I'd like to suggest another thing, to avoid unnecessary flames and endless discussions about the same problems. It's really fairly simple. Create a "READ BEFORE YOU POST: Reported bugs" thread as a sticky on several (applicable) forums. * Problems that are technical/on the user's end can have a simple link to a topic teaching them how to solve it. * People can read which problems have already been reported and have been picked up by GPG/SD as broken
So does that mean because I bought the game on Impulse yet live in the UK, I should go on the Atari forums? Other than that, an interesting post.
SD has stated that they are responsible for all digital downloads.
This was the biggest mistake and it's SD's fault because you could have postpone the release date by a couple of months and make DG's MP work with either Gamespy or GfWL, and not risk it with some untested p2p netcode (Raknet). All of these problems could have been avoided by just postponing the release.
It's not that simple. Game studios have contracts, publishers have contracts, lots of money is invested (could run in the milli
@ opening post I love this update. As a programmer (sort of) I love the technical stuff. If you ever feel like it post another technical thread. I'm sure the ones that understand it find it an intresting read. I'm wondering one thing, about RakNet. It is ofcourse true that often times it's better to 'fix things yourself' as it's usually quicker. 2 parties mean that party A has to convey the problem to party B, things are misunderstood, have to be cleared up

This happens a lot while playing Sedna, your buddy will feel free to chase into the towers trying to get a first kill after getting an earlier heal (or even without getting heals beforehand). He always goes to far, in the belief that some random other dude will be there to heal him up as his about to die. Then w
How about a working pantheon first (as opposed to the completely broken state it is in now) before we (and they) start even thinking about extending functionality. The only things that works at the moment is custom games (and single player skirmish if you consider that a feature). In order to get any sort of working automatching team tournament the player base has to grow substantialy. There are barely enough players now t
Again, posts like this make the case that it's a mistake to do these journals because users simply glomb on to the easiest target of their ire. Since no one from Atari or GPG or Raknet are posting but Stardock is we're getting our name smeared.
They are not, the problem is that you can't chose who reads them and who doesn't :) People who are smart enough to know who to point fingers at (if that is constructive at all) are
Well it should be fairly easy for GPG to point out some settings that will help your cpu and thus sim speed. Or maybe they could up the priority of sim calculations and leave the graphics for whatever cpu power is left after you get sim speed = 1.
Well distracting a group of minions could screw up the 'meet point' but I don't see that being a problem. It's just another strategic option to think about. Do I hold up an enemy group of minions so my own can go straight to base or not?
No you're right, soldiers on operations sit around all day eating pizza and watching television, they have hot showers and have a lie-in until 1100 everyday. Nah leave it. On the internet everyone suddenly is a filthy rich godlike handsome looking guy that works 22 hours a day without ever making a mistake, while also helping poor kids in africa, owning a ferrari, having a supermodel as a girlfriend and ofcourse they know everything about programming bytecode and could code their own OS better than Windows in about 2 weeks and every problem they ever face is never their fault. Welcome to the internet.
Forgive me if this idea has been posted before, I don't read all multiplayer topics. The idea I'm having is simple: there have been a lot of complaints about not ping, but Sim speed. Players with low Sim speed will slow down multiplayer games, thus ruining the fun for others. How about GPG or SD implements some kind of small benchmark for sim speed. I understand sim speed is mostly about cpu. I've seen other games with 'benchmarks', so
Please don't add all of this information. The result will be a simple X - Y + Z = WIN. Knowing all of this will not make it a game of skill, but a game of predictability. And for me, predictability equals no fun whatsoever.
Love the idea. One small thing bothers me though. If I were a DG and I'd kill the group of enemy minions closest to their base, my group of minions would immidiatly start attacking their citadel, as there is little else to protect them? You mentioned towers but I don't see them on the map yet. This is something to thing about, but probably with some tuning you can still make it an awesome map. Maybe also worth scaling it up just a tiny bit and making it 2 vs 2.
I am more concerned with Stardock. Sins of the Solar Empire was a terrific success but they are too busy with Impulse in the hopes of becoming the next Steam. I wonder how much different Demigod would have been if Stadock abandoned all the money and time wasted on Impulse and just concentrated on developing good games. P2P was a mistake.
P2P wasn't a mistake, the code they licensed was. But you hardly can blame them for

How long did you run the memtest program? 1 cycle is not enough, some faults happen seldomly but can regularly crash 1 certain type of game. I've had this before. WOW crashed every so often, and only WOW, no other application, and I couldn't find out why. I was raiding at the time so I wanted it fixed. Memtest did not indicate an error after 30 minutes of testing. But I kept having the errors. Then later I ran the test the whole night, running over 6+ hours (I don't sle
