I suggested no quickstart games as a counter to Advent. I've played many Entrenchment games without quickstart- and even some with pirates. However any game without fast speed is generally assumed to be for new players only- possibly useful as a smurf repellent. Illuminator spam is dangerous because the ships are bugged for extra damage and were too strong anyway, how they evaded a nerf in the last patch was a matter of some incredulity. Quickstart makes early Illu

One of the best RTS ever was Age of Empires, we could borrow from this dated great. There are several standard methods to achieve victory: - defeat all opponents - build a Wonder (vastly expensive, at finish a timer started- if it still stood at the end you won) - Relics victory (collect all 5 relics and hold them in your churches until a timer expired) - timed victory (highest score) - score victory (achieve required score) and also&

"your sova is ****ing OP it can beat 2 carriers of mine and just ***ing cobalts for backup. ridiculous" So this wasn't you in the replay then? That would worry me, mate. Eerie. One of the two better players in the replay was Vasari, he had an Egg and ten assailants against his Advent opponent. If you are beaten, its useful to send a polite "gg" and then watch the replay to see if you can get any hints from the superior play of your opponents.

Is the Skirantra card accurate though? It says 9 Wave but from watching it, this must be each side? 18 Wave would be a base dps of 30, and all the Vasari caps have slightly less base dps than those of other factions. The Antorak is also dubious- base dps 34 would be very much lower than the equivalent ships for other factions- though only if the card is accurate? The Skirantra is a very powerful ship, and I've yet to come across any evidence that it is disa

Maybe a Marza, I've heard they're useful...? Unless you have a moral aversion to them, understandably? I'm surprised by the responses on armour, as from the armour thread I'd gathered that the significant element was that it did buff shields as well as health? You also have to consider that one armour tech does not equal 5% health, only one point of armour does. It is a TEC advantage early, but not as significant as the lack of mobile shield/health re

Having seen the replay, your original description of the battle is very poor, as has been pointed out. It's a 2v2, your side has you as Vasari against a TEC player. The TEC player has two neutrals with four extractors right next to his home, allowing him a very early boost. He builds two civics and takes an adjacent ice than a volcanic with his carrier, it gets to level 3. His roid is on the other side of his home from you and he takes it using the colony/t

You seem to have nurtured a secret prejudice against the 2v2s! I suppose I could rework Hares though the imbalance didn't seem significant- are we restricted to absolutely symmetrical maps? I've also got a couple more 2v2s available from the 'downloads' section of this site- 'The Truest Taste of Freedom' is the download. Is the auto-installer compatible with having the downloads available from this site? I'm not fond of quickstart, so if I had to I'd probably set up

Thanks for maintaining the capship stats sticky Sage, I've often referred to it. After Sage's analysis, I'm not in favour of any improvement to the Skirantra, its already a powerful ship- as is the Sova as Darvin pointed out, so no improvement to heavy strikecraft. No to improved Vertigo as well then. Yeah, the Marza was discussed at length and Missile Barrage is a Level 6 ability, and as soon as there were TEC alternatives they have been taken up. I

This is the Illuminator bug thread, it is stated that the higher damage is because of a change in damage type introduced during 1.04: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/367162/ However JJ was testing the Illuminators because he believed that the previous versions were too strong, this was how he identified the bug. Even if the obscure Kodiak change has had any effect, it can hardly have altered the

How is it possible to believe that the Illuminator got a 3x damage boost on its forward beams- in a patch that was supposed to boost everyones light frigates- and still deny that Advent got a huge advantage from v1.041?? You may have to explain further, but as shield takes damage first, don't the shield regeneration bonuses mean that shield upgrades are the best sort of upgrade? Armour is just improved defence, without any improved regeneration? Howev

Unlike the rest of the game, the caps seem to have become more evenly matched, with just a few tweaks needed to achieve balance. Most of these suggestions are boosts to weaker abilities: Gauss Rail Gun- lower the antimatter cost further, maybe 50? Heavy Strike Craft- for this to be in line with the Halcyon how about 20/35/50 bonus? Target Uplink- add a damage bonus 5/10/15? Magnetize- the max targets seems odd, decrease

TEC does have more chances against Advent when Advent ignore Guardians, and refrain from building Illuminators or repair until the TEC has Kodiaks, as if Illuminators and repair were Tier 5.. or from building phase inhibitors at all. It also helps if they squander caps by advancing them solo into entire fleets... I'd still like to see a replay of a TEC player defeating an equally talented Advent. Repulse outranges both sabotage reactor and EMP, and bugged Illuminators

Thanks for the replay, it's always great when replays are posted. However this seemed a weaker one to me.. I only had time to watch to up to when your first opponent quit, so maybe I missed the best section? Ferdie doesn't seem to take the game seriously after your first ally discos right at the start.. he builds 8 civics and starts asking when you should quit. He also expands into the centre. This leaves your other ally 1v2 and he quits when he gets no hel

Though you claim Advent are beatable if played poorly- and only by TEC!- this can't be your concept of balance? Balance might be achieved when talented players can meet each other on equal terms with any faction? From the original thread it seemed that Illuminators had about a +25% dps due to the bug rather than the +200% dps your someone mentioned. Though its possible that I am mistaken, about +25% dps is how I experience them in the game, p

The mod you want is 'normal start'. It 'adds to the length' of games. Ignore Advent smurfs who whine about it, if they were new they wouldn't appreciate the difference. Have them thrown out of your games. Play appropriate maps for Vasari, not one of the dismal stream of 5v5 single maps- why always single? The PUGs are terrible, and no place to begin to learn to play online. However, I wonder whether the developers have any concern remaining for the g

I'd like the replay from the OP if there is one, it sounds intriguing. The balance problems with Advent are far more serious than only bugged Illuminators, scouts and Repulse. The only solution may be to nerf the entire faction so hard that only a few will play them- then we'll almost be there. The Disciple has a decided advantage against the Cobalt, but the advantage against the Skirmisher is obscene, and won't be countered by a minor increase in Skirmisher dps.&nbsp

I agree that a nerf to Illuminators should be up for discussion, in addition to the much-needed bug fix, as the fix will only restore the previous level of Illuminator spam. Quick start seems to be responsible for some of the early Advent problems, as Advent are supposed to be more hindered in the very early game, and quick start erodes that- but the game can't be balanced for quick start unless we have different settings by faction? Deceiver, have you checke

This is conclusive proof that Magnetic Clouds are underpowered, for the few remaining doubters. The game is allegedly set in space, yet some maps are more like seventeenth-century siege warfare in Flanders, battle over one planet, move on to the next. Where's the vast dark void element?? Let's buff Magnetic Clouds! Add Time Distortions, a Flux Nexus or two, perhaps an Irregular Vortex or a cheeky Spectral Disturbance. And where's a Radioactive Burst when y

I agree that something has to be done about the returning Dark Fleet, the nerf was far too drastic for a very expensive tech. The returns are very marginal, especially with the cooldown having been increased to 10 minutes, and the danger of imbalance seem minimal when it takes eight civic labs to research it. I'd return it to free 25-45 supply, with the increased cooldown... perhaps increase the cooldown slightly, if necessary. Also, having Skirmishers at 7 supply cr

Thanks for these- as I had asked for more 1v1 replays, I feel obliged to comment on these folie a deux, especially when they are TEC victories against Advent. You use a two cap strategy for both of them- this seems to help greatly later when you have to siege planets. However, in both games the Advent player throws his own caps away, and also fails to pursue yours to destroy them. The only time Advent do pursue is against your third cap in one game, but

The normal start is also bugged in v1.041, so that queued extractors at the home planet produce resources before they have completed building. I'd be against a colonise boost for the egg, this would just increase the abilities of one of the most powerful caps. If nano has been nerfed as being over-powerful for a colony cap, Shield Restore could be nerfed as well, I'm not sure why it should be far more rapid than the area health restore from the Skirantra? Though it would take more time, could you play a series of six games on the same map..? Advent vs TEC Advent vs Vasari TEC vs Advent TEC vs Vasari Vasari vs Advent Vasari vs TEC Perhaps the best player should be able to play all the factions- and we'd get a high calibre set of replays for game balance purposes, as if there had been an entire tournament? Maybe we should have a champion-system, like chess or boxing, rather

If it's balanced so that the very best players can play all factions 1v1 then put in replays, that's balanced- but to me there's more wrong with Advent than that, the after-debug Illuminator nerf is just to stop the quick crush... The faction needs the phase inhibitor switch to tier 5 and the repair switch to shields just to start to be consistent with the rest of the game, though that isn't enough. Raging how would you respond with TEC to the Advent tactical problem of a fleet
