I always build the workshop first (unless I just happen to be sitting on a materials resource), and get pioneers going asap. Then arcane laboratory or study, depending on which is most needed. I.e. if I find a library, it's arcane. If I fine an arcane resource, then it's the study. Due to the food issues, markets are usually a 'luxury' choice if I have boatloads of food, otherwise I've been avoiding them lately. If there is a material resource nearby (lumber mi

If this were implemented, I'd suggest that there would be special lair battle maps, in place of the plethora of battle maps we have now. A single lair map would be easiest, but perhaps clearing a lair would involve two or three maps? I.e. Lair Entrance, Main Lair, Throne Room/Queen's Chamber. If multiple maps were involved, a player could 'turn back/retreat off of' any given map and give up on clearing the lair, but of course the potentially weakened lair would still be active.<

This has been mentioned in a few threads before, but I felt it could use it's own thread. With the earlier patches (say 1.06-1.07), there were a fair number of monsters wandering around the map. I for one really enjoyed hunting them down, which incidentally distracted me from destroying the other Sovereigns for a bit. It'd be nice if there was a slider/option box where we could adjust monster frequency, as well as simply saying whether or no

I'd like to see 'clearable' monster lairs. The lairs would spawn monsters until you physically go in and clear them out. Using whatever 'spawning' formula is appropriate. Finding them would probably involve moving into the lair square. You'd get a dialogue stating you'd found the lair entrance, and it would ask you if you'd like to enter... Even if you chose not to enter the lair at that time, there would be a chance of an immediate encounter

Split it equally between the AI's using the diplomacy/trade screen. Pay, say 100,000 gildar for a single metal resource. The AI won't say no as long as you give them at least the 'going rate'.

If you name your cities 'Troius City', etc, then you can change the word City to reflect what kind of city it is. Example Using Google translator: A latin name for Coin: Monetalis A latin name for Arcane: Arcanus (imagine that!) A latin name for Knowledge: Scientia So you end up with: Monetalis Troius Arcanus Troius or Scientia Troius I use a different language, but you get the idea! </p

The Mana system is going 'global' shortly. If I understand this right, ALL of your spellcasters will draw from the same Mana pool. I'd imagine that it will regenerate a little faster than 1 Mana a turn. In the meantime, be thankful that your children have regenerating Mana in combat (unless that changed recently)!

I like the idea of whomever going first only getting half of their action points on the first turn (be it attacker or defender). Something else that might be implementable on the short term would be to allow ANY unit that is attacked (be it ranged or melee) to immediately conduct one counterattack, up to their counterattack allotment. This way, if an archer or channeler is targetted, but not destroyed, they can immediately counterattack 'at range'. <

I was thinking about what it was about Galactic Civilizations II that I haven't really seen here that I miss. I really enjoy the well scripted replies from GalCiv II! The Snathi saying "don't hurt us", the Terrans with their 'What's up?", etc. I'm sure the developers will flesh this out in Elemental as work on the game continues. I'm less likely to simply annihilate the minor guys if there's a reason to keep them around. Decent interaction via Diplomacy

I think, if you want to do something a little different, you could have the streams run along the edges of the squares, instead of through the middle. I already think of the narrow 'channels' between landmasses as Mississippi/Nile/Amazon sized rivers, hence why I never really noticed the lack of them. It'd be cool if there were resources in the oceans/wide channels (fishing grounds), that could be used for food, etc. Or Water Shards in the water...

I still like my idea of higher level champions giving a bigger bonus. Gives you an 'excuse' to put them at risk in the wild for a bit before 'retiring' them to a desk job. For example, an Administrator gives a 10% bonus currently. For every level above 1, he would provide an additional 1% bonus. It's not game breaking, and would make your higher level champions a little more interesting.

Hey! Just thought I'd mention this. Occasionally, when I go to the improvement build screen, after I click 'done' the game doesn't 'zoom' back to the angled view. I can still move around and scroll around the map, but since there are 4x the number of squares I end up with half the usual movement rate across the map (due to the extra squares). Quitting the game and restarting/reloading fixes the problem.

I'm running with 2GB of ram and a Radeon HD2600 with 256 MB Dedicated and up to 255 MB more shared memory, AMD Turion X2 TL-64 (2200 MHZ), and Vista Home Premium. With the latest patch I can usually go a number of turns between crashes, especially if I shut off as many programs in the start tray as possible beforehand (antivirus, etc.). Early game I can usually go a LOT of turns (100+), but late game, when there are a lot of my units on the board, lockups come more f

I miss venturing out into the wild, beating up monsters and taking their lunch money. I was really enjoying facing bigger and badder monsters constantly! Now, I just go beat up on the other kingdoms/empires, which somehow doesn't have the same 'adventuring' flavor to it. Now, you actually have to go track the monsters down, and someone already stole most of their lunch money...

I've followed the Civ games for a while as well. I got Civ IV for Christmas, with the expansions. Gotta say the game bored me right out of the gate. I liked the old interfaces better, and I just couldn't get excited about the new 'features'. So, I wasn't planning on Civ V anyways. Now Alpha Centauri, that was a cool game! Too bad the rights went into limboland and there won't be a sequel (at least not an official one). I'll always have GalCiv II i

Back when hordes of monsters were constantly knocking at your door, having a 5 mana teleport was REALLY NICE. It gave you a chance to react to newly spawned stacks around your empire, without having to give up on exploring entirely in the process. I'd say that in a multiplayer game, a 15 mana teleport makes sense. In a single player sandbox, with lots of monster spawning (there should be a slider for this btw, I enjoy killing monsters), a cheaper teleport wo

This game doesn't feel so much like a 'wargame' to me. Yeah this stack has been kicking some tail, but wandering the wastelands with a dragon by your side is just too damn cool! I love how he is too big for his square! Warlords III stacks never looked this badass!

Just a quick request (I haven't tried the latest patch yet, downloading now). Between now

The smithy idea would introduce extra resources to track, which may not be desirable. Sounded good at the time, though. The point right now is that if you have shards, you are uber. If you don't, you are at a disadvantage. If EVERYONE has more or less 'equal' access to the shards they need, then everyone benefits equally. Having to find a fire shard halfway across the map, through several enemy players, while the guy next t

Hey y'all! While we wait for the new hotfix, I've been pondering a few things about the game, and perusing a number of the threads here. It's good that we have so many people interested in this game, even if we have to weed through several dozen new posts every time we visit this board! I actually think the current magic system is pretty cool (balance tweaks notwithstanding), and hate to see it go. I don't know what the 'global mana po
