A rook needs good teammates who will tp in to gank for you, because if all 3 of them come after you there isn't much you can do. In a 1v1, if you want to use a Rook, get amulet of teleportation so you can teleport everywhere to capture flags, and set up a few towers to push creep waves forward.
There's no such thing as a lame strategy in Demigod. There is always a counter. If the strategy leads you to a win, then congrats and just keep it up. Trust me, the other team would also pull of the same strategy to get a win.
