4) A target capped (32? or 48? or even 64?) column area with a 3000m? or 4000m? radius. -dolynick
You rock. I say go for 4km. That's an area of 40km^2, which seems big, but is 12% of the original area. do you know if it will target ships which wander in the area during the MB? If so, say 48, if not say more.

Hey, dolynick, was it you that had mentioned putting MB into a column in a mod to test it? I would love to try that out if I can find someone to make an advent battleball to fire it into. I think the replay could be a motivational youtube hit.
thats the most ridiculous intellectually dishonest argument against a target cap i've ever seen. you basically said "they can't change it because...someone will cheat the changed system".Actually, it sounded mroe like "You can't target cap it. They'll just throw more ships at it!"
Maybe this'll be clearer, "You can't target cap it. They'll just throw ships at it that are useless otherwise and they'll throw enough to completel
my opinion is that it needs a target cap and it needs a change to its channeling time and damage per wave. these numbers would have to be thoroughly tested to see what the right levels would be. obviously it should also make some kind of big red flashing light animation so people can tell whats going on. at the moment i'm leaning on target cap in the neighborhood of 24 ships (still a large number, would be the

Sweet. It was a FFA, and number two was the guy trying to get out of there. Number one was giving me some pointers until he sacked my HW (which was fookin wild to watch a SB and marza detonate at the same moment). But I wanted to ride it all the way down and try to learn something about defense, and I did make it extremely costly, so that was nice. Number one never asked for a quit, so I think I understood the dynamic right.

By the USN's definition a cruiser is a capital ship. Their current model has a crew less than 375. The old WWII huge battleships had crews about 800. The space shuttle, which doesn't even have any missiles strapped to the sides takes 7. I'm beginning to think any efforts here for a direct, or even classwise, comparison are pretty moot.

So, as a matter of etiquette, when the other side starts saying gg, are you supposed to surrender or something? One of the players in my first actual game got pretty testy after he conceded. Ofc, I'm sure part of it was that it took me over an hour to figure out how to message them.

LFs range in crew complement from 75-150. Roughly the equivalent of Archer's Enterprise to Voyager (though Voyager may be a bit bigger) or the smaller of the two USCG cutters. Cap Battleships range from 2500-9000 (but Vasari live in their ships). Enterprise D was between 1000 and 1100, which I don't think would last long compared to Sins caps. A Nimitz is ~5200 including the air wing and maintenance. The smaller frigates are overcrewed and the caps are

Just to be clear, are you advocating spamming as the most viable strategy? **edit** Looking at the rock/paper/scissors balance thing, I think you could work a mid-late "cap ship killer" vessel. Something conceptually like a bullet proof vest with big gun sticking out the front of it and nothing but jello for protection in the rear. Something you bring in after the enemy is engaged that rushes up through the fray and puts all of its juice on the cap s

Man . . . the rogue nanobots thing is so overdone in recent years (see Stargate: SG1). And the "we opened a door to a place we didn't even dream of and found a crazily overpowered race bent on destruction" smells a lot like the Babylon 5: Third Space movie. Having said that, I think this is a better option. Rather than watching the movie- the third space aliens came from a place beyond "hyperspace" and the most powerful race in the galaxy had thought it would be a good ide

Maybe a good way to balance something that could be a tremendous cash cow would be to deny it any offensive or defensive abilities. A good argument can be made for having a buffed media center upgrade and buffed trade port upgrade as part of its own developement, but then the sphere has tied up all of the logistic and tactical slots available in the gravity. This is a huge creation after all. Perhaps that one special ability, I know I just said no defense/offense abilities

Hey summs. I didn't know you'd ever played. The base game is an extremely aggressive game. It is heavily weighted towards playing manuever warfare over attrition warfare. I'm not 100% convinced that was the initial intent of the game, but that's how it plays out. Had I been in the situation you describe, I probably would have fortified the bejesus out of the conquered system with defensive structures and then not worried about it, using my fleet to bumrush one
