars at work (a 600 computer company) where most computers worked fine (pretty much all the computers had deskstars, as hardware was standardized), there was a continuous stream of harddrive failures though, something like 5 each week or so... I wouldn't trust a deskstar to host my recycle bin... As you've noticed, they are majorly unreliable. Most harddrives tend to start sounding funny, and cause minor issues before failing... Deskstars just die, they don't have the nickname deathstars for nothing. Experience tells me you're out of luck when it comes to getting the data out of the drives yourself. Your case *may* be different though, it's hard to tell, as we don't have physical access to check your stuff.

I've never had that bad connection, so it's probably something that is outside stardock that cause it. On a slow day pageloads take ~20 seconds to load for me, which is slow enough for me to complain... Going over 5 minutes for a page is ridiculous, but as I've *never* seen that, I think it's an indication that those pageloads are not caused by stardock servers.
