Kind of pointless to test what would happen if fighters just stood still in the presence of flaks, when no one uses them like that.
I actually do this ALL the time and it requires much heavier micromanagement, the trade off is that strikecraft live SIGNIFICANTLY longer because the flak can only use a fraction of their power against them, and the same can be said vs other strike craft. Stationary fighters will cream moving ones and bombers due to their attack behavior. H
Oh and the TEC doesn't have tier 1 trade port, unlike the Vasari's tier 3, to help fund its war efforts? Having costs reduced by 8% from a two-level tier2 research is still beaten by TECs easy access to tier1 trade port and lower tier trade upgrades.
N3rull I think you're off 1 tier, i think most people consider tier 0 stuff you're already given (scouts, lfs and colony frigs). Tier 1 requires 1 research lab, tier 2 requires 2 research labs etc. etc. That's the mos
Ironclad made them like this in response to all of the people crying because they couldn't kill the siege frigs fast enough to save their worlds.
I remember those days, but many changes have been made to the game since then, and I think it's safe to start (maybe slowly) reducing that nerf, or re-tooling siege frigates to regain their place in the fleet.
Consider that most fleets are LRF based -- if LRF + Siege attack, no one is going to build Light Frigates specifically to deal with the Siege.
Which is why I think they should be very heavy and let bombers be the hard counter and lrfs be soft counter. With early game fleets being lrf based, and the cost of the damn things, siege spamming won't be a viable strategy, but they will be significantly tougher to kill. Also lets not forget that in entrenchment at tie
'm perplexed why you want to see them in very heavy armour. This would mean they would be countered by bombers and only bombers.
with very heavy armor, it doesnt mean a siege frigate is only counterable by bombers, it just means bomber are the only thing that can deal 100% damage to them. Siege are tier 2 and so are hangars. I feel with heavy armor, hangars will be used more to defend against them. Since siege frigates sole purpose is bombardment, I think they should

WAIT I got the answer for you Raging Use the in-game map designer and make your own. You still get randomly generated maps, but you can set certain parameters for it, I just tested it and it works quite well and was lots of fun.

Im going to say chalk it up to getting map f***ed. It happens to all of us, whether it be no opening roid, or having enemy HWs connected (especially if some1 like JJ is on the other end [e digicons]x_x[/e] ), or even having a bunch of neutrals with no extractors. These things are going to happen on random maps. I'll bet though that somewhere out there is a good map thats well balanced for all races, now if only there was an auto d/l system.
Yes, it is DEFINATELY a lot harder playing Vassari early game with quick start on in my opinion then without it...
Yeah, but I gotta say, I do like the challenge. In team games it'll make you focus more on the long game with Vasari. If you think about it quickstart actually tends to make team games longer, since players are less likely to be destroyed early by a Vasari rush, which is kind of backwards. I'm not a huge fan of quickstart. but 3labs = Lums 3labs also = carriers Really just means Vasari have to work harder than before to stay on top early game. I don't think it throws the balance off a significant enough margin to be removed. But I would like to see more non-quickstart games.
You won't be able to keep that 3k HP starbase alive against 5 ogrovs that a TEC can build in 3 minutes.
You will if you can upgrade your hangars or have some carriers on hand, but thats beside the point. Ogrovs ARE a counter to infant Orkuli. If you don't protect the little thing it'll get chewed up before it matures, but that goes both ways, Ogrovs and Adjudicators will get chewed up without protection too. All assault cruisers/ assault bases are weak t

N3rull, I didn't say anything about any of the starbases having more than just Hp and Weapons. Didn't say anything about Meteors , or frontal shields, or final protocol. Just Hp and Weapons. My assesment was correct for the most part but I did foget 1 thing, against a Transcencia minimal losses to the Ogrovs will be taken, as the starbase begins with 2 squadrons, but nothing near the amount lost to an Orkulus. Despite th

This is almost the exact strategy Rubeeisdabomb uses, except he just lvls his egg to 6 and sucks all your planets up. He'll build loads of carriers and send them to roam around your planets in groups of 15-20, usually with about 70% bombers. Send them deep into your territory taking out buildings along the way, and leading your fleet away from the fringes where his egg is scooping up your planets You can try and chase 'em but he always manages to get away, with relatively low
(I should probably look into one of the graphical mods that I hear fix this)
Indeed one could do this, but for many, like myself, our graphics cards simply can't handle most of the graphics mods out there. Something simple thats included would be great, just so we can see it without having to zoom in and watch the Marza like a hawk, or wait until our entire fleet starts flashing red. Thanks for the input Cykur Oh and BLAIR, You wrote somewhere th

Thanks for all the feed back fellas. It's going to take a me a little time to get to all these great suggestions. I will tell you all that the next topic going up is Siege Frigates, who definitely need some attention. I'll be studying them today to come up with some fixes. N3rull- I have always wanted to do that, but can't figure out how to code that in html on the forums. I see that the example you created has a link to this thread with "get;2293182" on the en

Ok, I'll make it more visible. Mindseye- SBs and Superweapons have been on my mind for a little while, you can expect to see some topics for those added. Carbon- A petition may be a good idea, my only concern is that changing fundamental coding in ICO, and altering the way it works is quite an undertaking and maybe asking a bit much of the developers (who have plenty of things on their plate). Most of the topics on this forum are pretty simple value changes (sa

I hope to god they make the Ui like that of mechwarrior 3, the roaming reticle was the biggest thing I felt that separated the series from other FPSs, and mechwarrior 4 ruined it by making the reticle fixed. And the customizability of 3 was sweet.
Do you want/plan to include other things that have been talked about among the community that are not balanced related?
I think everyone can agree this game would benefit from an auto map downloading system and some sort of ladder/matching system. Don't really think those things are debatable. The devs have certainly considered these things, and whether or not they're working on them is really their business, and there's not much we can really do or say to help
