If you have a card reader for like an SD card or something attached, sometimes windows gets confused about drives. Maybe a network shared storage drive? (I don't think so). The other possibility is its a virtual drive run by a program like Daemon tools and I think Windows 7 may have a similar application (at least some versions of it do)...this is the one I'd check first. Or it may be someone in the game is actually a spirit and has posseseed your computer in ord

I was going to suggest the mods were mixed regading one of the above. Mine all render fine (I have not tried a save game with the new one yet). Polar pinch is noticable on all planets but quite modest with one exception. One of the Ice type planets has a distinctly disjointed north and south polar view and distorted seams in relation to the rest of the planets. Another ice planet shows fine but one is off. I'll try on a larger map with more planets la

In regards to the above, that sounds like a great topic for another thread! Stress has actually done something to improve things with other's in mind and it's fully to his credit. We're looking for that update as it sounds like this is going to really help game play--no pressure though, Major. After this you should be promoted to at least Colonel Stress .

I'm sorry he isn't enjoying it. I understand his frustration. The issue he has with the game is due to PEBKAC . I don't really know if there is a fix or work-around by Stardock for that yet. And you can call me names and insult me but you can never take my FREEEEEDOOOOM! ...to post on the forum :) Not to mention he didn't even tell me thanks for the karma. This post should really be retitled, Slow Game Play
so if YOU'RE gonna be an ass, do it on some one elses thread
By "ass" you mean not whining with you? Sorry. I gave you some karma. I hope that shows my sincerity.

Ignoring the juvenile whining...the pirates are a factor of the AI and diplomatic options now--thats why they were mentioned. They are integral to playing--like it or not. You mentioned fps and I suggested some fixes and you asked if it added depth which I gave my take on but I take it what you are really saying is you came on here just to gripe and moan. I'd suggest hte "Grow Up" mod or perhaps the "We don't really care thread" if that's all you are after. To play t

It would be a lot more useful and fun if it affected ships passing through. One solution would be have two effects for a gas giant...the grav well effected in a torus around it with one effect and the more severe one inside the torus close to the planet. If there was a risk/advantage to each it might bring them into play more often. Maybe the damage reduction in the well except where the explosive damage area occurs.

The patch helped tremendously with the desyncs in game. I would also recommend trying the Optimization mod that should be updated tomorrow--it helps a lot with speed. The pirates are hard (for me to balance). I love harder pirates but they lag the game terribly in great numbers and are so powerful that their raids can unbalance map design strategies. For example, if you made a ma

Thanks--I just haven't had it happen yet. The damage reduction I did know but I thought you could collide with asteroids as well. I haven't noticed the gas giant damage even when close...is it automatic or random?

9 Replies 41,369 Views

I have read about the effects of various planets and supposedly asteroid belts and gas giants can cause damage to your ships. In dozens of hours iof play it has never happened to me. I have never had a ship damaged in an asteroid belt or at a gas giant. Seems to defeat the purpose of the effect if it never happens. Am I missing something?

I think its more people confused about the right to free speech doesn't supercede the rights of the person's home/business you are speaking in. It's their forum and their rules they owe you no explanations and if they give them its a courtesy, not an obligation.

I've found if you load your trade ships with wenches, rum, peg legs and eye patches that the pirate fleets will always go after them. Might try researching those techs to distract them ;)

To download mods, go to the main Sins page and selet "downloads". Pick the mods you want and then follow the directions with each mod to install them as they may vary some and not all work with every version and expansion. Once your mods are properly in place, go to "Options" at the starting menu screen of the game and enable the mod you wish to play.

The census actually gets a lot of: "Race...Alien/Extraterrestrial" responses...which requires a follow up phone call and a visit if not answered to verify. So far, no confirmed aliens/extraterrestrials.
Thanks for the writeup of the census, Sin-Imperium. Very Enlightening. I will say that in 2000 I got the long form. This year the short form. 2000 was the first time I got the long form. I did fill it out both times, but like in 2000, I do not think they will like all my answers.
YW. Which Sins is hardcoded to dump when it reaches that point.
I had started and run the game in debug for some time and noticed a list of texture/mesh errors that came with th

I think the sporadic stuttering audio is becasue when the cpu is fully occupied, audio gets a lower priority than graphics and the like--so it chops when your processor is taxed. The audio files aren't the big issue but I do optimize files in flash movies and it saves quite a bit of work for the viewer on large projects. I think we have ogg vorbis files here which are lossless, hq audio. I haven't looked at the parameters and all but some games specify file types and
