I vote for a Vasari envoy thats more than a little fond of sending down phase missles when the guy on the other end of the comms gets a lil "snippy", or just hurling them out the embassies airlock. For another, executing someone would be wasteful, and they don't have time for su

Yeah, I kinda just rattled that off on the fly, though I do spend a lot of time thinking about fluff. At the risk of derailing the thread, I love fluff, and Sins fluff is beautifully open to interpretation. Since no single faction is the good guy (they all have their sins , as it were), there are numerous entry points and opportunities for textual poaching (the latter being a technical term coined by Henry Jenkins for "interpreting a text the way you need to interpret it
It's all there in the manual (on page 6, to be precise):
Though most of the species the Vasari encountered were primitive and peacefully subjugated, more advanced civilizations were harshly enslaved. Once conquered, these species were integrated into Vasari society as "valued citizens," giving them minimal standing in the Empire.
It's not much of a stretch between this description and the passage I wrote. Advanced civilizations, if they resist, are conqu

Bear in mind that there are people on these planets prior to colonization. The local militia you cheerfully demolish in order to colonize a planet is not just guarding an empty world -- there are independent civilians down there before you send colonists. Since the Vasari and Advent invaded Trader space, we can assume that these planets are home to independent Trader civilizations who haven't yet gotten the memo to join the Coalition . Presumably, when colonization occurs, t
I'm generally not a fan of hard caps under any circumstances. That said, I can see why someone would want to set up a game in which super weapons were limited. How about a pre-game four-option toggle? No superweapons (I don't like it, but I put it there for consistency) No more than X superweapons can be built at a time No more than X superweapons can be built at a time PER SOLAR SYSTEM Infinite superweapons Comments
I find myself in agreement with JuleTron. The reason I suggested using Subversion as an ability to totally shut down a planet's production is because the Marauder simply doesn't have the firepower to raid a planet the way a Sova can. ...say, what if Subversion shut down turrets? =) So, Subversion idea: Duration: 30/60/90/120 seconds Shuts down orbital weapon platforms and hangar defenses Shuts down culture production </
An ability permitting Adjudicators to switch between single target damage and multiple target damage would be fine by me. =) In all seriousness: there are times when you need to put the hurt on multiple structures at once, and there are times when a single structure has to die, STAT. Being able to toggle between two different fire modes would facilitate both.
Oddly, I found the voice acting for the TEC and the Advent to be top notch compared to other games (particularly the voice acting and script in Starcraft II). To me, the Advent voices represent a chilling combination of enlightened child and serene, iron-willed adult; they also get bonus points because they're not at all coy or hypersexualized, like women in other video games so often are. Likewise: to me, the TEC voice actors for the Sova, the Akkan, the Kol, the Dunov, t

They are after all spewing propaganda all over your populace, so it's only natural that your people would like them more. Actually they did add some sort of culture component to the list of relationship modifiers, but I haven't really looked to
Getting your titan to level 6 will probably still be faster though.
There's the rub. Maybe I'm just a wide-eyed idealist, but one of the things I like about Sins is that, on the surface at least, you don't have to bombard planets to win. Ideally, culture would reward alternative, civilian-driven playstyles and sudden tech-switches. In practice, however, military solutions are always faster and culture is simply
I know the developers have boosted the Advent's culture in a number of ways (by allowing it to help them block phase missiles and such), but has any thought been given to the rate at which culture actually takes out a planet? Here's a common scenario in small or medium random galaxies. I notice enemy culture creeping down the phase lane towards my outlying planets. Since I haven't spread my own culture yet or moved my capital planet, let's say my allegia
I remember. It just reminded me of Xenogears, that's all. :P
I don't know if anyone here remembers an old-school Playstation J-RPG called Xenogears . Suffice to say it's what would happen if Friedrich Nietzsche, Jacques Lacan, Sigmund Freud, and Hideaki Anno had a J-RPG as a love child. Well, I remember this game fondly from my high school days (before I outgrew such things). And it occurs to me that some of the Rebellion developers might have played it, too. Exhibit A: The Eradica Titan: <img src="http://images2
I was thinking the same thing, AJ, but I'm disinclined to do it, if only because of the number of potentially problematic gameplay elements it could produce. Vanilla Sins had achieved only a tenuous balance of power between flak, LRFs, and bombers; Rebellion adds Titans and Corvettes, which means it's going to be a while before the ripples in the metagame subside. TBH, I'd be more comfortable with an escalating level of power per level, a-la 1/2/3/5 or 2/4/6/10, to reward
I'm a fan of the suggestion to give LFs a late-game armor upgrade to make them less vulnerable. That said: it only makes sense for units like LRFs and caster cruisers to auto-target LFs first, if only because LRFs are designed to eat LFs for breakfast, and LFs are the biggest threat to caster cruisers. From what I've seen, HCs actually auto-target LRFs first, and then move on to caster cruisers.
The way the LRF hard-counters the LF is that their damage type gets some sort of bonus vs the armor type of the light frigate, correct? What if we went with Volt's suggestion and reduced that value slightly in some sort of a mod? We would have to see if that messed up any other ships/counters though... And yeah, scratch my EA idea. Was kinda half-baked anyways. A bonus to mitigation might be good, but you still have that max

Volt, I appreciate the effort. In fact, I give you karma for it. I don't think you were being a jerk, either -- it's what's called "constructive criticism," and it's extraordinarily useful. ...unfortunately, you wasted all that effort, because I accounted for most of your concerns after Bilun joined the fray. =) So come on back and weigh in on some of the new ideas. It's much appreciated; in fact, I'm giving you karma for it.
