We should probably set something up community-wise to make a regular standardized map-pack release. I have a friend who can even set us up with installer programs to get rid of the nasty install issues.

The problem with a direct comparison of capital carriers to carrier cruisers is that the carrier cruiser is far more limited. It requires antimatter to build its strike craft, it doesn't have any weapons, and it also has no special abilities. As a result, if capital ships were equal to carrier cruisers in terms of number of squads deployed, they would be superior overall by a massive margin. I think the problem right now with their strike craft, if anything,
I don't have a problem with that. In all actuality we'll probably collaborate on setting something up so other mappers can submit their work into the compilation.
where I needed to use trigonometry to figure out exactly where to place everything.
Everything? Jeeze, what a nerd. I only did it for the homeworlds :-P I actually like looking at other people's work, contrasting different styles and design philosophies. Even though we both pursue a philosophy of symmetry, we do it in different ways. I like that diversity.
Totally in agreement. I nominate Dirty Sanchez since he has seniority.
Escalation is one of my favourites. If I catch you online I'll certainly have you a game!
For my part, I'm willing to put up with the bad behavior and take my fair share of lumps for the multiplayer experience. It's not perfect, but when it works it's awesome.
I've been mapping with GalaxyForge for some time now, but I've had all too few opportunities to play with my creations online. What few games I've had with them have been great, so I've decided to publish a sample of my best work in a map pack. It's my hope to arrange some games with these maps online, and if anyone would be interested in setting up a game on one of these maps I'd love to join in. You can download the map pack from RTSCommunity.com: http://www.rtscom
I love your work, Dirty Sanchez. I also do galaxyforge work, and it's always nice to play another mapper's creations and compare style and ideas. Maybe I'll catch you online some time and we can have a game ^_^ As for installing Sins maps, the directories are: Vista users: C:\Users\ \AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge XP users: C:\Documents and Settings\ \Local Settings\A
Some people out there are just jerks. Some people are well-meaning and simply don't want to jeopardize the game on account of some unestablished player names. I can understand that excuse, but joining newbie only games, kicking people after letting them wait in lobby for nearly an hour, and all this other crap is another matter entirely. Makes me angry when people act this way, because it's just ruining the game for everyone else.
Aside from what the others have already mentioned:
4. Begin research on more logistics slots
You seem to jump into this a little too early. If you need those logistics slots it's one thing, but if you don't it's another. My personal view on the subject is to colonize new planets for cheap logistics, rather than shelling out cash on your homeworld. If you're not going to put up those labs and use your new logistics immediately, it's not wo
If it's with someone you supposedly trust, why do we even need the feature? We already have tribute feature and abandon planet feature.
Missile Batteries- Alright, it deploys a mini-LRM, and is actually pretty good when fully upgraded. The main problem with it is that the AM cost is ridiculously high; 125 AM. This doesn't become a problem later on, but can hurt Sova when in an early-game fight.
Totally agree; missile batteries need an antimatter cost decrease.
Embargo- It's ridiculously situational. Great on small maps, and that's about it. It just gets really annoying how this is s
Okay, let me express this as best I can. I cannot forsee a situation where I would sell a planet under honest circumstances for anything short of a king's ransom, and chances are if anyone was wealthy enough to pay it they could sweep me aside by brute force anyways. With this in mind, the only case I would sell a planet is if it's about to be attacked or as part of a dirty dealing with a third party to see it immediately taken from its buyer. With that in mind, the buyer
Unless we get a dev post to the contrary, we can only presume that diplomacy will work like Entrenchment, and be its own executable. You'll be able to see entrenchment and vanilla games, but you'll have to boot entrenchment or vanilla respectively to join them. As others have mentioned, we already have confirmation that entrenchment will be a prereq for diplomacy.
As I understand there is no squirmish/sandbox play, and it is putting me off the order for now.
You're kidding me? I was considering buying it up until I read that. What were the devs thinking?
The problem is more complex than pro vs newbie. Let's illustrate this with a hypothetic situation. Here are the (fictional) players in the game: SuperAwesome (team captain; very experienced, has a record with hundreds of games) UltraPro (team captain; also very experienced with hundreds of games under his belt) TheVeteran (has played hundreds of games, solid player, but not as good as the pros) RisingStar (only played 60
Capital ship crew upgrades make it more expensive to purchase a brand new capital ship than to replace an old one (since you don't need to repurchase the crew upgrade). I think it makes sense to let a player recover from a dead capital ship at a lower cost than buying a new one; losing out on the experience of the dead capital ship is a pretty big catastrophe as it is.
A direct metal for crystal trade would actually be nice, as very often early game you have a shortage of one and an excess of the other, and you're stuck getting gouged twice by the black market, once on the sale and once on the purchase.
Ah, I see what you're getting at Buttons. After logging on your account, you need to create a username. Click the "add player" button to do so. You can then select the username and play online with it. If you're getting held up at this screen, you're not actually online yet!
Wow, this degenerated into a flame war faster than expected -_- At this point, it's clear we aren't getting a dev post, and nothing but a dev post is going to clarify the topic at hand. I'd say it's time for a moderator to lock this.
If the Sova costs five time what the Percheron costs
Command-wise it's actually only 3.5 times as expensive, and eventually it does work its way up to 7 squads, plus loads of special abilities. As well, capital ship carriers don't need to use antimatter to replace strike craft squads. And this is before we consider it actually has its own attack (if a weak one) and special abilities. I don't think the problem is strike craft; capital ships hav
The underlying problem is that your record is unestablished. You had no games played, and therefor the other players in the game had no idea how experienced you were. You could be a completely new player, or you might be a very experienced player who had just made a new account. There is simply no way of knowing, and unfortunately many on both sides of the equation lie about their skill level. In practice, we online often use "pug" (pick up game) to decide teams.&nbs
You still need more specifics. The biggest issue I have here is that this isn't a two-way relationship. There are third parties floating around. What rules are you suggesting to prevent dirty dealings by the seller and buyer? How will you deal with possible back-room dealing with third parties without actually imposing limitations on unaffiliated third parties? It seems to me this a very mucky place to be treading. The concept seems nice, but I see practica
I think each capital carrier has its own unique issues, and they really can't be lumped together in a single category. The Halcyon is in no way weak or underpowered as a package. To the contrary; it's one of the game's most powerful. Its issue is more that it has some very strong skills, and some very weak ones. Skilled Drone Anima is a piece of shit, as is its ultimate Anima Tempest. In the same breath, its two other abilities are some of the ga
