Hi there, Ubercat.
I'm playing a game now where one of the minor races stole all the tech of a major civ and wants to trade it to me for one or more worlds. When my turn started, I went to the trade screen with this minor civ and noticed that he had a ton of techs; certainly enough to indicate a technology theft. I have no apparent means of making the trade, however. I offered him a midling value world and he wouldn't give me even one tech for it. What's the trick to maki

They are whining about me killing them all by cutting their lims off one by one and them burning them... such babies!
Good for you, mate. [e digicons][/e] I have to also throw in my 2 cents about the Thalan. I've played 4 ToA games so far, and each time the Thalan are the #1 race in the galaxy. They even wiped the floor with the Dread Lords in one gam
1. I remember from the first Gal Civ that the interface, the screen for example, would change to take on a more ominous look once you became evil. I haven't noticed this happening in TA. Even though I have xeno ethics and have chosen evil as my alignment. Has this graphic feature been removed since Gal Civ I or am I missing something?
I never played GalCiv1. I have never seen this feature ever playing GalCiv2. Sounds like an awe

In a game last night, as a civilization trying to be Good, I found myself in a predicament as I found a planet that offered +42% starship bonus if I chose the Evil option. I don't plan on conquering other worlds, but let's face it I will need ships in the future for some reason (pirates, peacekeepers, etc). What to do? What to do? The Fool to Incredible list describes the intelligence level of your AI opponents, and not necessarily the difficulty of the game. The Cakewalk to Suicidal is. The reason why they are separate elements is because you can customize the intelligence of the races, so you could have some really smart and some really dumb AI opponents in the same campaign. Whenever you have a mixed bag of AI intelligence, the game tries to average it out to determine an overall difficulty l

Just the thought of a fleet of those things squaring off with an enemy fleet made me chuckle. You need to put streamers on the end of the handlebars, though, for the full effect. Maybe

What is your monitor resolution size, and is the game set to that size? I ask because I remember reading a post here that small resolution size led to options being "bumped" off, and in your screenshots it appears your options take up all the space available. For me, the options only take up two columns: So, as a quick experiment, see if you can increase your screen resolution, increase the resolut
While I did research up to two levels of SB defenses, I never had the option to put shields/armor/point defense on the Influence and Econonic starbases. Did I need to go another tech higher, or are defensive military upgrades limited to the Military starbases? As for the Thalans, I eventually crushed them (and really, I should, playing at Easy), although the culture war was ugly for a while. I'm keep
4. Do I need to hook up my star bases? Right now, only the Ascension SB is actually producing. Not sure what status screen it is, but it claims I don't have any SB bonuses.
You may have figured this out by now, but you need to send more Construction ships to the starbases to upgrade them with bonus modules. The Ascension starbase has no upgrades so that's why only one ship is enough for it to begin producing.

I've encountered one example where there was a positive benefit to choosing the "Good" option. It was a weird scenario where there were benefits all around. Like if you chose the "Evil" path you got a Planetary Production bonus, I forget what "Neutral" had, but choosing "Good" netted you a Diplomacy bonus. I've also run into a few bugged scenarios that involved money where choosing "Good" offered less of a penalty.
I also think upgrading ships can't defend themselves.
This is correct. Ships while upgrading also have their hitpoints reduced to 1/1, so be careful when upgrading them out in open space. They're sitting ducks. Also, the farther away that ship is from a friendly planet or space station, the longer it takes for the upgrade to be completed. I always do my upgrades near my colonies so the job is done in

Thanks for the reply. The first game I encountered them, they were limited to Frigates, Escorts, and later had fighters. This second time I was pleasantly surprised to find this: Problem is...it has no defenses and a I chose the Super Warrior ability which I've come to realize makes warfare one-sided and boring unless the enemy has superior defenses and numbers. The only thing the

Some truly great ship designs here. You all are very talented naval architects. [e digicons][/e] Here's my contribution: the Excalibur. I borrowed midnightrunner's "gun turrets" design. Yeah, they're just for show, but I liked what he did. For some reason I've always had a fascination with a design such as this. A circular hull with missile weaponry compact

Okay, not quite. Hello, everyone. Long time player, first time poster. Played vanilla GalCiv2: DL for a long time before getting the expansions. I have some concerns about the easy Dread Lords who show up in the Sandbox games. This is the second time I've seen them and have to say, I'm rather disappointed. They're not a threat at all. Maybe if they show up really early on then yeah, but
