There is a game mechanic to limit colony spam: it's called a military.

Sigh. Why does every game have to be a role playing game? Isn't there anyone else who just wants a competitive turn based strategy game? I hate feeling so alone in this world.
With the exception of close friends, no one is going to play this game with you for 2 months. And even at that, how many games do you think you'll play? Probably 2 or 3 MAX. Most likely you'll just do it once and spend the rest of the time trying to plan a second game. Multiplayer just isn't very practical over 2 hours. And honestly, if you need more time than that to figure out who is the better player, you're doing something wrong. Sure,
Honestly, the barrier to multiplayer is the game completion time these turn based strategy games like to shoot for. WHY can't you design a game that's estimated to finish within 2 hours? Not every turn based strategy game has to be an epic.
I just wanted the $10 off for a game I was going to buy anyway. Multiplayer TBS from a reputable company? Auto-purchased.
You're delusional. The stats speak for themselves. Civ V is one of the most played games on steam.
Thanks for the suggestion of Dominion 3. Loving it so far! Yes, the graphics are terrible, but thank goodness someone took a lesson of the older TBS games and used simultaneous turns with end turn processing. There is no way to have a large multiplayer turn based game without that. I'm really not sure why the industry moved away from that style (Conquest of the New World, Deadlock 1 & 2). Don't get me wrong, with a limited number of players (as in only t
If you can't attack early, there is no point to the early units. In my opinion, if you're getting to the end game units, your opponent is doing it wrong. There is no such thing as a rush. There is such a thing as too little defense, too late.
I am very new to Elemental and have not yet experienced the 3 guys killed 200 enemies problem, but if this is the case, it seems they need to add a "stamina" mechanic, that after so many actions, defense and attack begin to drop. So many turns of "rest" that are not interrupted by damage or action can refresh those troops. Maybe not this exact mechanic, but it is an idea.
I can't find it now so perhaps my mind is just making stuff up, but I could have swore I read somewhere on this forum that if I buy the game now I will get the expansion for free when it comes out. I am about to add Elemental to my cart via Impulse, but I do not see such a statement. Is this true or am I crazy?
Thanks for the replies. Stardock has a history of creating amazing games. It must be really painful that some are so upset with the quality of Elemental. I suppose I will wait until these details are fully flushed out. These guys take a lot of pride in their work, so I have no doubt the end product will be very good.
Hmmm, I have this creeping suspicion I just asked a really dumb question...
Hello all, I have not yet purchased Elemental, but am on the search for a good modern turn-based multiplayer strategy game. Would one of you who enjoy the game be willing to describe how a typical multiplayer match in Elemental plays out? Are turns simultaneous or one-by-one? Do battles happen at the end of everyone's 'end turn' or are turns played out like a real time strategy and once the order is given the battle starts (interrupting other players' turns in the ca
I personally don't think GalCiv2 would work well with the current mechanic as a multiplayer game. In order for it to be a multiplayer game, turns would need to be simultaneous, which would require reworking unit movement in some fashion. I wouldn't want it handled the same way Civ5 is handled where unit movement is processed by whoever clicks the fastest. The best example I can give as far how simultaneous movement should work would be Conquest of the New World. Turns
+1 to No Tactical battles.
Deadlock 2 did a fine job of being turned based multiplayer (but failed in other areas, like single player campaign and AI that worked). The trick is to build a game that gets to the point, quickly. This game doesn't have this problem, but games like Civ V have frequent down times where you have nothing to do but wait. There should rarely be a turn where you literally do nothing. Not in the beginning and not in the end. This comment has nothing to d
Change the game so that my strategy wins.
Ah, if you haven't played Sins of a Solar Empire or Galactic Civ II (complete) you're missing out!
If not already said, many people view single player as training for multiplayer. If there isn't multiplayer, they don't feel there is a point.
